Looks like Tesla will have to open up Supercharging to everyone

Tesla, for the first time, will open a portion of its U.S. Supercharger and Destination Charger network to non-Tesla EVs, making at least 7,500 chargers available for all EVs by the end of 2024. The open chargers will be distributed across the United States. They will include at least 3,500 new...

well, I spoke too soon " Tesla, for the first time, will open a portion of its U.S. Supercharger and Destination Charger network to non-Tesla EVs, making at least 7,500 chargers available for all EVs by the end of 2024. Rivian vs Model Y

You spoke of markups. I agree that markups hurt sales. You are right about the declining figures on Ford sales. EV sales, however, are growing. Maybe that will change in the next quarter's reports but for now it's on the up. Non-US markets incentives skew sales? US also has incentives at...

    Rivian vs Model Y

I think your assesment of dealer gouging is a big factor in ev's sitting on lots. It feels like dealers last gasp, knowing companies are pushing for direct sales. I have no sympathy for dealers. Yesterday's pandemic vultures are tomorrow's road kill. EV sales are still growing. January...

    Slow start

I've had occaision where the screen doesn't come on right away- it will have a giant "unlocked" on screen and takes a sec to turn on. Maybe happened 3-4 times. I think also only in the morning, after a long stop. Possible it is lagging to 'wake up' as you say. Normal operation is instant "on"...

    Rivian vs Model Y

Rivian put the money into the product. They are built to an amazing standard, well above Tesla. If I could afford one, I would have one. As for Rivian's survival, the same things were said about Tesla for a long time. Rivian is putting out a superior product that will last. If you're...

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

It took us a good week of regular use to get used to the Y. It really is distracting at first because it's so different than other cars and the lack of familiarity can get frustrating. Once you get over that, and get comfortable with the UI, I far prefer it. It's really easy to live with and I...

Looks like Tesla will have to open up Supercharging to everyone

Tesla already calls their charger the "NACS" and seems to want mass adoption. https://www.tesla.com/blog/opening-north-american-charging-standard They already do it in Norway ? Pretty hard to leave billions $ on the table and out of the US plan for charging infrastructure. It takes away a...

First tire rotation at ~6,500 miles

generally true but it just depends on the management. I've had Americas tire break all the center caps, over torque wheels and not balance wheels correctly. They all have high turnover and high volume, so it's really finding a shop with good management.

    Modern Spare still recommended?

Judging by this thread, the #1 priority is learning how to secure heavy cargo in the vehicle. The amount of dangerous and potentially harmful practices is surprising. I believe it's just lack of knowledge with good intentions. I think many with 3's and Y's have families or more than one...

MYSR is now $4k lower than MYLR. Which one to choose?

I believe the standard range has the new batteries and mega castings. the con of the standard range is it has shorter range. Whether that matters depends on your needs.

Buying a used Tesla Model Y from a previous vape owner?

I would never buy a fully wrapped car. You don't know the paint condition and what damage is underneath. fsd cars go on sale all the time. I would just shop around.

😆 if he thinks the Y is ugly, check out these two winners: or the upcoming Lexus RZ on the BZ4x platform. Smaller, slower than the Y, 220mi range, $60k and with dealer options, $70K. They are banking on loyal customers staying in the ecosystem. It may work but I will bet most will be...

Prado makes sense. Price would be more in line with Toyota and keep Lexus dealers happy. Maybe canabalize GX sales but those are small fries by now. Black roof is unusual. It would match a white tesla y :) you would have the ultimate ice drivetrain and the ultimate ev drivetrain

Toyota Mechanic Reviews the Model Y

Yes, I was speaking about the US. I should have clarified. They stopped selling it here, sales fell off a cliff of already slow sales. Anniversary 200 came as the last year for the LC in the US-just in time for the boom in interest in Land Cruisers and pandemic offroad camping. Terrible...

Yeah, I said the same. He extremely exaggerated the negatives. I think he wanted to make a negative video but from a mechanic's pov to give the air of objectivity. The problem is, he only pointed to some fit and finish issues and opinion on design. He didn't go into any manufacturing...

Well said If you drive the 2022-23 models of Lexus, They are beautifully made vehicles. Fabrication, assembly, welds and construction. Upper level Lexus panel gaps are chefs kiss. But, maybe the more fair comparison is with US made products in the same class. Y is a global product now but...

