Any progress from Tesla on the Right to Repair front?

Oh well, the 2020 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will be electrified so Bavaria's win is Tesla's loss. I'm sure it's going to cost less to purchase a BMW and maintain it without the troublesome turbocharged engines. :) There's also the 2021 electric Infinity that maybe the most reliable of the bunch...

    Cost Maintenance Plan and ESA?

Also whether Tesla is opening the Right to Repair... please?

Two days with Model 3 impressions/review- This is not a mini model S

Sounds like assembly-wise, they really made the M3 simpler. Good to know there's quality put to them. OP, are you a non-employee?

Poll - how long you plan on keeping you Model 3?

I would love for that to happen but with no Right To Repair or at least assurances that repair costs post warranty will not be Model S or X-insane, it seems Tesla just wants to keep selling new vehicles to new customers (and customers who keep trading up every few years) and can't be bothered...

Poll - how long you plan on keeping you Model 3?

If Tesla really opens the Right to Repair, which is probably going to be a must before I commit to a purchase and the wording of the ESA so that there's about the same number of exclusions as in the S and X, I'll keep the car for as long as the repairs don't destroy my finances. Hopefully...

    Recommended annual service

How many S owners have done like you? Most would toss the car before the four years are up. Tesla owe you for your support. For M3's, I am almost certain ESA wil be rejected in all but the most optioned ones. Tesla will not be able to afford repairing these in large volumes.
  7. I

    Recommended annual service

I am not an owner like yourself but I understand there is no need to have your S serviced to keep your original four year warranty intact. Servicing is only required for those who plan to purchase the ESA and keep the car for at least seven years ( maybe sell a lemon on the eight while it is...
  8. I

    Recommended annual service

The lack of Right to Repair is real. Post warranty or ESA, Tesla will have owners by their b@lls or female equivalent for many servicing and even parts. We can't even pick major parts up from the scrap yard and install them as I believe the car will reject them without a authorization from...

How many of you are opting for SR?

Hmmm. LR might be the ticket to a higher resale value compared to other BEVs even past eight years if the battery and DU hold up. :) Not having to charge and pay more at public charging stations is heaven sent especially during the cold winter when top ups among BEV owners are going to be more...

Any progress from Tesla on the Right to Repair front?

^ Hey you actually made the last post on that insideevs article :) Tesla President of Sales and Service Says Program To Allow Owners To Perform Own Repairs Is "In The Works"

If the M3 was an ICE vehicle how would it compare?

If the M3 was an ICEV, then maintenance and repair post warranty/ESA will be wonderful. If our drive unit or battery fails, we can go to the scrap yard and get these major components at a significant discount. But then again, there is no word of the Right to Repair and these components are not...

Any progress from Tesla on the Right to Repair front?

Nine months have gone by without any additional word it seems after googling info within the past month. I'm probably part of the minority here but I'm most likely not going to order a Tesla until we get a firm commitment from Tesla that it will share repair instructions and open up the tools...

Tesla Model 3 Battery Warranty Includes 70% Retention Guarantee

Thanks guys. Maybe I can opt for the SR version + AWD so I don't overspend on the TM3. :)
  14. I

    No lease for M3?

Yeah 70% from my earlier post is too ridiculous ( wrong arithmetic) and it would definitely tip the scale over to financing. Maintenancece is $6k over the eight years, ESA is $4k so in year 8, leasing was overall only 20-25% (including higher borrowing cost for leasing). Then on year 9 all...
  15. I

    No lease for M3?

Depreciation is highest in the earliest years so in year 4, it would be at most 15% of MSRP if you left 55% as residual at the end of year 3. 70% value gone is quite reasonable. I would be a taker if the seller purchased ESA and I add that on top of $20k ( $65k x 0.3)
  16. I

    No lease for M3?

I think if you do two four-year leases, it will be almost a wash because after year 4 without factoring an ESA purchase, no way is the cost of ownership going to be pure maintenance on a Tesla. Even a stalwart Canadian has had warranty repair work already on the DU and a few other issues on a...

Tesla Model 3 Battery Warranty Includes 70% Retention Guarantee

Battery chemistry is not going to be the same, or will it? So 365 days x eight years x 100 miles = 292,000 miles covered so your 100,000 mile example doesn't cover the extreme cases like for Uber drivers. If we are not allowed to charge to 100%,then 95% it is. I would rather have 75% at the...
  18. I

Tesla Model 3 Battery Warranty Includes 70% Retention Guarantee

How about the lack of Right to Repair where we can't be looking for major electric component like battery and DU in the scrap yards because the will be rejected? With ICEV, problem with at transmission, just swap with a better one in the junk yard. :) It's not like Tesla is accountable for work...

    No lease for M3?

Do you guys think it's cheaper to lease two Tesla vehicles over an eight year period or finance/cash purchase one and keep it for life? I'm still surprised Tesla hasn't provided any updates on opening up the Right to Repair. So for now, any battery or DU replacement post warranty will have to...

