    Turning in my FanBoy status

Everything except the recommendation to sell. All cars with character have issues. It seems to be part of the package and people like to complain about it. Tesla still has a lot to learn about "the basics" that other automakers have refined over the last hundred years.

    Turning in my FanBoy status

Yes - the latest update seems to include video lag for the backup camera. Also a not very responsive outside temperature gauge.

My Tesla S P85d nightmare. I don't think I ever want another tesla ever again and want to get rid of this junk asap

Any chance you bought a salvage (flood) car? Tesla has some issues but what you're describing sounds like a damaged car. You might have some recourse if you have the dealer's disclosure of no accidents in writing but it's difficult to get resolution on things like that.

MCU lagging, crashing on long trips after v11

I've had some odd startup behavior the last few days that appeared essentially to be MCU lag. I got in the car yesterday afternoon to the "T" logo onscreen before the driving display came up. Not the usual behavior. Hopefully someone will come along to defend Tesla and explain to us that it's...

    $12K for FSD is insane

I'm really only interested in cruise control, which doesn't work well.

    $12K for FSD is insane

Except it isn't and they don't. Must be nice to devote so much time to something devoid of social relevance.

Model S very poor "Vision Line Height" for Tall Drivers?

Tilting the seat base helps but more for thigh support than allowing more visibility.

    $12K for FSD is insane

Amazing to me how much effort you put into defending perceived quality. I think you just want people to agree with your opinion. Autopilot is not useable.

    $12K for FSD is insane

I continue to maintain that it's an embarrassment to use with other people in the car. Thank you though for all of the unsolicited homework assignments you've turned in. Maybe someone will read them. Autopilot is not useable.

    $12K for FSD is insane

Seems that you are just happy with poor performance.

Model S very poor "Vision Line Height" for Tall Drivers?

I'm 6'7" and have a penchant for smaller cars. Line of sight has always been an issue and is mostly that I often can't see traffic lights without leaning my head sideways. I previously had a couple of Mini Coopers and used a product called "Light in Sight," which is basically just a prismatic...

    $12K for FSD is insane

Wide release does not imply that it functions. Get over yourself and stop trying to justify a purchase you made to other people. Adaptive cruise systems have been in production for years without issue by virtually all automakers without phantom braking. None of Tesla's automated driving...

    $12K for FSD is insane

And I'll keep saying the tech doesn't work as advertised. It would otherwise be available.

    $12K for FSD is insane

I think the term everyone is looking for is "vaporware."

    “Dumb” cruise control?

Still waiting on the source for that 1% figure. I doubt it will be forthcoming.

    BMW using a brushed motor

Automotive life cycle testing typically runs 100k to 150k miles before failure depending on the component. Sometimes the only difference is the duration of the test.
  18. JustJohn

I can't wait for the next update! Phantom braking is driving me nuts.

According to some, it's really only a one percenter problem and should be ignored.
  19. JustJohn

    “Dumb” cruise control?

You got to my thoughts on that first. I like my car and the previous responder makes a lot of unfounded assumptions on why I bought my car plus bringing in an additional conflation between autopilot and "full self driving." I make car parts for a living and if they don't work, we recall them...

    “Dumb” cruise control?

Excuses aside, the cruise control doesn't work. Rename it if you like, it still doesn't work. Argue about the safety merits of how it does act when employed and a rational person should get to the same conclusion: It doesn't work. I bought my car for the driveline technology and I would...

If you wondered how those excellent gaps were achieved…

They still use rubber mallets to adjust panel gaps on BMWs just down the road. It's never been a secret.

Model 3 Build Quality - What's your experience?

M3P in the US with no panel or paint issues. Some primer or e-coat showing in the door jamb hinge area which is not a great thing to have but there it is. Thought I had some bubbles in the rear glass and scheduled a dealer visit. It turned out to be some type of overspray which they fixed. Had...

Did you use a Tesla authorized electrician?

