Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

I believe it was in the ABS system somewhere, but honestly I was just so excited that they found something to fix rather than replace I didn't question them....

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

I don't see them not staying it business. I can't be alone in my frustration with the TSC and EV's seemed to not be hurting in terms of demand for their services. As warranties expire, and TSC's proclivity to just replace things until they find the problem costs owners ridiculous money and...

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

I believe it was $1250 per brick plus $200 installation, plus $200 for the initial diagnosis.

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

So, lest you all think I gave up on my Tesla....I wound up trailering my car to Sacramento and took it to EV's Republic. Those guys are awesome. They traced the neutral problem to a faulty $32 relay. After testing the battery they determined that two cells were defective and replaced the cells...

Car put itself in neutral in traffic jam

I've been having this problem for almost two years and have posted it on this Forum. 5 trips to the Service Center have not been able to solve it as the car doesn't log any specific fault codes. It wasn't a big deal when the car would shift back into Drive, but the problem evolved to where it...

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

I think that you're drunk on the Tesla cool aid, MP3Mike. I mean, the software was good enough for the car to drive 143K miles and it identified a lot of batteries that needed to be replaced (not mine, luckily, but lots of others), and then Tesla conveniently tweeks it to identify more batteries...

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

So I've consulted with several third party Tesla repair shops and think I'll abandon Tesla Service Centers. The general opinion is that my drive motor probably isn't faulty and that the neutral problem is caused by a bad ground somewhere. The amazing thing is that several of the 3rd party guys...

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

So I've been disowned by the Service Center! They don't return calls or answer Emails. Neutral problem still exists and now the car will only charge to 90 miles. I finally understand why that guy blew up his Tesla!

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

OK, my saga continues. So the car was fine for a month or so after they cleaned the Connector, but then started jumping into neutral by itself again. It always went back into drive this time, so not a huge inconvenience. I took it back to the Service Center--they had it for over two weeks and...

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

Oh. and it cost way less to repair than the 2400 the Service Center wanted to charge the first time!

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

Hopefully the final update to this thread. The car shifted into neutral again and this time never fixed itself. It wouldn't turn off, go into park/drive/reverse, or reset with any of the hard reset options. I had it towed to the Service Center--this time, because the car was still broken, they...

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

I guess I'll start with the negative battery terminal! At least I know where it is!

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

Thank you, demundus. I'll try cleaning and tightening the negative terminal--I assume that you're talking about the 12V battery?

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

Thank you--I'll clean all of the connectors in the braking system. EV_Builder--which module and where is the "stalk." Should I try cleaning/reseating the connectors there as well?

Model S jumps into Neutral while driving

No--I decided to bring the car home and take a look at all of the brakes myself. I haven't gotten around to it yet and the car hasn't misbehaved again (yet). I did order a used Parking Brake Control module and installed it (very easy, by the way), but the car didn't like the used module at all...
