Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

Actually it's really easy - the 295/25R19 is so short that it makes it easier than you would think. On the 19x10 ET35 it will fit but it's really close to the upright - with a few mm of spacer (for peace of mind) it's no problem.

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

Hey everyone - it's been a bit - this year has obviously been a little crazy for everyone, but I did install a few more pieces of the MPP suspension offerings (all rear arms now replaced in the back, along with the front lower bushing), and I recently took my car to NCM Motorsports Park to try...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

I'm using them because they are cheap and available off-the-shelf, and I don't think weight matters much on a 4000lb car with plenty of power. If it was a Miata I'd definitely be looking for lighter wheels. This year I'm going wider so I may end up going with something more-custom, but we...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

Ohhhhh, awesome, thanks! I'm looking forward to it, the lift is lonely and this post needs some updates. :-)

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

The car is classed in ASP, although a lot of the MPP upgrades use sphericals which as noted in this thread somewhere earlier are not allowed in *SP, which is asinine, but that's the SCCA for you. The car is legal in SM as well, and there is also a new EV class that's basically intended to allow...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

Normally yes, it would be effective 1/1/2021, but I believe it's actually effective immediately, based on the language: The reference to 3.2 is the key, as it is the provision for immediate change, and includes the language regarding OTA updates:

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

That's why I call it lazy, they just don't want to deal with OTA updates (which is their main concern, not current performance). All manufacturers will be doing it in a few years, so in typical SCCA fashion they just are sticking their heads in the sand for now while they figure out a...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

That's my only thought as well - I'd be really surprised if they changed the seat but it's possible. Let me know if you get it figured out, I don't know what to say about that one. It looks like this bar, and there's a lot of clearance on mine, but I did play around with vertical and fore-aft...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

Correction, now in SS. I think it's a mistake - I think SS for Pros makes total sense, but SS for tours is just a lazy response.

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

Haha thanks! It was fun running with the SS 1LE - he's a great driver but I stayed ahead of him until the final session where he nipped me by 0.1s. I've actually been fairly impressed with the street/track pads from UPP. I normally only brake at 8 or 9/10 and roll speed into the corner, but...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

I've done both actually, but what I found works well is keep it on 240V between sessions and then head over to the supercharger at lunch - the supercharger is only 15min away.

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

I guess you are correct! Honestly, I didn't even realize sphericals were out in SP, which goes back to the convoluted rules structure where you can do full driveline, interior, body, etc swaps if something is on the same line, but you better not start replacing control arms. I've run with the...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

If you are worried, the car is SM legal as well, I wrote a clarification letter on that too but it actually was already referenced in the rules. :-) Which sphericals are you using?

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

I actually wrote the letter that requested classing. :) I think the Tesla actually has a pretty good chance in ASP - it would be an interesting build. I considered moving that way but ultimately there are things I want to do for Optima that don't align with the SCCA, and I don't think I want...

Tesla Model 3 DM Performance - Autocross/Time Trial Build for USCA (Optima)

And now begins the off-season... I have some tentative plans for next year, but I'll be sure to post as I make changes - stay tuned! For anyone interested AutoX and Track did a nice write-up on my experience from the season - check it out! Future of Motorsports? Tesla Model 3 Domination —...
