Which Snow-Chain are you using with your Model S?

Thanks. I just ordered a set from tirechainsrus.com.

Which Snow-Chain are you using with your Model S?

I have 2015 Model S 70 with 19" 245 45 R19 tires. Tesla used to sell Trak Sport chains. Now they sell König K45 chains for $420. I see Quick Trak car tire chains from Chains-R-Us for $340 that look exactly like Trak Sport. Does anyone know why Tesla changed suppliers? Anyone use Quick Trak...

Washington Post Tesla Fire hit piece

The most common coolants like ethylene glycol or propylene glycol can burn, but their flash points are in excess of 200ºF, so would not likely catch fire from sparks. Does anyone know what the battery coolant temperature of a Tesla is? I suspect much less than 200ºF.

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

Wow. High rates and arbitrary blackouts. PG&E really does suck. My nephew in Marin is shopping for rooftop PV and PowerWalls so he can beat the high rates and protect himself with backup power during blackouts.

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

You can't switch from tiered rates to time-of-use? Most TOU plans offer much lower middle of night rates, making home charging inexpensive. SCE charges $0.125/kWh from 10pm to 8am, PG&E may have similar rates.

Model Y 40% more efficient than Mustang Mach E

I noted that, but the point was that there is not room for more and more as I inferred from "keep setting the bar higher and higher" in @puma's post.

Tesla submitted a proposal for a heavy duty charging standard (3MW)

Port of Los Angeles container terminal, on the other hand, is famous for long wait times.

No wonder Elon is anxious to get Tesla Semi production ramped up

Your statement is about half right. What comes out of tailpipes or exhaust stacks of ICE vehicles are chemicals that are precursors to photochemical smog, reacting in the presence of sunlight to produce ozone and other smog compounds.

Model Y 40% more efficient than Mustang Mach E

I think you may have missed the point of Munro's presentation. Yes, the 4680 form factor may replace 2170 batteries with 1/5th as many 4680s, but they will still occupy about the same space because they are 5 times bigger. There won't be room to keep packing more and more batteries to keep...

    More anti-Solar shenanigans :(

Many states and local governments have laws making off-Grid living illegal.

Mobile connector button does not open charge port

I'll bet you are holding the connector close to the charge port door when you push the button. Try pointing the connector at the back window when you push the button. On my S, the antenna is in the back window, so when someone told me that, I started pointing at the window and it never fails...

    Tesla Solar Install Issues

That sounds likely. Here in SoCal, SCE has to approve the solar installation plan. They want to ensure that the homeowner is not installing generation capacity exceeding what the prior 12 months usage had been. We had to submit a request for deviation from that limit because there would be...

    Tesla Solar Install Issues

My nephew lives in Marin and wants to add solar panels and maybe PowerWall as backup when PG&E outages come. Please, all of you who have dealt with Tesla Energy in that area, let us know if the local branch does good and timely work. (I wouldn't recommend the branch near me to anyone.)...

    Cabin Heater in Blizzard

So, your car just slid off a lonely, snowy road in to a ditch. It is -20F outside and 50 miles from the nearest town. Do you advocate trying to walk 50 miles, or just shut off the engine and wait?
  17. brucet999

    Cabin Heater in Blizzard

"Heating and AC reduced" I wonder how much? Still enough to be survivable if stranded in -20C weather?
  18. brucet999

    Cabin Heater in Blizzard

I wonder how much difference the Evannex window heat shields made? If it cut heat loss in half, then it might have been 3kW without them. Bjorn was heating probably twice the air volume in his Model X, open to the trunk for sleeping, as there would be in the cabin of a Model 3, so I would...
  19. brucet999

    Cabin Heater in Blizzard

So, at 5.28 kW average and creeping at .53 km/h, might we assume that heating load consumed maybe 5 kw of that? If so, then it would take 14 hours to use 70 kWh at delta T of 50ºC. How big is Model 3 battery? At what SOC does the car shut down cabin heater to conserve battery?
  20. brucet999

    Cabin Heater in Blizzard

Of course that assumes that you need the much to maintain interior temp. I have no data as to the rate of heat loss.
  21. brucet999

    Cabin Heater in Blizzard

On another forum, one of the posters, who lives in Maine, opined that a Model 3 could be "life threatening" because of limited range compared to an ICE vehicle. Further on, he asserted that, if trapped in a heavy snowstorm, an ICE driver could last days, idling the car to keep the cabin heating...

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

I am not saying that anything will be changed. I don't know. But since the windshield is already laminated safety glass, that part would not be changed.
  23. brucet999

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

No, you showed us what laminated glass looks like. Double pane has an air gap between two panes and is used only in architectural applications

    Insurance Tripled after adding Tesla

What are the ages of your household drivers? My neighbor had the same experience as she is moving to Florida and found rates quoted on a 5-year old Model S 70 being more than twice what their Toyota pickup would cost and twice what other Tesla owners in Tampa were paying. Turns out that they...

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

Windshields must be laminated. Most automotive side and rear windows are tempered glass, a very strong single layer that, when struck hard enough, or even just sharply at a corner, will break into thousands of little cubes of glass.

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

Please, people, for the nth time, Model 3 is not getting double pane glass. This is double pane glass: Model 3 will get laminated glass like this: Two pieces of glass with a polymer sandwich holding them together. Makes the glass shatter proof and greatly reduces sound transmission.

    Tesla just screwed me over

But the difference is that you work for a competent solar company.

    Tesla just screwed me over

If that were true, then your roof will collapse from all the screws holding down the sheathing. Honestly, I don't know where Tesla/Solar City finds such stupid people to work for them.

Install day but crew left??? not sure this was worth it.

Almost all concrete tiles for the past 15 years, at least, have been nailed down at the top edge through pre-prepared holes. There used to be some tiles with lugs under the top edge that required battens to be nailed on first, then tiles "hung" on the battens, so only their weight and that of...

It must be an old car/truck to have a bumper that one could tie off to.
  34. brucet999

    Tesla just screwed me over

My mistake. I was thinking of OP's solar panels installation. With solar roof, just like any other roof, safety brackets would have to come off when they got ready to install the ridge tiles, at which point you have guys straddling the ridge to install ridge tiles. Of course, if Solar Roof...

    Tesla just screwed me over

Anchors are mounted at or near the ridge. Safety lines just short enough to prevent a clumsy worker from falling off the edge. It is also possible to mount anchors on the opposite eaves with safety lines running over the ridge for workers on the other side. OP's roof looks like 4:12 or maybe...

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

I understand the Tesla wouldn't use a 48V, but I wondered what applications would do?
  37. brucet999

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

That could work. Never saw one like that. 48VDC - where would a thing like that be used, I wonder?
  38. brucet999

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

What you are missing, I think, is any experience with squirrel cage blowers. The air path never comes close to the motor, whose long shaft has the blower wheel mounted to it.
  39. brucet999

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

"The air path can still be routed around the motor on a squirrel cage type." With about 60% reduction in air flow, perhaps. If their patent claims heat from blower motors, then they must be axial.
  40. brucet999

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

That might work for an in-line fan, but not a squirrel cage blower where the motor is outside the air path.
  41. brucet999

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

I get how the energy provided by the compressor can be used to provide heat, but how can the blower fan make heat?
  42. brucet999

Experience with Heat Pump in Really Cold Weather?

Has anyone used MY heat pump in really cold weather? Anyone know what ambient temperature is too low for HP to work effectively? If there is a backup resistance heater, I'm not sure whether a user could even tell if HP is working.

Blog Tesla Unveils Tabless Battery Cell That Boosts Range by 16%
