That is not true in my experience. If you press the accelerator even a little bit before the 1/2 delay is up, you get no nag.

I have to agree with OP on this one. I found myself deliberately creeping before the light turned green just to avoid the warning chime, so I just turned it off because that's a bad habit. I'd be happy even with 1 second which if I'm watching the light I can easily beat. Even 2 seconds would...

I'd wait and replace it after you get a crack in it. It's almost assured that if you replace it just because it isn't perfect, the replacement will get a crack in it a couple months later ;)
