Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

Joe, I need to do more testing to validate. Sound is tricky to measure accurately. I have a 2 mile stretch of concrete highway that I use for testing, so it is quite a bit louder than smooth asphalt. I agree with you that it should help since it is tight fitting and has a layer of foam in it...

    Driver's Profiles -- See What's Saved?

I read the following in the manual See What's Saved To see what settings are associated with a driver profile, touch the driver profile icon on the top of the touchscreen. Then touch See what’s saved. A popup window lists all the settings that are saved to driver profiles. But I can't seem...

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

I did a test with a sound meter with seats up and seats down and didn't find a measurable difference in sound. I was surprised. Granted I did have a moving blanket and my bike in the back. The Maxpider 3D trunk mat didn't make a difference either.

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

hmm interesting...perhaps just cover a home speaker with each of the materials and test the dB on each. I use dB meter on my iPhone...they have a free version. The model X has thick foam on the floor.

Hey Tesla, where's my $1000 worth of white paint?

Hmm, didn't know the Valiant had a frunk ;-). Take a look under a Porsche frunk and tell me what you see :-)

Hey Tesla, where's my $1000 worth of white paint?

Stop feeding the FUDs. Someone that doesn't own the car is going to see your pics and think that's what it looks like when you open the hood. This area is only ever typically seen by service people after disassembly of the frunk area.

110 W vs Wall Connector or Nema 15

Suggest you re-read first page of the wall connector link you posted for a good 'brake down' :) with regards to maximum amps for a mid range battery.
  10. M

110 W vs Wall Connector or Nema 15

I think the mid range is limited to 32amps of charging, so a wall connector won't get you any more.

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

Hey Brad, how are the door seals after living with them for a few weeks? Any water issues after the rains? How about creaking or squeaking? I bought the seals and am going to give it a shot. Someone else (M3 2018?) was going to take some sound measurements before and after....wondering if...

    Annoying little issues

Depends what you are used to I guess. I love them. Could never get used to Audi's. Model 3 seems to be identical to BMW as far as I recall.
  13. M

110 W vs Wall Connector or Nema 15

See the wall connector installation manual appendix for info on multiple HPWC load sharing. Dual charge ports on the car would never happen...that's where the subwoofer goes :-)

110 W vs Wall Connector or Nema 15

Get the Tesla wall charger with long cord so you can share between cars. You can also wire another Tesla Wall connector to your existing one if you want in the future and they talk to each other and share the power.

Performance not getting 310 miles promised

No I'm quite certain performance was never tested as the EPA doesn't require it for model variations that account for less than 35% of total volume. EPA allows the rating on the car tested to be applied to the untested model variations. Car manufacturers don't give the government any more...
  16. M

Performance not getting 310 miles promised

Yes, that was my point, performance wasn't separately rated by the EPA nor range estimated by Tesla aside from giving it the same range as the other models.

The range is 310 for all the Model 3s so what is separate?

Performance not getting 310 miles promised

    1 PSI low? Irrelevant.
  20. M

What Wh/mi are you getting with AWD and P cars?

Factory recommendation is 42 PSI, so he's not that low. I run 40 PSI in mine. Sure if you're trying to hypermile your range you can gain a small amount by increasing it, but at the cost of increased tire harshness, noise and perhaps longevity. I'm guessing the EPA used 42 in their range...

What Wh/mi are you getting with AWD and P cars?

I think you are over analyzing....ICE cars less efficient in the city due to stop and go requiring energy to get up to speed. EV's have regen that is used in the city which makes up for that.

    Wheel Brush Recommendations

Timely topic. I was thinking of buying this one. It's a sponsored video, but I've watched a lot of his videos and I trust him. Anyone have this?

3D Maxpider Kagu Mats for Model 3

Just a suggestion. These are being shipped with signature required, so if you won't be there to receive them, you can sign up with UPS and authorize them to leave them on your doorstep.
  24. M

What Wh/mi are you getting with AWD and P cars?

This is actually a good result compared with EPA estimates for even a non-performance model 3. Remember this is unlike an ICE vehicle....efficiency happens in city driving not highway.
  25. M

110 W vs Wall Connector or Nema 15

120v outlet will get you approx 4 miles per hour of charge. 40amps from a wall connector will give you about 37. So it depends on what your needs are. But note that 120v is less efficient so it will cost you about 20% more for the same charge.

Walk away Lock does not involve walking away...

Can't believe that it is based on distance as when I exit the car in my garage it locks before I leave the garage. Less than 10 feet away.

    A cautionary autopilot video

The technology seems to have real difficulty with stationary objects. There have been reports of AEB not working for a stationary car for example. Oncoming headlights are also a big issue. Expectations are way too high in my opinion for what this technology can do. Regarding the sonic...

Door Panel Rattles, Need help / Suggestions.

Ah ok, so Tesla sent to bodyshop themselves. Yes I would go back to Tesla SC. Rattles are definitely not normal. I wouldn't think there is anything wrong with the panel itself so I wouldn't go to that expense of buying one yourself but rather something behind it in the wrong position or...

Door Panel Rattles, Need help / Suggestions.

Sounds like a body shop issue if the rattles didn't start until they disassembled. Did you try taking it back to them? I don't believe lemon law applies to rattles.

    A cautionary autopilot video

Agree pedestrian was an idiot, but the title of this thread implies AP should detect this which is not the case.
  38. M

Performance not getting 310 miles promised

EPA doesn't test the performance model. Model variations that are less than 30% of total vehicle volume are not separately tested.
  39. M

    A cautionary autopilot video

I'm amazed that people are buying this car expecting full self driving capability. This is dangerous and Tesla needs to do a better job of educating buyers since we know that most will never read the manual. There was another post where someone was surprised the car didn't stop for a red light.

PSA: Homelink auto open left our garage open overnight

Thanks for the heads up. I think the auto open and close works great on a day to day basis, but I do eye ball it in my rear view mirror to be sure it is closing.

    Wind Noise

I'm tempted to try to fix my mirror panels myself. Has anyone tried epoxy or double sided tape? Problem is my mirror panels don't stick out much so I don't have room to work without pulling them out further which I don't want to do. Or for anyone that has taken their car to the Costa Mesa, CA...

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

On the quest for noise reduction I noticed the substantial foam material underneath the trunk carpet of a Model X. It looks like seat foam and is perhaps an inch or so thick and appears to be thermomolded to the shape of the trunk. I know that the 3 is built to a price point, but a few bucks...

Tesla Version of Michelin 4s different from the others?

@Mal and @TEG you guys might be right about the tire fitment. I just looked at a pic of mine from a distance and couldn't see the lip at all, but looking at your pics it seems it is there but as you say, a tighter fitment.

    Charging After Power Failure

The charger will restart after the power failure when power resumes and it is even smart enough to start randomly over a 3 minute period so that every Tesla charger in your neighborhood going on at once doesn't overload your local transformer. Edit: this applies to the Tesla wall connector, not...

Calling all former M, AMG and RS Drivers

Not for me, but more and more mods will be coming if you want to make your Model 3 stand out. One reason I passed on the BMW M4 for my previous car was I felt it had left it's German roots of design subtlety and gone over the top with boy racerish styling...not ugly by any means just not for...

Calling all former M, AMG and RS Drivers

I've had 3 ///M cars and most recently an Audi S4 among 6 other BMWs. Everyone else pretty much sums up what I feel as well...best car I have ever owned. What you will miss: At least in California, the car is VERY common. Performance model looks very similar to base model, unlike current...
