The reason Tesla will overtake BMW

Let's rage about BMW itt. There are a lot of BMW transplants on this subforum who share my disdain for what the brand has become, and although I typically find Doug DeMoron's videos pretty 'meh' - he absolutely nails it with this one: I can't quite explain it, but to me, Tesla today feels...

How much does the Model 3 Performance actually weigh?

Yeah I agree it's mostly bloat. It is impressive that they were able to make the ND Miata weigh as much as the NB, though - seems like the Japanese are keeping it in check, but the krauts have completely lost it. I've heard it's "taboo" in German engineering culture to build something the same...

How much does the Model 3 Performance actually weigh?

Thank you. Had me feeling 'misled.' I know we're constantly bitching about this thing being heavy, but can anyone name an AWD ICE sedan of similar performance that weighs considerably less? Equivalent that comes to mind is the BMW ///M340i ///MxDrive ///M @ 3,979 lbs.

How much does the Model 3 Performance actually weigh?

Has anyone actually put this thing on a scale or corner balanced? I could've sworn an earlier version of the owners manual said it was lighter, but now it says "maximum curb weight" 4,250 lbs, whatever that means. Found a "bjorn" video where he puts it on some scale that sort of coincides with...

Getting "older" parts for 2018 - 2020 Model 3s in the future?

That's what I'm wondering. Technically the new headlights (as an example) fit the car - but they're not quite the same.

If you could change one thing about the Model 3...

Although I don't think the Model 3 is the most beautiful car out there, I agree with this sentiment. In a weird way, it reminds me of how cars were styled in the mid/late 2000s. Every time I look at it and think it could look better, I consider the alternatives and they are all horrible. With...

If you could change one thing about the Model 3...

I've found that if you engage the blinker while applying turning force in the direction you're changing lanes, the "threshold" for disengaging AP is drastically reduced. So then all you have to do is re-engage once you've finished the maneuver. Still not "perfect" but makes it less of a PITA.

Getting "older" parts for 2018 - 2020 Model 3s in the future?

Yeah there are encouraging and discouraging arguments from both sides... only time will tell. The TM3 is pretty damn popular though... can't wait until they start ending up in junkyards.

Any issues giving the car the beans when cold?

o_O I've asked this question and the general consensus was no - the car will prevent maximum power output until "it's ready." The gearbox is also so stupid simple that I doubt there's much "warming up" required there, either - it's literally just a few gears. But... I have mechanical sympathy...

Getting "older" parts for 2018 - 2020 Model 3s in the future?

Let's say one of my headlights takes a dump 5 years from now. Am I going to be able to go to the service center and get the same "pre-update" headlight, or would I be cornered into getting the "updated" variant due to availability? Consequently having to buy two to avoid the car looking like a gimp?

If you could change one thing about the Model 3...

This was my take on it - maybe someday the batteries will be able to deliver so much so fast that it doesn't really make sense to let it go "all out." How is Porsche accomplishing "consistent performance" in the Taycan? Ya - the gears shifting.

If you could change one thing about the Model 3...

Couple more since I'm sure some Tesla asshole is scouring these forums and who cares about rules: Consistent performance. If there's one thing that makes me sad, it's the fact that the response is different @ 40+ MPH @ 20% SoC vs. 80% SoC. Nearly got into accidents a couple of times as a...

    Model 3 auto-x questions

A few questions for you guys who are actively autocrossing your TM3s... How many runs do you typically get in for an entire day? I know "it depends" on the organization, number of people, etc. I haven't been in years, and it used to be borderline not worth it vaporizing an entire Saturday to...

Is this an appropriate device to monitor 12V on a model 3?

It depends on the car, I guess - my BMW only went to “sleep” after 16 mins of being parked. God knows wtf the Tesla does. I think it displays the results in something like 5 - 7 seconds.

Is this an appropriate device to monitor 12V on a model 3?

sankou. Just trying to keep things simple. Do you guys know whether it’s recommended to let a 12V battery “rest” unhooked from anything for a certain number of hours before testing? To get a more accurate read on its condition?

Which wheels are doing the regen?

I'm having a hell of a time finding a credible answer to this. Does anyone know for sure which wheels are doing the regenerative braking? I thought it was the rear, but lately I'm hearing the front also comes into play at lower speeds. Which is it?

I wish the Model 3 had the new Model S steering wheel

Although Jalopnik has become a glorified version of reddit, I think they summed it up nicely: "Yes, the stalk that has been effectively standard on nearly all cars since the late 1940s was deemed not, I don’t know, disruptive enough for Tesla, so they’ve provided this instead"

Anyone know how to replace a headlight light bulb?

Tech that came out to my house said this is true but you can simply call and ask them to send the latest software version to your car and it would work. Dunno if that’s true. Also removing the headlight takes the removal of 3 bolts. But first you must remove frunk and bumper which are...

I'd considered that possibility, but he's mentioned several times how chrome is harmful to the environment within that context and that it's a good thing Tesla decided to drop it from the 3/Y. So I dunno. Grain of salt and all that.

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

This post reiterates what another poster on here summed up a while ago: What's good for battery health is not necessarily good for SoC readouts. I've been charging to ~60% daily for months now during COVID. My "maximum range" has been all over the place. Whatever.
