    HUD ("Heads Up Display") Discussion

Elon dodged answering the question. He does not want to reveal the feature this early. I believe HUD or something similar will be available as a paid option. The same feature will be available in X and S before Model 3 arrives.

I have to reboot nearly every time I want to listen to a podcast... otherwise I get a Loading Error.

Steering rack click when reversing or inching over speedbumps....

I had something like this happen on my car. I did not feel it in the steering wheel, but heard a click. Issue was happening when driving slowly in near full lock. Service center replaced some bolts with the updated shorter version, which solved the issue. It does not sound like your exact issue...

Tesla, please enable pay-per-use supercharging for original 40/60kWh cars

Pay-per-use was not an option at the time. The $2000 extra that people paid for unlimited charging also can't be directly compared to the pay-per-use charging, especially if it would not include the 400kWh yearly credit. I agree that some smaller fee to "activate" the hardware would make sense...

Tesla, please enable pay-per-use supercharging for original 40/60kWh cars

There is no technical limitation of supercharging 40kWh cars. The 60kWh battery would just stop charging at 40kWh.

Tesla, please enable pay-per-use supercharging for original 40/60kWh cars

If the owner has not yet enabled unlimited charging already (3 years later), they are very unlikely to pay $2500, or even $1900 to enable it. They do not need unlimited supercharging. However, they would benefit from occasional charging when in a pinch or on a very rare trip. If the 40 can't...

Tesla, please enable pay-per-use supercharging for original 40/60kWh cars

Original 60kWh buyers were given an option to purchase unlimited supercharging for $2,000, while 40kWh were not given the option at all. All of the cars that did not purchase supercharging actually have the necessary hardware. Now that pay-per-use is implemented, it would be a great gift for the...

Using TM-Spy to see Model S data.

I made a dongle myself, but it does not seem to work with TM-Spy. I am not sure if it is the app, my bluetooth adapter, or the cable. I am using ScanTool OBDLink LX.

Cost of Tesla Solar Roof Tiles

It would be really good if the Tesla roof maximized output during partial shade. This can be achieved using microinverters with conventional panels, but I don't see how that would work with the tiles.

Micro SD Card for DR650GW-2CH Dashcam

By the way, the BlackVue cameras have a firmware design flaw that makes them run hotter with faster cards. This makes the faster cards fail even quicker than they are designed for. I would not use any cards with write speeds greater than 25MB/s. BlackVue 550 also run much hotter than 650.

    Firmware 8.0

Not when you have a 80-ft long driveway you have to back out on. The GPS location is messed up until the next time that the car sleeps or is rebooted.

    Firmware 8.0

8.0 still has not fixed the offset-GPS bug while reversing that plagues all older non-AP cars! It has now been broken for 8 months. Try it yourself... put the GPS on top panel and camera on the bottom panel. Zoom in the map on the car position as much as possible. Drive a bit in reverse and see...

Cost of Tesla Solar Roof Tiles

The savings vary greatly depending on the cost of electricity in your region and your consumption. Here is my wild guess for a 2500 sqft roof: Assumptions: 2000 sqft single story 3br house, Midwest, natural gas air and water heaters. Roof Assumption:10kW solar roof Cost of shingle roof (very...

Who plans on getting a true, base $35k Model 3?

Kwh monitoring is turning me into a pussyfoot

I am obsessed, but still punch it on on-ramps whenever possible. My 40k mile average is only 273Wh/mi! The key is staying close to the speed limit on the highway. I rarely get under 300 in the winter though.

    Firmware 7.1

It turns out that the Gyro was disabled on my car to "fix" the issue instead of actually fixing anything; however, the service center has reproduced reverse GPS issue on their loaners so the ticket will definitely get some attention from development.

    Interesting finding about Range Mode

This is a big disappointment for me. I have had Range Mode enabled since delivery 3 years ago. I had no idea it affected battery temperature management at the high end. I am now at almost 40,000 miles and the degradation appears to be around 6%. I really wish Tesla documented their features...

    Firmware 7.1

The orientation and position should rely on not only GPS coordinates, but also wheel/ motor speed sensors and steering wheel orientation to provide accurate output. GPS history is not needed at all.

Tesla confirms Model 3 will have less than 60kWh battery option

My guess is that it will be just under 60kWh. It will have more reserves at both ends as general public will be less tolerant of degradation and running out of juice at 0mi. 215mi * 250Wh/mi / 90% usable = 59.7 kWh
