This happened to me. Driving along on autopilot, then the tesla logo and a black screen reboot.

Was the fix to replace the halfshaft?

Tesla just updated their quote. $981. Failed under warranty, they couldn’t diagnose. Now I’m out of warranty and they are happy to fix for almost $1000

Yeah it’s the part that goes into the drive unit. They said not covered due to me being over 50K miles. Even though the problem was unresolved since before the warranty expired.

The noise comes from the inner CV moving in and out.

Just got off the phone with Tesla. Replacement of the entire halfshaft including tax & labor (no diagnosis fees) is $282.16. So not as bad as I was imagining. I’m in California for reference.

SR model doesn’t have a front drive unit. I have both a SR and a performance.

I lifted my car up today and when I push/pull the front halfshaft (axle) it makes the clunk sound! The sound comes from where it meets up with the motor. I’ve had this issue since 40K miles, Tesla couldn’t figure it out and my warranty has since expired. So pissed.

Mine didn’t erase anything, but now it won’t let me play anything on tidal. I can browse, just won’t play. Says my premium connectivity is expired. Mine doesn’t expire till March 2023. My Apple Music works.

Mine is MUCH worse in the cold below 60. In the summer the sound went away. I’ve replaced the upper and lower control arms, swatbar endlink, and compression arm. I’m on MPP coils and everything has been checked for torque. Tesla had it for two days and couldn’t figure it out. It literally sounds...

Update, I upgraded to MPP FUCAs. Sound is still there. So far I’ve replaced the swaybar end link and the FUCA. Next will be the compression rod. Then the last part will be the lower control arm.

We are all getting the same answer. Something is clearly defective, but instead of replacing parts to isolate the issue they just torque bolts and visually check. I ordered FUCAs from MPP so I’m going to start replacing parts top down until I find the culprit.
