    Reuters: 90% Tesla defects

This may be redundant. It's easier/cheaper to build them right than to fix them. I think Tesla is gunning for production numbers instead of quality because the street uses cars produced as the key metric. Tesla cars riddled with defects straight off assembly line, former workers say, in push...

With a mere 5% battery degradation, could it be possible that the buffer is released over time?

It's not cheating in my books. It's being creative. The important thing to the owner is the actual driving range and if it stays to the initial range, so much the better, no matter what goes behind in the background. I just stumbled upon this article. How does the TMS actually prevent all of...

With a mere 5% battery degradation, could it be possible that the buffer is released over time?

Is it really possible to have that small a battery degradation over four/five years? Doesn't that kinda defy physics/chemistry? Perhaps Tesla slowly releases the capacity buffer say from 20% down to 15 then to 10%? Thoughts? It might as well supply batteries to competitors once it gets its...

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

I had ACC but Toyota put a lag in the programming so much so that when someone cuts in front of me my speed will not drop immediately to keep the original distance. So when I shifted into the other lane with only 50 feet, it was more likely that the ACC had not kicked in yet. I can confirm it...

Is the Model 3 your most expensive car?

If that was the case, all the more reason not to bother with PUP then as I will only be missing the memory seats. :) Hopefully that'll be true since Tesla is not a volume and flexible producer unlike Toyota and Honda whose trims have significant nuances between Canadian and American models...

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

Good stuff. I doubt any manufacturer will explicitly state that their AEB will avoid collisions. The world is so full of litigious people / lawyers that manufacturers are going to play smart and not claim anything. How would a reduction of collision damage due to AEB be proven false in the...

Is the Model 3 your most expensive car?

I can guarantee you if you purchase the ESA before your first four years are up, that the M3 maintenance and repair will be cheaper for its first eight years. I'm not so sure from the ninth year and onward. If the Right to Repair is not offered, all bets are off because Tesla shop rates are on...
  9. I

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

Of course. There is no way for a system to guarantee that there will be no collision. If the car in front were to brake extremely hard especially after just cutting you off, a collision would be difficult to prevent. I was just defending my point, from experience on a RAV4H, that its AEB...

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

^ That's true. I'm not trying to be an a$$ for sure. I hope I didn't come across that way. Unless its for some acronym that could mean anything (I've done that where an acronym for something in audit could mean dozens of things related to project management), most things relating to car can...

    Let's talk financing rates

^ Only if interest rates are much higher than one's other outstanding loans (mortgage, lines of credit, credit card loans). Always better to have some flexibility. These are open loans typically that you can prepay anyway. As long as you one is disciplined enough, I don't see any risk.

Is the Model 3 your most expensive car?

I think it will be true for any BEV with similar features, at least in my case.
  14. I

Is the Model 3 your most expensive car?

Without PUP, steering wheel and seats are going to require manual adjustments. Those adjustments are probably going to be quicker to do than going through the touch screen interface. Of course if the car is in motion, then power adjusted seats are going to be better. Only the side mirrors are...

Is the Model 3 your most expensive car?

Most of used have been buying used at one time or another. I can't wait to buy used 200 mile BEVs in the not so distance future once the owners complain that there are no: heated steering wheel no heat pump no instrument cluster no mechanical door opener in the rear :)
  16. I

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

So how come with the Toyota's, it's possible to engage the AEB without getting into a collision? How does the car know when it's going to collide or not? When the car ahead brakes hard and then accelerates hard, are you suggesting the AEB will be so smart not to turn on? You have a point...

Windows lower down when open the door?

It's good because everything stays lubricated but not sure how long these things will last on a Tesla. It's not a Toyota in my view, lol.
  18. I

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

Of course I'd rather it trigger than not trigger at all because the AEB does prime the brake for harder braking. If I get rear ended first, I am considered not at fault. How can the AEB predict a collision so accurately when the car in front could start accelerating fast in the last second?

    Let's talk financing rates

Same here in Canada for regular bank auto loans. ==== I wonder if people are getting discounts off MSRP. There was talk about it before but EM seem to suggest the employees giving out the discount were let go.

Is the Model 3 your most expensive car?

I'm thinking of driving it forever (like my current 02 CIvic) and awaiting the update on the Right to Repair, which we never heard about again. Without that, I'm assuming the car will only last (before expensive repairs creep up that need to be fixed by Tesla or a few of its authorized repair...

Windows lower down when open the door?

