Need Help- Buying Tesla car from private party

You can not sue someone in another state and win, no matter the merit of your case. They will always cite lack of personal jurisdiction. I've learned my lesson. (except I will still buy from Manheim and another auction) In your case you run the very real and dangerous risk of paying off...

Top Gear - Very positive review of the P90D

I am so glad that Clarkson is gone, with his Global Warming denial, his Rightist comments, and in fact his purposeful spewage of CO2 at the maximum amounts possible. Utterly useless and impractical man.

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

Should be distilled water. And 99% alcohol is good because it absorbs water and evaporates quickly. Never tested it for conductivity though. Again, most of those board are shot though. The pack's gone, and probably the inverter. I do not wish it so, but it probably is.

    Best Utility trailer for MS?

Put 1,500 lbs on that ATC and you're at the very max for the hitch. You'll get to that weight surprisingly quick, and that's assuming the trailer has a brake. But it doesn't so forget it.

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

stop and JRP, please understand: The Panasonic 18650 cell's nominal voltage, that is its fully-charged voltage, is 3.6v. When ppl talk about 4.2v and above, that is actually charging voltage. When charging is removed, 4.2v is no longer applied. (Do I have to acknowledge that Tesla's cells...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

He is talking about charging a battery up to given voltage points and then discharging it, as the point of his work was to exercise the battery. But nothing about this says that storing it for a reasonable time (say, 2 weeks) at 100% will impair longevity. Tesla has enough sense to not set...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Thank you, excellent lecture, but have a look here. Notice a couple of things; first off, he's referring specifically to the type of battery which Tesla uses. Second, there is absolutely no rollover at 4.25v. Do you think that Tesla has 100% charge set to -above- this level? Certainly not...

  10. Q

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Nothing in the owner's manual says anything anywhere about 90%. The three things that shorten a LIon's life are - Heat - Repeated excessive discharge - Number of charge/discharge cycles. Unless the pack's BMS is so poorly-designed as to allow excessive heat buildup on full-charge trickle...

WORST DAY OF 2016 (details inside and advice needed)

I'm telling you to NOT begin the repairs. If you put the claim on your insurance you WILL get a rate hike and you will not get diminished value. Not to mention that Geico always screws you on claims anyway. I can't believe how long it's taking for you to get the report. In WA I got the...

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

(VIN wrong, miles wrong) But this is his best hope. Maybe Tesla will give him a break. Some state patrol inspections require that airbags be bought new (not from salvage), and receipts shown. WA is one of them. BTW, prices for Copart wrecked cars have gotten astronomical lately. So you...

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

You try buying a salvage pack and getting them to upgrade. I don't know how long ago 'that guy' was. You don't think inducing you to buy another car from Tesla would be a better option for Tesla, than programming upgrades?
  15. Q

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

It's a pricing decision. Same reason they won't upgrade the pack. Oh, they'll upgrade the firmware if it's a recert, but not if the car has been assembled with different electronics. VIN in the MCU doesn't match? Out the door. Other parts don't match up? Same.

The Tesla-certified body shop charges $1,500, and then the SC charges from $300-$1,500, depending on whether any work needs to be done. Remember, there is no warranty. And you don't want to own a car unless it can get OTA updates and use the Superchargers.
  17. Q

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

Tesla will simply not reprogram it if they suspect that two cars have been made into one. The recert fee is lost. But that's what usually keeps out the shoe salesmen. (and judges) Judges made things this way, after all.

Don't forget $2k+ for recert which requires 30 specific pictures, and passing the State Patrol inspection which requires -all- receipts. ZERO warranty, and worth $15k-$20k less than the same model with clear title.

WARNING: I rear-ended someone today while using Auto Pilot in my brand new P90D!

Owner's manual says the ultrasonics turn off over some minimal speed. But I've got to think they at least pretend to turn on for lane-changing. The radar -and- camera are ostensibly used for Autopilot, and the radar should be an absolute dead-reference that something's in front of you, but...

Unintended consequences of naming my car

So many adults are irritated when kids ask "Are we there yet?" Well they ask because they have no perspective of where they are or how far they've gone. Show your kids on a map the whole journey, tell them about how long it will take, and let them know you're 1/3 there, or 3/4 there, so they...

Hm, sounds alot like Ingineer repairs and sells these flood cars... Note to self: Don't buy a Bay Area car. Doubtless the wiring harness is not replaced. Also, Ingineer describes as "the right tools" to open the battery pack when ppl ask him specifically what. I suggest a long, thin-gauge...

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

Toward the beginning of this thread, OP said his Tesla friend told him that before the car died in the drink, it threw 47 codes, several of which indicate water in the pack. It's shot, and can't be opened without irreversible damage. The damage will be close to the water-line in the inverter...

    Expensive license plates in Minnesota

Serves them right for living in Singapore. I had to pay WA an extra annual flat fee of $210 when I converted my Jeep to propane. Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

How fast is Tesla's engineering staff growing? Hardware & software

Now hang on. Yes, nav could use improvement, but that's primarily on the vendor/ choice of vendor. I've seen significant improvement from 7.0 to 7.1, with only one major problem being the front-end collision problem. I say that's due to some component being too busy to respond in time, which...
  36. Q

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

The charger gasket wasn't tight, as it clearly leaked. The car wasn't deep, so it's not a question of pressure. The body panels aren't as bad as I'd thought they would be. You should replace all the wiring harnesses, although you still have a bad inverter/motor and pack.

What the Heck is up with Autopilot?

Ala ka Zam predicts: the CPU is too busy to respond in time. Thus means one of 3 things: - It's in an unreasonable loop due to a bug; or - A single driver or app needs optimizing; or - It's just going as fast as it can and the load at busy times is past 100%, which means optimization AND...

That's an impressive amount of mineral, to come just from the water inside the can. Looks like it was in the Great Salt Lake. (though we know it didn't) Look at the cupric oxide on those connectors. Oh yeah, this was New Joisey. That accounts for it... all the spit on the sidewalks.

There are too many variables here, not even considering the parts situation and that it's an aluminum car.