No. It's just a wiring diagram to follow like anything else. Licensed electricians can follow local electrical codes. The install can be as simple or upscale as you need it.
  25. JustJohn

How did you convince your significant other to order a Tesla?

Not a Tesla but I simply drove an electric vehicle for 3 years before ordering my M3. He now has an F150 Lightning reservation.
  26. JustJohn

When will Tesla update Model 3 interior?

Because the interior of my M3P is so minimalist, I sometimes feel like I need to hang a picture or set out a few decorative items on the dash. It's more like a room than a cockpit. That's just my impression, regardless of design intent that made it that way. Leather as an option would have been...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

I had the range extender and a later version that was an actual 100 mile range. I needed the range extender as a crutch to convince myself that I could live with a BEV in the long term. Since I have a 14 mile commute one way, it was never an issue and I put about 38k miles on that car with about...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

I guess it really depends on whether we're discussing technology or production capacity. I've long thought BMW had adequate real world experience with electric drivetrains and my experience with the i3 (with respect to quality) was better than any other BMW I've owned. Sharing platforms with ICE...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

BMW is not playing catch up. I drove an i3 for several years as a "transitional" vehicle for several years with zero issues. I would have bought the i4M if they had done a better job with range. If anything, I think BMW has misread the market for electric vehicles in spite of having years of...

Putting the whole S package into another vehicle

EV conversions are already happening in the hotrod community, which generally is without regard to expense. Body on any other chassis conversions always take a much more in depth approach because all of the integrated systems have to follow and function correctly or be coded out of the ECU. It's...

    Phantom text messages

I've recently had an incident testing back to a group text from my car. It only sent the response to the text originator and dropped everyone else from the conversation. Iphone 13 in this case.

MyQ Smart Garage Door opener with EVE

I was put off by not having a garage door opener as well. Converted the house garage doors to MyQ just like the detached garage and it really hasn't been a problem. I drive with my phone on the charging bay almost all the time.

General chit-chat in "For Sale" threads

Here's a thought: Start a separate thread whining about used car price fluctuations and don't clutter up somebody's for sale posting. You wouldn't walk onto a lot and do it, what makes it any different here?

Should one charge each night, or only when needed?

BMW E46 chassis cars for openers. 200k + is not uncommon. It's only a comparison, not a contest.

Tesla autopilot is too strict on rules

Lots of dissention from people claiming to have superhuman reflexes and hyper focus. Cars and their governing regulations are not designed for you. They are designed for the most oblivious idiot who can qualify for both a license and a car loan which, statistically speaking, is at least half of...

21 UberTurbine Wheels, what is under the centercap.

+1 on splined Gorilla lug nuts. I've run them on all my classic cars since discovering them. If you cheap out on lug nuts they will end up looking terrible in less than a year.

Blog Tesla Crashes into Cop Car After Launch of NHTSA Autopilot Investigation

I hardly see that as drifting off topic as it is irresponsible driving (or lack thereof). Yes, is is actually illegal to defeat automotive safety systems, probably NHTSA standard 208 or something very close, and likely also falls under driving while impaired (defined as any obstruction to...

Nothing exciting under there. There's a small hole at the edge of the inner circle that you can use to insert a hook and remove it. My lug nuts appeared to be zinc plated.

Delivery / Service Issues (panel gaps, delivery delays / issues / Service problems etc)

Bubbles in the rear glass roof section! Looks like a manufacturing defect in either the glass or lamination. They were small enough that it took me a week to notice but a few are actually at the surface, which makes it a pit. Certain Tesla will fix it, just not certain how to deal with the 1.5...

How to Add Gen 3 Wall Connector to Wi-Fi?

All I can tell you are the facts of the situation. I did not set up the charger the first night and it tripped a 50A breaker. When I logged into the wall connector, it was set to a 60A circuit, which I changed to 50A. Anything beyond that is speculative. So no, I don't have another issue. Sorry...
