There's are 5x120 bolt pattern. The Y uses 5x114.3. Not plug and play without an adapter.

    Regenerative braking reduced warning

Screens are from a 2020 Model Y LR. When I did the datalog, the software did a poor job of integrating the heat pump in cold weather. By March 2021, software 2021.4.11 was released and the heat pump was integrated better with the Octovalve system. I'll be doing more logs this winter, I just...

Active cell balancing occurs when the vehicle is asleep, SoC > 85%, and cell imbalance is > 5.0 mV.

    Long term airport parking

Ditto. I've pulled information from the Scan Mt Tesla app and it's drawing about 40 watts/hr once it's asleep. This was tested in cold weather and warm weather.

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

The Y doesn't need a rear wiper. Most Y owners can vouch for this. ~17 months of ownership and not once did I think "I can't see out the back window, wish there was a wiper."

    Long term airport parking

The temperature when the battery heating turns on varies based upon a wide range of parameters. You're in a region where you must likely won't have to worry about it. I've seen this fluctuate between -20F through 20F. I don't watch the field often so the parameter could have a wider range.

    Long term airport parking

I came to post this. I've had some variation in the drain my vehicle has during long-term parking. No explanation but to be honest, I don't really care. 4% and 9% over 7 days. Both of the large airports near me have a supercharger within 5 miles or 25 miles, but I generally have 50-60% on the...

Change battery meter to show energy?

I don't have much experience with TesLAX so I can't say if one is better than the other. I've been quite happy with the SMT app with the assorted updates and changes that the developers have implemented over the years. Yes, it also uses the CAN bus harness and Bluetooth OBDII adapter to...

Change battery meter to show energy?

There are 3rd party apps that will give you a lot more information. I've been using Scan My Tesla, which will provide you with pretty much everything you'd ever want to know about the car.

Picture of your Model Y - Right Now!

Yeah, Mach-E owners in the US are drooling at the thought of being able to tap into the Tesla supercharger network. A year ago, it was mostly bad words directed at Elon Musk. Today, Mach-E owners aren't bad mouthing him as much lol

Mustang Mach-E GT Performance VS. Model Y Performance

It wouldn't be close due to how the Mach-E GT and GTPE throttle back the power after 5 seconds, unless it's in the Unbridled Extend mode, which cuts back the max power. They say this is for longer battery life, but it's more likely to prevent the battery pack from overheating. Either way, the...

Preconditioning energy usage - plugged in vs. unplugged

I think everyone is making it more complicated than it should be. The icon simply lets the user know that the battery isn't at the ideal temperature for charging. If you want to get technical, which Tesla chooses not to for obvious reasons, yes, there are a lot of things to discuss. But...

Preconditioning energy usage - plugged in vs. unplugged

I think the confusion is due to the charging source. If it's on a 120V/15A, the power source is not sufficient to keep up with the Stator motor demand, but on a HPWC, the 11.7 kW can warm both motors and still charge the battery.

Mustang Mach-E GT Performance VS. Model Y Performance

Their mistake is the marketing, along with the power figures. If there's going to be a restriction, market the power numbers with the restriction and mention the overbooked figures. This is what Porsche does. With Ford boasting 0-60 in 3.5s, owners are mad because they can't consistently...

Mustang Mach-E GT Performance VS. Model Y Performance

This just showed up on Scan My Tesla. Interesting... front & rear ride height As far as the GT & GTPE, Ford is severely limiting the power after about 5-6 seconds. Even the 1/8th trap is low. If you look at the 50-70, it's around 1.95-2.0. Even my Y LR with acceleration boost is quicker...

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

My decision was because my wife told me to. The reasons she wanted a Tesla was the cargo space for hauling around the dog, trips to Home Depot, and weekend drives. It's hard to beat the amount of cargo capacity in the Y. With the soft crate, we can fit multiple gym bags or carry-on cases in...

    MountainPass Performance Comfort Coilovers

I can't speak for the 2021s, but the 2020 Ys will still have the noise that travels up from the suspension into the interior. It's just poor NVH isolation. Aftermarket springs and coilovers won't fix that. My wife's 2021 3 Performance has very little noise from the subframe over bumps. I...