Toyota Mechanic Reviews the Model Y

Toyota stagnated on ev's because Aioka Toyoda believed in hybrid and hydrogen, wasting billions on it and most importantly-time. They own patents on many hybrid technologies they license out to Ford and others. Most consumers see them as half-steps that cost the same as a ev. Toyoda stepped...

Rav4 Prime is on a waiting list longer than some ev's Y is a competitor to the Lexus NX phev, not the Rav4. build quality of both are much better than the Y. Styling, not so much. Rav4 is one of the best selling suv's - #1 in 2022, i believe and maybe a global sales leader. Subaru and Honda...

It's quality should match its price class. "luxury" car is simply a category based on price and features. The Y is considered a compact premium suv. "luxury compact suv" is also used. That segment includes vehicles like the Q4 etron and Porsche Macan

Tesla has a big advantage in that they don't advertise. They have great R&D, and I love the engineering. That's why we own one. Lets talk about the subject of criticism here in the video and the weak point of Teslas. The build quality and assembly, materials. They are simply not there...

That '17 Land Cruiser is the epitome of simple, built like a vault, with supreme quality and manufacturing. One of the most durable automobiles on the planet. Model Y , black vs white interior comfort difference.

$1500 for what? "Genuine Leather" is the lowest quality leather product you can get. I'd rather have OEM pleather than any aftermarket product that cheap.

Fairly good review but he over-emphasizes the negatives to an extreme degree. I'm a Toyota guy as well and he is a good mechanic. 100% agree that Tesla needs to keep improving and iterating the quality of manufacturing, materials and assembly. He can say it's empty and cheap but everyone...

White interiors feature upgraded materials with softer 'vegan leather' for a more premium feel and look. White is a $1000 option. Black is the standard 'vegan leather' interior.

Targeted Harassment - neighbor going out of way to set my alarm off daily

Cops won't do anything. If you can file reports for every incident, have the police write it up and save all the footage. If damage occurs, you have a history of the kid doing this and insurance and/or court will be relatively easy. Other than that, depends on how you feel about going to war...

@Zcd1 very similar feelings. Many dealers were non-starters for me. what is wrong with the geometry and suspension design? It's right up there with everyone else. forged alloy upright, multi link arms all alloy I think the only stamped steel is the lower rear arm/spring perch Nothing wonky...

Model Y Review by a Hater

They simply didn't put the R&D into fine tuning the suspension and ride quality. That takes time and money, even for legacy makers with established methodologies. Coils or air, doesn't matter. It takes development to fine tune. There are a combination of factors here. Tesla undersizes the...

Model Y Review by a Hater

If you remember, Tesla originally developed the M3 with the idea of using the Raven air suspension along with the X and S. They abandoned that but there remains areas in the 3 and Y where the air suspension would have gone. I think Tesla's focus on speed of assembly and cost cutting trumped...

Model Y Review by a Hater

I come from German cars as well. Interior is of avg quality. Tesla did a good job of hiding cost cutting but the door cards have hard plastics and it should all be covered. There are manufacturing choices that are unacceptable on a Corolla, much less anything above $20k. But, they hide it...

I think companies can see when their name or products ping on a forum. Cracked roof using roof rack w/ cargo box

Reminds me of the saying, "Close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades" Unfortunately, unlike metal, Glass is never "a little bit" damaged. It is or it isn't. I guess putting anything close to a glass roof comes with inherent risk but boy, that rack design doesn't help.

Cracked roof using roof rack w/ cargo box

That's really disappointing to hear. I hope Tesla pushes for a redesign from the vendor (Yakima). Really, if the feet came over the sides more, it would make it impossible for the rack to shift into the glass. Also a redesign of the bracket so there is a true vertical load and not a...

Cracked roof using roof rack w/ cargo box

You are thinking of the feet as a spring. That should not be the case. By your statement, that would also mean the rack is loose with any load on it. If the nut tightened further with load, that would mean you have the correct torque spec with load. The rubber feet have compressed and 'settled...

Cracked roof using roof rack w/ cargo box

Interesting. Since they are a fixed width, there is no error possible in setting up the width of the crossbars. The L-brackets are simply locating brackets. At 3Nm, that is very low torque spec. It is not intended to hold weight, just hold the rack in place. Pulling forces would be on the nut...
