    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I also got a text finally from Tesla telling me to grip my phone tightly and answer all calls, just in case :-) Melbourne, P3D+

Tesla did not predict the rise of EVs, the caused the rise of EVs. Musk's strength is that he sees something that should be happening to improve some key aspect of life, and then produces compelling products at disruptive prices to make it happen.

Looking at the Random206 spreadsheet, there are 44 people scheduled for a delivery from Richmond, 38 with black interiors, and of whom, just 15 have a delivery date. Even assuming that this represents only 5% of all Tesla model 3 deliveries, if they were actually delivering 8 vehicles per hour...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

To quote the great engineer Scotty, "Ye cannae change the laws of physics, captain!" The maximum usable surface area of a car is maybe 6 square metres if you are lucky, which equates to under 2kW of generating capacity even at maximum theoretical efficiency of solar cells. At realistic...

Firstly, Professor Green is an awesome chap. He actually taught the semiconductor physics class at UNSW when I was there. It was fascinating the way that he started with solar cells and then went on to topics such as bipolar junction transistors, describing then as "solar cells but with a wire...

No offence, but it looks like you don't know how Australian/NZ domestic power sockets actually work. As you will see from the AS/NZS 3112 page on wikipedia, the standard power socket is available in 10A (most common), 15A, 20A, 25A and 32A. These are all based on the same general shape, but...

I have bought an industrial quality 15A extension cable (from these guys) with 2.5sqmm cable so that when I have access to a good 15A socket I can use that, and other wise use the Amphibian adapter and run with less loss. It also means that I can carry just one extension cord for charging on the...

There was a guy who was organising to pay with his Amex, although there was a 1.5% fee for this, so it can be done.

As in January 2019 reservation? Rage, building. A red veil mists my vision.

In Melbourne, no contact and no SMS, so definitely not like those other broadcast messages. Lucky you.

I don't begrudge this interest free loan to Tesla, and after my long wait for a three phase Powerwall 2, I should not have been surprised at another wait. I just wish that they could have at least tried to show that they were rewarding us early supporters with more than just a pretty card and...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

To extend on this, given the terrible way that Tesla dealt with this in the UK market, one would have thought that the local teams would have learned from their mistakes and scaled their operations accordingly. Basic stock control and vehicle logistics is not exactly rocket surgery, they know no...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Sorry, you misunderstand. I was expressing incredulity as to your reservation date, which I retrieved from Random206's spreadsheet. My reservation is 8th April 2016, more than 2 years before yours. My order (before Tesla stuffed it) was also the day before yours. The only difference between us...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

That is up to you. You can daisy chain the units together and they will prioritise charging according to some sort of algorithm. Would likely save you some money as well as room in your board, which might be important if you are running short of space. If the Model Y also has an 11kW charger...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Glad you have a date, but if you get your car (exactly the same as mine) before me I am going to be so annoyed with Tesla. Deposit on the 18th May, 2018 and order on 1st June! More than 2 years later than my deposit, and after my original order (which admittedly Tesla stuffed up, leading me to...

Your electrician will know what to do, but for 11kW you could just set the HPWC to 11kW and use a 20A three phase breaker. A 40A three phase breaker (basically three single phase breakers linked together) would serve a full 22kW capable charge. Personally, I will be setting up for 22kW just in...

It depends on whether Tesla is ready to give you one. For me, my finance company requested the invoice weeks ago, and there has been no sign of it. If I had a vehicle assigned then I suspect that it would have been issued instantly.

Ah, finally a good question! I am thinking that I might start out with something eclectic, like Russian Folk Metal giant Arkona's "No moey zemla", follow it up with some Tyr or Sabaton and then maybe some Bach, perhaps the fifth of his Brandenburg concertos.

Realistically, unless the manual controls can be completely locked out (or removed), you will not be able to drive while drunk under any circumstances. Too great a chance that you might do something stupid and take over from the driving AI.

So I reached out to Tesla again today since it has been nearly 2 weeks since I last hassled them and was told that they are They did not specify a year of course, so we can only hope that they mean late September 2019. Vehicle: P3D with Performance Pack Reservation: 8/4/2019 Order: 31/5/2019...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I have the same exact spec on order and also exactly the same lack of any sort of information from Tesla. No VIN, no invoice, nothing. I am 8/4/2016 reservation and 31/5/2019 order, with an edit required to correct for Tesla's weak support systems on the following Monday. At this rate, August...

I think that the key thing from the page that you linked is that: The Tesla HPWC definitely detects ground faults since it has a bunch of error codes that get thrown when they happen, does this shut off current at less than 6mA?

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Pretty sure the standards in Aus only call for a Type A at the moment, do we know if the Tesla HPWC charging a Model 3 will ever produce a smooth DC fault current? I guess the B RCD covers all your bases. Does anyone know of any combination of 3P breaker and 4P type B RCD that takes 3-4 DIN...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Installation of an HPWC should always be on a dedicated circuit. You will need a circuit breaker (or three, for three phase), which protects against over current from short circuit or other failure, and a Residual Current Device (RCD) to protect against other failures, generally to do with...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Recent Nissan Leafs, Audi E-tron, Jaguar IPace, Mercedes EQC to start. I think that even the new Vauxhall eCorsa uses a reverse cycle system. I think that Tesla is one of the few still using resistive heating, but it may be for a very good reason, since Tesla are also one of the most efficient...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I live in Melbourne, which represents around 20% of the population of Australia and this morning as I left home it was 0C and there was a heavy frost on the windscreen that had to be melted off. Efficient heating is important. As to why Tesla uses resistive heating rather than a heat pump to...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Now this starts to rustle my jammies... I have the same configuration and order date, but in Blue, and have held my reservation since 2016 and have heard absolutely nothing. Congratulations on your car, but unless Tesla get in touch with me with a delivery date before then, they have definitely...

In Victoria at least you can look up the VIN on the VicRoads website based on the registration number, which is prominently displayed on your vehicle. I suspect that nefarious uses of the VIN are nothing but paranoia, at least in Australia.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I sold my last performance car, a BMW M3 about 8 years ago now, as the Nissan Leaf was about to hit the Australian market. I vowed at the time that I would not buy another performance car until I could get one that was fully electric. I figured at the time that companies like Nissan, who have a...

Remember that you are not just limited to Superchargers like a Model S or X. Any CCS2 charger will do the job. ChargeFox are currently finishing off a 350kW charge station at the entrance to the RACV resort in Torquay. These are currently free to use (Euroa and Barnawatha currently live)!

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

On the day that I pick up the car from Richmond I will be running it up to the Euroa Chargefox CCS2 350kW charger and checking our the Euroa Supercharger. The first weekend I will also be driving to Sydney to see my father and oldest daughter, charging at a combination of 350kW ChargeFox...

The charger will tell the car how much current that it can deliver, so you don't need to turn anything down. If the circuit is 40A then the wall connector is probably set for 32A and will deliver about 7kW or about 50km/h of charge.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Technically, since I used my own referrer code (Powerwall 2 owner) I get 3000km free supercharging :-) I agree on the referral code thing. The process to use both my reservation (which I originally also missed) and a referral code was so arcane that I had to do it on a full-sized web browser...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I am starting to feel like I will not get a vehicle in the first batch despite having a deposit down for 3.5 years and ordering a top spec model. I ended up having to make two orders because the original, which I placed about 3 minutes after I got the text from Tesla on May 31st did not pick up...
