Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I bet the cars coming out of the 3 and 2 year leases are in much better shape and will require significantly less refurbishing as they have not had any abuse as service loaners. Plus, they can bill the previous owner for any damage or excess wear and tear as stipulated in the lease contract...
  2. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Could Tesla just come out with two tiers? They can then dispose of cars that are damaged or abused as loaners as "used cars" and then sell cars in good condition as "CPO cars." Used Cars sold "as is" that are mechanically sound. i.e. wheels turn, steering works, goes forward and backwards...
  3. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Totally agree with you. Plus a private party preowned car would not be abused as a loaner either. The previous Tesla CPO route was still a viable option when it came with the promise that they would recondition the car but now you pay a huge premium to buy one of these cars and then the first...

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I would settle for a "Inspected by Kia CPO" sticker because Kia DOES refurbish cars they sell :p
  5. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

So I wonder how you would feel if you picked up the same car and Tesla did not do any of the following because that's what will happen from now on where they only make sure the car functions mechanically. Worse yet, the car could have even more significant issues but none of those issues are...

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I would buy a used Tesla from CarMax in a heartbeat if it was sold with a comprehensive warranty. They already do a great job of refurbishing cars they sell, especially high end vehicles. Maybe we should start a Change.org petition imploring CarMax to start selling used Teslas. They actually...
  7. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

It's almost ironic you said the words "standard practice nationwide" because that's what they have now done, where the OP's experience is now the policy, as cars are no longer refurbished. So they did not make the experience better but made up a policy where all they promise is a car that...
  8. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Tesla's solution for the damage caused by using these cars as loaners is to get people who buy used cars to now pay for all that damage while people beat the hell out of them as loaners. It IS crazy.
  9. E

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

IMHO Tesla should not be in the business of selling gross cars. New or used, when Tesla sells a car, it should meet certain standards beyond the car working "mechanically."
  10. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

"Mechanically Functioning" is the new goal and high bar when you buy a used Tesla from Tesla :p I guess you can then take your used Tesla that is not refurbished to a used car dealer and ask them how much it would cost to refurbish it, because car dealers -- for all their faults -- seem to have...
  11. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

They are probably scared to offer warranty coverage as the ESA is no longer valid when a car's ownership chain touches a car dealer. I really wish I could purchase a CPO Tesla from CarMax and not Tesla given how awful Tesla has made their used car program. Isn't it interesting for all the talk...

    ESA Warranty Coverage

That's good to know. Seems like the current version of the ESA is better as it has a per visit $200 deductible and it is not per repair. If anyone has anything else to add, please let me know.
  13. E

    ESA Warranty Coverage

So is there a tl;dr version of the ESA where someone can tell me if any common Model S failures are not covered by the ESA? :p
  14. E

    ESA Warranty Coverage

Thanks, that is good to know. I guess if a 12V battery fails before 24 months then at least I could make the case that it is due to a defect. Glad to hear that the other common failures are covered. I will religiously perform the annual services and will verify with Tesla the ESA is valid...
  15. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

If Tesla were selling these cars for 30, 40, or even around 50K I think there would be less of an effect by this policy but at prices above that, I can't imagine a lot of people who are going to be fine with torn or stained headliners, damaged or scratched seats, curbed wheels, paint damage or...
  16. E

    ESA Warranty Coverage

With the recent change where Tesla sells their cars without any refurbishment, I have given up looking for a CPO car. When considering a private party sale with the ESA, does anyone know of any common Model S failures that would not be covered by the ESA? Would the ESA cover 12V batteries, half...
  17. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

This is going to be such a mess for people looking to buy a Tesla as well as for the Tesla staff who now have to share acceptable photos documenting the condition of the cars and keep having to take photos as the cars endure even more wear and tear as they are used for loaners. Whatever trust...
  18. E

    CPOs before the BIG change

Yeah it is ridiculous. Can you imagine a car dealer selling a $98,000 used car while proudly proclaiming that it is not refurbished?
  19. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Yeah good luck with enforcing that when they don't disclose the condition of the car...
  20. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Here you go... They will give you a bill to fix any damage to the car as long as the car functions "mechanically." They don't show photos of the car so you have no clue what needs to be refurbished and they don't disclose the cost to refurbish anything non mechanical. The reasoning for this is...
  21. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

That other thread is right. They really have created the worst used car buying experience with this new policy. Can you imagine a car dealer telling you, yes we have this used car, sorry we don't have any photos but our customers drive this car as a loaner so they may damage it, but we wont...
  22. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Hopefully they will reconsider this horrible policy. There is another thread about a CPO car delivered in bad condition. At least they are doing the right thing by fixing the issues. Imagine if that was your car and they told you "We are not going to fix anything because the car still works...
  23. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Absolutely, and this current policy change is essentially a hidden undisclosed cost on top of the already quite high prices since they are now refusing to refurbish the vehicles and they don't even tell you how badly the vehicles are damaged when they show the listings It's astounding some...
  24. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Again, easy for you to say. What about the person who needs a car, trusts buying a car from the manufacturer based on previous experience of buying other cars from the manufacturer, only to find out after they have put down the deposit that the car has damage that was neither disclosed nor they...
  25. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

That's why this policy is so wrong and indefensible.
  26. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