I saw the latest video with the two gents with the front and passenger windows lower when the door was being opened. So these windows lower to clear the frame of the car?
  22. I

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

You've got a point but I think it is more because of legal ramifications-- they have to say it will not avoid accidents but only lessen impact. My RAVH's AEB has turned on a few times and I wasn't going to rear end the car in front of me.

    Premium Upgrades Package (PUP)

Thanks. I know. I just don't care much about the things you listed though my wife and daughter likes the glass roof but I'm don't work for Wall Street. I'm just an honest middle class guy.

Yeah, too bad the first can't substitute for the latter, haha.

    Premium Upgrades Package (PUP)

Model 3 specs So by not going with the PUP, we may not get heated seats (there's a possibility front seats get it but there is no confirmation from Tesla at the moment) we will not be getting 12-way power adjustable front seats (didn't realize passengers get 12-way too) we will not be getting...

Is AEB sufficient, even with standard cruise control?

I am thinking of skipping the $5k AEB that includes TACC and the OP's questions is spot on. If AEB worked with the regular cruise control, I wouldn't even consider TACC anymore. :) Good to know there is a difference and cruise control + AEB isn't equal to TACC. I'm still hoping Tesla...

After the reviews what are your favorite features and not....

I'm surprised many people like the minimalist interior design with the touch screen. I only like it because there are fewer things to potentially break. So what exactly can be controlled with a button or by manual adjustment? I can only think of the following but I'm sure I'm missing a few...

“Why I’m ditching my model 3 reservation” article

As long as I don't come out with a self-righteous and condescending tone such as yours, I'm sure a lot more people will respect me than they will respect you. Is that all you care about, tailpipe emissions? If you don't even drive a BEV right now, you are just being a hypocrite. So you will...

“Why I’m ditching my model 3 reservation” article

One of the German members here on TMC is right. It has everything to do with the unionized workforce (fewer work hours required for BEVs), high cost of batteries (subject to some technological advancement in the near future like solid state batteries, zinc air or others). If battery costs were...

“Why I’m ditching my model 3 reservation” article

What is 1% subsidy a year on an auto loan with a significant down payment along with a declining balance costing Tesla anyway? Maybe not in the first year or two but who knows when other BEVs start offering 0-1.99% financing over 84 months, lol. Sure, M3 will do fine without competition but...
  33. I

“Why I’m ditching my model 3 reservation” article

Financing and lease rates are important. We've grown accustomed to 0% to at most 1.99% interest rates that having to pay upwards of 4% may turn people off such as myself. I don't mind putting a significant down payment to get Tesla to approve me for a sweeter auto loan rate (maybe in the...

    Same motors? SR vs LR

My 11 Accord has traction/stability control and the front wheels can still spin when the ground is damp and I accelerate from a stand still, lol, and I don't even floor it. Is Tesla's traction/stability control leaps and bounds over a ten year old technology?

    Same motors? SR vs LR

I will be waiting for the AWD and LR version. I think those (some here believe it's the SCN and the tablet but not for me) are what set the M3 apart from other upcoming BEV sedans from the competition though I'm also open to other car makes with AWD/250 miles, even if they come in SUV format...

“Why I’m ditching my model 3 reservation” article

I don't hit the disagree button but all other high-end car makers are profitable so the lost of the credit will really hit Tesla the hardest. They can lose money on their BEV venture and it won't sink their ships. Losing the credit means lowering MSRP by at least a fraction of that credit if...

Is Telsa really that much ahead?

I think it's much simpler than that. The drive motor unit is likely cheaper to manufacture or outsourced compared to the engine + transmission. What's holding car makers back is the cost of the battery because these are mainly sourced from Japanese and Korean companies. Toyota does mention...

So now we judge people on whether they are driving BEVs or not? What has the world come to? I have more respect for hardworking and moral individuals driving ICEV than someone driving a $100-300k BEV that step on people.

Early adopters are also less practical and typically have much more money to burn. :) The reason why I want a BEV is not having to spend money on gasoline and the potential (this is Tesla after all) lower cost of repair and/or maintenance by not having to purchase a car with every increasing...

Of course they can, they just have to price their MSRP higher. At $50k USD starting price, a 30% that would be $35k. Only the battery is costly, everything else the Germans or Japanese can already make properly. Why do they have to make money if it shuts competitors off? I know it's...

Enjoy your new ICEV OP. If our government incentive in Ontario is cancelled, I will surely consider picking up a good deal on an Accord Touring 2.0 10-speed AT.
