    Software branch question

Interesting, I didn't realize that all builds have FSD. TeslaFi actually has a filter for FSD vs. non-FSD builds so I always assumed they were different. Also interesting that another FSD car is stuck on the 2023.44.x branch like I am. Maybe a good sign that FSD 12 is near.

    Software branch question

If I simply don't install a new build will Tesla push me another build overriding the one I'm ignoring at some point? Or do I need to install the one I'm ignoring before I could potentially get another build in the future. Interesting that your FSD Y is on the 2023 branch. My FSD Y is as...

    Software branch question

I have been on a 2023 FSD branch since the holiday update. Now that FSD 12 is on the horizon, I have a question about software versions and branches. I noticed that some Tesla employees recently got a 2023.x release with FSD 12, and according to TeslaFi most of the 2024 software version don’t...

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s vs Hankook Ion EvoAS

Has anybody driven the Hankook iON EVO AS on a snowy/slushy road? Wondering how they compare to the Michelin Sport Pilot AS in those kind of conditions.

Conveniently that's the tire that Costco has. Any idea how it compares to the Hankook Ion Eva?

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

What I gain by leaving my car at 100% I lose by having a bit more depth of charge I guess. Not sure who comes out ahead... I rarely do 100% overnight but always wondered if that was a bed idea. I usually sacrifice a bit of range by usually starting trips at 90% for that reason (I'm less worried...

    Model Y Tire Replacement

Yep that is the same as what I said above (Tesla says to replace at 5/32 if you have to drive in snow). I plan to replace before 5/32. Since I only drive a few times in snow each year it's hard to justify winter tires for 6 months which result in an efficiency penalty. It would be different if...

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

Yeah I feel like i dont get range anxiety at 50% since can charge at a whim in my garage’s shared charger (albeit slowly at 6 kw) if I have something coming up. There are superchargers on the major highways heading out of town but frankly I’m surprised how rare DC fast charging is around here. 6...

    Model Y Tire Replacement

Tesla says to replace at 5/32 if you have to drive in snow, and 4/32 in all cases. I was thinking if I hit 5/32 right around spring I can make it through summer, but will definitely replace before next fall in any case. Yeah the Conti Pro Contact is not great in snow, but I can manage. I’d...

    Model Y Tire Replacement

Maybe I’m an exception but I am at 15k miles and have 5.75 mm (7/32 inches) left on front, 4.75 mm (6/32 inches) remaining on rear. I did 2 rotations already (each one at 7,500 miles). Trying to make my tires last but they’re getting close to the limit. At 5/32 Tesla says the tires are no...

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

I work from home and usually do one large drive each weekend. I live in a condo with a shared charger so its inconvenient to charge after every drive because I have to move my car once the charge is complete, therefore I have not been charging every day like Tesla recommends. My current...

Charging setup for my condo garage parking space

One more thought, while the idea of using my own outlet is convenient, its a simple 120V AC outlet so it would charge my car much slower than any other option, but not necessarily a deal breaker since I could charge for multiple days and nights in a row when I'm not driving much (working from...

Charging setup for my condo garage parking space

Not a bad idea, but that means I need to trust valet with my car and I'd persdonally rather just charge it in my parking space which already has an outlet. But for many in the building who don't have an outlet at their parking space, it would probably be a good plan because valet could reclaim...

Charging setup for my condo garage parking space

The garage already has 6 charging spots but those spots are shared between EVs charging and valet pick-up and drop-off (about half of the residents have a private parking spot and the rest have valet spaces). The problem with the community charge spaces is we're forbidden from charging there...

Random ping sound on FSD with steering wheel haptic vibration

I'm sure it has nothing to do with lane departure because when this happens it does not present me with the notification that happens when I actually do depart a lane, plus autopilot is in control, plus it's nowhere near departing a lane. I happens when stationary in stop and go traffic...

Random ping sound on FSD with steering wheel haptic vibration

I’ve noticed that sometimes while driving with FSD I get a random “ping” sound and My steering wheel vibrates (haptic feedback). This is not a lane departure warning nor is it a ”hands on wheel” nag, it just randomly makes a noise and vibrates the wheel but then keeps on driving like usual. I...

    Unable to charge at supercharger

Yep! The service center ended up replacing the high voltage contactor. After that it was as good as new. The service center quoted me as same-day repair, but then actually took a week which was a bit annoying because I didn’t get a loaner and it was hard to plan around but ultimately I got my...

    Can charge but cannot supercharge

The issue is resolved. They ended up replacing only the contractors not the controller and all is good. Took just under a week to get my car back but pretty sure the actual work just took a few hours based on when my car was inside the shop instead of sitting out in their lo lt (monitored via...

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

The solution was replacing the contactor itself, not any hardware connecting to the contactor. Therefore, I think the contactor itself was defective. The Tesla service representative that I talk to when I picked up my car told me that the contactor they put in is better/newer than the contactor...

