Retrofitting glove box USB to early 2021

1565714-00-A I actually ended up buying a glove box with it attached, it worked perfect. No, it's not a standard USB-A end. It looked proprietary.

I’ve also moved my antenna to the spot suggested by @dude7 The reception on my spot kept going out at random places when I removed the housing. Maybe the plastic housing helps prevent interference. Or maybe the magnet helps to amplify the signal or something.

@JayPaul @dude7 Heres the pictures. I removed the magnetic mount and stuck it to the metal using Velcro strips (all I had, I would suggest double sided tape). You want the antenna to be as far forward on the metal tab and as far to the FM antenna to clear the mounting hole. That way, the panel...

Yes, I did it in the night, so it’s not very good. I will try to redo it with double sided tape this evening and take pictures.

So just an update. It looks like the electrical tape causes the antenna to slip around more, which causes it to move into a position of cutouts. I will probably remove the magnet plate and just double side tape it down. Just make sure the antenna is as far forward on the glass as you can get for...

See my last post. I removed the housing with 4 screws. It doesn’t touch the glass or degrade signal (it probably improves it a little)

Wow. That was really easy. On the NGVA3, there’s 4 screws under the label. Take off the screws and it comes apart. I used electrical tape to hold the antenna to the magnetic mount. Shaves off a good few millimeter.

Yes, I think if someone finds an antenna just a couple millimeters thinner with good reception, it will be the perfect place for an antenna. Otherwise, I might try to remove the plastic housing to see if reception is degraded.

Okay I just got done with a 5 hour trip. Zero cut outs. I’m going to look for a thinner profile antenna. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know.

It fits, it’s just very snug. But I did think about that too.

Another update: it works fine, so it took about 3 hours to activate. Still getting great reception.

Went for a 20 minute drive. No cut outs except when I went through a small tunnel. But it doesn’t seem to activate, I’m just stuck on the Preview channel. @dude7 did you have the same issue?

This spot just barely fit with the panel but reception seems fine. @JayPaul do you want to try?

Has anyone tried placing it in this spot right below the glass/FM antenna spot?

Thank you. I don't know much about 3D printing, but my local library can print using PLA and nGen. Would either of these be a good alternative?
