Why do V4 SC and Chargepoint NACS plugs have these odd gaps?

I believe you are correct. Isolation is maintained by the clearance (the shortest distance through the air) and creepage (the shortest distance along the surface). There are standards that specify these minimums. The 1000V connector has more creepage than the 500V. These minimums are affected by...

Polestar and Rivian urge more drastic climate action

I was skeptical of the coal powered EV producing less CO2 than gas powered equivalents. Then I ran the calculations for myself. Summary of CO2 emissions per 100km (kg) Tesla Model 3 Ontario electricity mix 0.9 Tesla Model 3 Natural Gas 8.8 Tesla Model 3 Coal...

Canadian Superchargers now charge per kWh

I checked my Supercharger invoices for the past year. $212.27 for 480kWh $0.45/kWh 480kWh came from the Tesla app. $212.27 from the invoices. Just a little less than the current $0.48 being charged in southern Ontario.

Supercharger - Ottawa, ON - Iris rd

This location has 4 ChargePoint DCFCs used for delivery EVs all last winter. It is now open to the public. I charged there last night using a CCS adapter. Free charging, for now at least.

Reuters confirms that Cdn MY RWD is MIC

All things being equal most of us would buy a domestic built car. But all things are not equal. And things are changing fast. Chinese quality is there and the battery costs are coming down fast. I fear legacy auto manufacturers will fall behind just like the Japanese in the seventies and later...

Tesla Model 3 driven by the wrong owner

After a lifetime of driving I have three wrong car examples. Once we had a rental. My wife and I hopped into an unlocked car. Correct model and color. It just didn’t feel right. After perhaps 20 seconds we realized it was not our car. My wife and I both had Mazdas. I was driving mine but had...

14-50 outlet in 100 amp panel

I’m in Ontario with a similar setup. 100A panel with external fusing. (80 years old) The electrician and subsequent inspector required that I download the previous 12 months of hourly usage for review. In the end I replaced the breaker with 40A and labelled it “40A breaker, 32A maximum”...

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

I can see how Superchargers in a downtown core would be hard to build. Access to power and expensive real estate would be required. In the case of Gatineau, the location is on the outskirts of town and just off the Autoroute 50. Ideal to top up for the return trip to Montreal.

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

For what it’s worth Tesla accidentally revealed “coming soon” Supercharger locations last October. It included 1248 Boulevard la Vérendrye E in Gatineau. Good for the Gatineau-Montreal drivers.

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

ONRoute appears to have partnered with the Ivy Charging Network so I can’t imagine Tesla getting into those locations. Would be nice though.

    Tesla vs A2Z CCS adaptes

Both the A2Z and Tesla adapters are passive. It cannot be locked out by Tesla. I have an A2Z. I’ve only tested it twice. In both cases I got approx. 35kW on a 50kW charger. 50% SOC and no preconditioning with temperature below freezing. What I did learn was how happy I am to have access to...

    Supercharger - Madoc, ON

I finally got a chance to use Madoc this afternoon and it was busy. 3 Teslas and 2 ICE-holes. This may be an ongoing problem given the lack of parking for the gas station and Subway. Complaints aside, it is a great addition to the SC network for me.

Thoughts on CCS DC Fast Charging?

Good info. I just purchased a CCS adapter today in anticipation of a road trip later in the year. Gaspé, Quebec and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia do not have Supercharger coverage.

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

Any measurement device that is used in a financial transaction requires approval from Measurement Canada. Example - the scale at your butcher. Each measurement device will have to meet the requirements for that category of product. EV charging is a new category. So first Measurement Canada had...

Protecting Charge Cable When Charging Outside

My garage has a bottom tube seal as well. I put a dowel the same diameter as the charger cable inside the tube. It’s about one foot narrower than the door. The charger cable is placed under this one foot section. Perfect. No pinching at all.