2021 Model Y Tire Options for better ride & range

Here are the numbers for the 255/45/19 Continental ProContact RX, 104 load rating. I can't find any situation, even with towing, where I would overload the tires/axle. The 104 load rating is overkill, which is perfectly fine. I'm using a 101 load rating on my aftermarket wheels, which are...

Model Y vs Mustang Mach E

225mm section tire for a 4800+ lb vehicle. Way too little tire for a car if that weight. Ford may have designed the stability control in that manner, though. No one knows.

2021 Model Y Tire Options for better ride & range

Everyone is free to make their own decisions. I've done my own calculations and my weights are no where close to overloading the tires I have.

2021 Model Y Tire Options for better ride & range

I've done the math in multiple configurations and as long as you're not towing, a lower load index tire is viable even with a full load of adult passengers and 200 lbs of luggage

PPF vs Ceramic Pro vs Nothing

Realistically, the people that say they're going to repaint won't. Those of us with ppf, the paint will look just as good day 1 vs day 1500. That's why we invest in the product. I'm not doing it so the car looks good for the next owner, I do it for myself.

If you HAD to convince someone to not get a Tesla, what would you say?

Check put the Kia EV6. That 800 volt system is going to be great for L3 charging. Shame it'll be hindered by a weak charging infrastructure for a few years (at least in North America).

    Aftermarket wheels

Expect an 8-10% reduction of range (19" Gemini). The range hit compared to the 21 & 20" setups will be less. The aftermarket open spoke designs increase drag and hurt aerodynamics, so the lighter weight won't offset the losses since weight isn't a factor once the vehicle is at speed.

Camera cleaning driving in snow storms

Any consumer grade SiO2 spray will help. Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions ceramic or graphene spray is readily available, inexpensive, and easy to use. Also works great on the windshield, roof, windows, external mirrors, etc. Highly recommend applying it every 6 months.
  37. pt19713

Laziness is winning, about to go to touchless automatic wash

Yeah, the consumer SiO² won't hold up against those chemicals. I'm surprised the pro-grade ceramic didn't last, either. Typically the 9H products are known to last well over 12-18+ months with touchless washes.

If you plan on doing a road trip to the East Coast, my wife and I can do vinyl wrap the trim for you. We did a whole Model 3, so the trim would be a piece of cake. Once it gets cooler with the temps, you can also look at some of the better ceramic coatings that are easy to apply. Tec580...

Facebook Marketplace. The Mustang forums are also good, although they have mostly staggered setups with large sizes for sale. Laziness is winning, about to go to touchless automatic wash

Most won't spend the extra money, but I'm installing a mini-split. My garage faces the west so it gets a lot of sun in the afternoon. Even with insulation, it hits 88-92F in the summer. With the mini-split, I'll be able to air condition it in the summer and heat it in the winter for the times...

Laziness is winning, about to go to touchless automatic wash

use a pH balanced soap and hand wash. If you can't, make sure you put a wax/ceramic/graphene coating over it so the surface is hydrophobic and the chemicals won't react with the aluminum the next time you go through a touchless wash. You'll need to reapply it often since those touchless washes...

    Mount the 2021 Model 3 19" Sport Wheels on a 2021 Model Y?

The calculation is a little more involved since you have to account for the wheel width. Comparing a +40mm offset on an 8.5" width isn't the same as +45mm offset on a 9.5" width. The change is shown below once you account for the width differences. You gain more clearance on the inner lip...

    Mount the 2021 Model 3 19" Sport Wheels on a 2021 Model Y?

Have you owned a heavy vehicle that can tow? Smaller, lighter cars probably aren't as worried with gross vehicle weight and load ratings. Once you start looking at 5000-5200 lbs of weight, tire and wheel load limits matter.

Laziness is winning, about to go to touchless automatic wash

Most companies use black rubber trim. Tesla uses black anodized aluminum. Touchless washes dump hot alkaline fluid (around 10-11 pH level), then an acidic solution. The two mix for a chemical reaction to loosen the dirt. The black anodized aluminum doesn't like the alkaline solution.

Anyone regret not opting for performance?

No regrets. MYP is the slowest of all the P models. MYLR for the trips, M3P to make Mustangs cry at stop lights.