How is that a reasonable way to buy a car from the manufacturer? o_O The point being when you are buying a $70K used car, customers deserve to be treated better. The problem is they don't disclose all the damage and what refurbishing will cost when you look at used cars online and put down a...
  27. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

This is their new policy. It is listed with every per-owned car. They are basically trying to get people to pay for all the damage and wear and tear caused by using these cars as loaners when that damage is never disclosed in advance.
  28. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Just realize that as bad as your experience is, future customers who buy these cars from Tesla, are in for even worse treatment. There is no longer even any pretense of trying to deliver a car in like new condition, which is what you would get when you buy a 2-3 year old used car from any other...
  29. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Just understand that this was under their previous policy. With the new policy they will give you a bill to fix all that and this extra cost is not disclosed when you put down a deposit to buy the car.
  30. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

With the new policy though cars will no longer be delivered with the experience you described. They have obviously refurbished your car. Customers in the future will be given a bill for that refurbishment, not disclosed when you put down the deposit, when they go to pick up the car. What we are...
  31. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Making stuff up? Read the new policy. It makes it explicitly okay to deliver a CPO car in the shape and condition described by the OP. They are now only committing to delivering a car that "mechanically" works. You are entitled to think this new policy is acceptable to you but many people...
  32. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I can understand cutting costs but whatever happened to treating customers with some respect and dignity? Some of these CPO cars are priced around $70,000 or $80,000. How can they in good conscience sells cars at these prices that have been abused as service loaners for god knows how long...
  33. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

This is brand new. Basically they delivered a CPO car that looked trashed, there was an outcry, and now apparently any used Tesla can be delivered in that condition and if you complain that it looks trashed, they will actually give you a bill for the undisclosed damage found after putting money...
  34. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

But the question is how is this the way to treat customers buying 60, 70, 80K used cars? What does it say about the company when they come up with a policy so contrary to treating customers fairly, especially when you have no idea what the cars up for sale look like? They don't show the photos...
  35. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Maybe Tesla should hire whoever runs the Hyundai CPO Program? Imagine being able to buy a Tesla with the level of comfort you get with a Hyundai CPO o_O
  36. E

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

How on earth do you expect them to sell their used cars if they have to show pictures of what they look like? :p That's for when you pay for the car and show up to pick it up :D
  37. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Perhaps a solution to this is for Tesla to offer "As Is Used" cars and then "Proper CPO" cars? This way cars that are beaten up can be sold as is as used cars and then they can still sell higher quality cars as CPO cars.
  38. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Absolutely. Especially with the recent changes, it would be very unwise to pay for a CPO Tesla until the vehicle has been inspected. What I'm afraid is that this policy makes the recent publicized experience the norm. If that is what they did under the old program, can you imagine how they...
  39. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Forget about matching Audi or Porsche CPO standards, but I just don't understand why Tesla can't at least match the CPO standards of Kia. When you buy a CPO Kia, they go through all the following and refurbish everything to match Kia standards...
  40. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

The problem I see is even with the existing policy, they were selling CPO cars that look like they had the crap beaten out of them. So now without even a guise of wanting to make an effort, can you imagine how crappy the vehicles offered as CPO vehicles would be? Worse yet I feel like they are...
  41. E

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Most people buy a CPO car because they want a used car in immaculate condition with the knowledge that the manufacturer has refurbished the car to look like new. This new policy turns this on its head and I don't know of any car dealer who sells CPO cars without refurbishing them. Heck even the...

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

By Comparison, these are all the "Appearance" items that Mercedes refurbishes to look like new for the CPO cars they sell. 32 Point Appearance Inspection Engine wash Trunk Mats Paint Spare Tire, Tools & Jack, Check Tirefit sealant expiration date Moisture and Odor Vacuum and Shampoo Floor Mats...
  43. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

A new car would be a lot easier but a CPO is going to be really tricky if you want to force them to do a buy back. I hate to say this but this is why before you buy a used car you must insist on inspecting it in person. I would not have been trusting as you but sadly you are in this situation...
  44. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I obviously did not mean that the car was trashed on purpose but the car was allowed to be trashed while it was in the CPO fleet under their care and ownership, which is the same as allowing the car to be trashed. And then they did not fix it before delivery and from what I can tell WEEKS after...
  45. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I honestly think Tesla should charge MASSIVE fees for people who trash service loaners. This is the only way some will learn to respect property that does not belong to them. When you return your loaner, someone should go through the exterior and interior and bill the person for all damages to...
  46. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Not sure I follow your theory. I personally love the tan and cream interior in a Model S and I've always had light interiors n my cars and they have all been spotless and in immaculate condition. I detest black interiors for the same reason as I want to see if something is not clean. The...
  47. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

The only logical explanation is that this car was used as a service loaner and the car got crapped on by many people who trashed the car. I agree, it disgusts me when people have no respect for other people's property. I take care of my car like it was my baby and when I get a service loaner, I...
  48. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Based on how filthy the car was, it is likely that the car was used as a service loaner and I bet this results in cars being completely beaten up and they they have to scramble to refurbish all the damage. They will continue to have these problems as long as they use their CPO cars as loaners as...
  49. E

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I can't believe that with a straight face they are telling you that the car has been detailed. Based on the photos, it was filthy when you received it.

    Stranded waiting for tow.

For an AWD car, would the car be still driven if one drive unit fails?