Tesla Model 3 Battery Warranty Includes 70% Retention Guarantee For up to 100,000 miles on the standard battery and up to 120,000 miles on the long-range battery. The battery retention portion of the warranty differs from that of the Model S and X. Neither of those Tesla carry a retention...

    What Driver Profiles can be set w/ FOB's(I don't own a S or X but interested in a 3)

If you guys/gals have two FOBS, each of which is linked to two distinct driver profiles, and have every setting possible tied to the two profiles (steering wheel, side mirrors and seats positions, and other settings -- SEE BELOW), will the car adjust everything automatically as you use the...

Range on Highway for Model 3

Good to know that for a supposed freeway (little traffic) driving of 60-70 miles one way, the drop isn't going to be as high as 40% as long as the following measures are performed: pre-heating while plugged in turn heated seats up before heating cabin with HVAC Range something turned ON (less...

Range on Highway for Model 3

Too bad not a lot of M3 drivers out east where climate is turning colder. I guess I just approximate 40% drop in range during the coldest in winter.
  26. I

    M3 AP cameras in snow

Would love to know what ranges people are going to get in the winter. So the M3 is more efficient in the city than in the highway because of the permanent magnet motor? That winter range will be a deciding factor whether to go LR or cheapen out and go with a SR.
  27. I

    Backup camera quality

On a similar note, will the M3 come with a dashcam-like front facing camera to record videos and save them on impact?

Thoughts on EAP for the 3

Any other ACC-equipped auto as capable as Tesla's below $50k USD? Damn PUP is the only option that I can skip but there will be three drivers lol.
  29. I

    Why I'm buying a Tesla

Cool to have batteries with no metal content and just use plain water.
  30. I

Thoughts on EAP for the 3

Do we have to press resume ( no clue where that button will be) or step on the accelerator pedal or will the M3 follow the car in front on its own?
  31. I

    No Autopilot, No cruise control?

Would that be for the S and X?
  32. I

    No Autopilot, No cruise control?

Yeah, that's what I want to do... wait for Tesla to offer TACC ala carte for $2k. It's bound to happen because the hardware is already there and Tesla might as well monetize it eventually. I feel the $5k for EAP is too much if only because I don't need the highway exit and lane assists. I...
  33. I

    No Autopilot, No cruise control?

What about decelerating with the stalk? Is it very responsive? To save on $5k EAP, I will be the car's autopilot. :)
  34. I

What portion of your M3 will you clear-bra or wrap for paint protection?

Isn't the hood going to be made of aluminum? If that's the case, I wouldn't bother as it and the bumper won't be rusting anyway. Maybe the front portion of the ceiling and the A pillars will do.

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

We can't buy ESA on a CPO Tesla, or can we?
  36. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

Well, my wife drives around 130 miles to work once a week so I know what the lower bound range I will require before committing to a BEV. No point for me to exclude those already known work related trips (her drive is not going away) in my purchase decision just to save on shorter trips. It's...

Tesla Model 3 Non-Employee Deliveries To Start Next Week - True or False? :)

  38. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

A big enough battery more or less negates the requirement for quicker charging. Styling is superficial but helps. Enough range, minimal degradation and reliable enough in all other aspects will protect some resale value.
  39. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

The enabler of smartphone success is faster data speed. The enabler for BEV will be reasonable driving range and cheap charging but the latter isn't happening. Many charging stations charge a lot more for convenience so battery size is looking more key. Anything beyond is good but unnecessary...
  40. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

That has been my strategy except for the love part. It has been a successful strategy with Honda's and hopefully a Toyota and a Tesla.
  41. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

It will depend on competing BEVs. Even if Tesla outdates the present cars, if they are reliable and better spec'd than other new BEVs, there will still be decent demand that will put a floor on resale values.
  42. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

Even if I don't plan on selling a brand new M3, knowing does help if I am in the market for another (used one) five years from now.
  43. I

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

Yes, March 31st for 2019 delivery in Canada. :) Still want to read up on initial quality though.

With a mere 5% battery degradation, could it be possible that the buffer is released over time?

Thanks for sharing some helpful information. I am not well versed in industry terminology and I must have been referring to the combination of anti-bricking reserve as well as the buffer from the software locked packs, but for the M3, the latter is nonexistent. So maybe like the Germans who'd...

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

I understand over in the States, you will have the $7,500 federal tax credit and various state incentives. In my Canadian province, Ontario, for currently we have a $14k CAD after tax incentive So once these incentives are gone, expect any BEV, especially a TM3 with good demand, to hold its...

With a mere 5% battery degradation, could it be possible that the buffer is released over time?

^ That survey doesn't put the hypothesis in hot water though. Just because there's little degradation, it doesn't prove there's no trickery involved. Can Tesla / Panasonic battery packs be reversed re-engineered? It's almost like VW with dieselgate where all other German competitors are...
  48. I

With a mere 5% battery degradation, could it be possible that the buffer is released over time?

Well, that degradation may be evident well past the first eight years. The goal for Tesla is to present itself in the best possible light today because its stock price is doing great and it may need to raise more funding in the near future. For example, say people report 5% battery...