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

I assume DC since it only affected DC fast charging. Technician notes in the app said: Diagnosed and Replaced Fast Charge HV Battery Power Switch. And the invoice said: ASSEMBLY - FAST CHARGE CONTACTOR - HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY(1095145-01-J)

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

I got my car back today. They only replaced the contactor, not the controller in the end. From what I understand after looking at the service manual, the contactor can be replaced by accessing the battery penthouse which requires removal of a rear seat. So looks like the battery doesn’t need to...

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

Definitely << 5 days. Hmm... wonder if part of the delay was them ordering parts. Wish they would have let me keep my car until they were ready to go if that was the case. EDIT Btw thanks for that service link. Very helpful!

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

So Tesla originally said it was a one-day repair, which turned into 2 days, then they said they needed to keep it over the weekend, today they say they need to keep it until Wednesday. I'm pretty sure they didn't do any actual work on it until today because today the car finally changed its GPS...

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

It’s nice to hear this never happened to you over your 3 cars. It seems to me that either the issue was caused my wear and tear due to high currents (in which case I should expect it to happen again) or it was a one-off manufacturing defect and once its fixed it should be fixed for the life of...

Questions about “fast charge contactor” and “high voltage controller” replacement service to fix supercharging issues

I have a 2023 Model Y with 15k miles on it (10 months old). Last week when charging at a supercharger on a road trip I got a “Charging stopped“ message and could barely get home. I noticed that AC charging still worked so I was able to get into a service center in a few days. Even before my...

    Can charge but cannot supercharge

Charging setup for my condo garage parking space

The building manager told me to go ahead and use the outlet by my car so I did. Then 2 days later I was threatened with a huge fine if I did not stop using it. I stopped using it and put in a formal request with a proposal on how I'd pay for the energy usage. The condo board said they'd think...

    Unable to charge at supercharger

I had an appointment scheduled for next week at the local Tesla Service Center here in Boston. This morning they texted me saying they don't have onsite supercharging for diagnostic purposes. Can charge but cannot supercharge

Exactly the same issue here on my 2023 Model Y Long Range. I was at 15% at a supercharger 100 miles from home and it would not charge. Worked fine the day before. Same symptoms as on this thread - not an issue with the supercharger itself and no amount of rebooting my car or trying different...

    Unable to charge at supercharger

I do have a CCS adapter but there are no convenient CCS charging stations around here. I do use it sometimes on longer road trips when I can find a convenient CCS but my guess is that if DC charging hardware is defective, it won't charge at Superchargers or CCS...

    Unable to charge at supercharger

I was poking around in service mode when I was stuck at the supercharger but I didnt' see any messages. Maybe I didn't look in the right place? Unable to charge at supercharger

Yeah that sounds about right - not going too far. Guess I gotta say goodbye to my ski trip plans this weekend. Interesting theory about the communications between the car and supercharger. I hadn't thought of that. You'd think there would be more descriptive error messages or remote...

    Unable to charge at supercharger

I drive a model Y which is just under a year old. I was out on a ski trip today, 150 miles from home with 15% battery remaining and I stopped at a supercharger like I do every few weeks. Never had an issue with superchargers until now. Everything was fine for the first 5% charge, then my car...

Model Y Long Range constantly showing 315-317 mile range when fully charged.

I understand perfectly why to never use the mile estimate in that way. In winter I drive with 75-80% efficiency most of the time (drive 80 miles and use 100 miles of “Tesla’s system range”). That said, the reason I started this thread is that maximum “Tesla system range” used to be 330 last...

Model Y Long Range constantly showing 315-317 mile range when fully charged.

My general workflow is, charge it up to 80% on Friday, go out of town on the weekend and drive a lot, charge when I'm out if I need to, and aim to return home at around 50%. That way I park it at home and let it sit at 50% most of the week, and charge again at the end of the week and repeat. My...

Model Y Long Range constantly showing 315-317 mile range when fully charged.

Not optimal? I've read plenty of threads on the subject and the consensus seems to be 100% charge on a road trip is not detrimental, (only letting a car sit at 100% is detrimental). Can you provide any links to publications to the contrary? So I've been very careful about charging to 100%...

Model Y Long Range constantly showing 315-317 mile range when fully charged.

First time Tesla owner here, and my car is about 10 months old. Is it normal for my Long Range Model Y to be showing no more than 317 miles (sometimes as low as 315) when charged to 100%? Occasionally I charge to 100% during a long road trip when I know it won't sit at 100% for long and may not...

I finally got it! 2023.44.30.2 is ready to download! How often do you charge to 100%

Any time I have a chance to charge to 100% (don’t have charger at my parking space) and I expect the car to be down to 80% by the time i am home. So for example, lets say I’m away from home, stopping for dinner at a supercharger, and know that it takes 20% charge to get home. That’s when I’d...
