Anyone Still Experiencing Charge Current Limiting (40A->30A)?

On this loaner car, what does it report as voltage when at 1 amp and at 40 amps? On a road trip my p85d backed off to 30 amp at a hotel but the voltage drop went from 208 to 193. I think it is reasonable for the car to consider a drop of more than 5% to be potentially risky.

    Firmware 6.1

False. The car needs to have connectivity of some kind to receive an update, but either 3G or Wi-Fi will work. Only if you are in a 3G dead zone will Wi-Fi be necessary. Tesla claims that Wi-Fi allows you to receive the update sooner, but there isn't really any evidence of that being true...

Elon Musk tweets software upgrade will increase P85D range

There is a separate thread. It doesn't look like the update has been pushed to any P85D yet. I would guess that we will get the update last due to the torque sleep feature only applying to us.

My 2 day old P85D suddenly died in the middle of an intersection

In fairness to Tesla, I have had 12V batteries in ICE cars fail suddenly and without warning. I normally put my ICE cars on a trickle charger once a month or so to get them topped up (which is good for AGM and Lead Acid batteries), and I've had it happen twice in the last two years that an AGM...

    Supercharging Efficiency

If you have NO fans normally, and Maximum fans during supercharging, it does say something about efficiency, because the fans require energy, and therefore make the process less efficient. I am saying that the fans are likely the primary source of decreased efficiency. I am not saying that the...

My 2 day old P85D suddenly died in the middle of an intersection

Does not sound similar to me. The other guy had an issue with his front motor, and was able to continue driving with the rear motor only. Later on, after he was home, the car was unable to start, but that was of course much easier for him to deal with as it was mostly a problem for the tow...

    Parking with auto-leveling suspension

The answer is obvious, stop before the curb stop, not over it. If there is no other choice, back-in as the rear end is higher, but only do this if the curb stop is relatively short. Do not park on top of a tall curb stop either way. This is not a unique "problem" for the Tesla. The same...

Thermal Camera Video showing the tire ware and tire heat build up.

If KevinMS is correct about the upgraded parts resulting in the same heat pattern as I see as compared to what was shown in the OP's video, I think it would easily pay for itself in a short amount of time if you have 21" Z rated tires... These pictures are after driving 140 miles ->...

    New regen profile for P85D?

P85D is my first Telsa, but at highway speeds, if I take my foot off the go pedal, I seem to get up to maximum regen immediately (unclear how much this is, but it's past the 60KW line -- perhaps 90KW?) What did you experience in your Signature, and what are you seeing in the P85D?

    Supercharging Efficiency

Supercharging must be somewhat less efficient than charging at home, as the fans never seem to come on when charging at home, and when supercharging at a low SOC (115KW+ charge rate), both the fans on my car and the supercharger cabinet seem to be on overdrive. With regular charging, the heat...

    Sport vs Insane on P85D

I just did a 1300 mile road trip in my P85D and experimented with various settings. As far as I can tell, cruise control @ 65 MPH with AC set to 70F (in florida), with fan speed on low after car has already reached this temperature, uses exactly the same WH/Mile in Sport+Range mode as Insane...

Thermal Camera Video showing the tire ware and tire heat build up.

Looks exactly the same (except not upside down!) on my P85D. I also agree with others here, the flir showing high temps on the inside of the tire is almost certainly showing the excessive wear. Mine does not look that way. I'll post a flir image later on today.

Thermal Camera Video showing the tire ware and tire heat build up.

I skimmed through the manual from the car's screen just now, and while I could find weight loading specifications, and specifications on the rims and tires ... I could not find any alignment specs. The section on Traction Control clearly talks about the settings as they would apply for a...

3 Prong 240v plug, no neutral

There is no guarantee that a ground would be the same guage as the neutral would have been, and this is therefore a big risk for an electrical fire. Considering the Telsa doesn't even use the Neutral, there is no point in making a dangerous adapter cord that connects neutral to ground. Just...

Elon Musk tweets software upgrade will increase P85D range

I agree. I attempted this last week in Florida (so no heat, no turns, no elevation changes, etc), range mode, sport mode, cruise control set at 70MPH (the speed limit) for ~100 miles, and I would say with those conditions, 250-260 miles would be the tops you could expect. Air conditioning was...

P85D vs. ..... can of Mountain Dew (PSA)

I've had a rule since my first 'nice' car, no food in the car, no drinks other than water. The interior of my 2008 Porsche 911 still looked brand new when I traded it in to Tesla two weeks ago.

Thermal Camera Video showing the tire ware and tire heat build up.

I just checked my rear tires on my P85D after a 150 mile drive at high speeds at a supercharger, and once again after 150 miles of high speeds once I arrived at home. The heat on my tires is uniform except for the siping which is hotter, the inner side and outer side are the same temperature...

Dispute with my NEMA 14/50 outlet installer. Help.

Sure, but for 80A he would want 2 gauge anyway, so 6 wouldn't have helped much with that anyway.

Dispute with my NEMA 14/50 outlet installer. Help.

Adding to what others said, 8 will work, but 6 is better. With a heavier gauge wire, you will have less resistive loss/voltage drop, so you will save a little bit of money on your charging long term, and charge slightly faster. It's probably not worth the effort to re-do it just for that reason...

In the ICE world, If the mpg rating promised was less than delivered, the manufacturer would have to reimburse the original owner for the difference in cost. Plus fines direct to the government. I don't think this sort of issue has happened yet in the EV world.

    P85D vs. P85 Efficiency Testing

Don't underestimate the ability of the cooling system to "move" this heat. In florida, after charging for a few hours at 10kw, the only heat signature I see is from the front wheels where the cooling system vents out. The rear seats are cool. (test done at 80F ambient)

Porsche Panamera Turbo S is an excellent comparison for MPG. The cars are very similar in size, shape, number of doors, hatchback, 0-60 times, quarter mile times, etc. Panamera Turbo S is quicker/faster at the high end, P85D is quicker at the low end...

So after a lot of thinking ... I agree with a lot of what has been said on the last few posts. Tesla has a list of unfinished promises (I am listing only the ones I personally care about): P85D Range, P85D Next Gen seats, Chademo, Autopilot (Though this one was specifically stated that there...

    Tracking P85D delivery thread

I mi would be happy with getting the EPA range in realistic mixed driving. The car should also achieve 65mph range as was promised under ideal conditions (70f, flat, cruise control). that said, it is a pleasure to drive around with the performance as it is, but somewhat impractical as far as...

loud buzzing while supercharging, then white smoke in the cabin?

Interesting theory. It's possible with the cooling system working on overtime due to supercharger, the temperature of the coils got so low that fog came out of the hvac vent. Did it smell like smoke?

    "Ticking" issues on new cars

In my P85D I found I could hear this sound if I got in, closed the door, and had the stereo off. The sound is very very slight, but noticeable. I tested this at night in total silence. The car was charging at the time, so I am not sure if that makes a difference, but since it was charging...

    Repairing Crease in Frunk

Just took delivery of my P85D last night. I've driven a Porsche 911 for 8 years which only has a frunk. The frunk on the P85D is VERY difficult to close in comparison to the 911 -- I could feel the hood flexing as I was putting pressure on it, hands about 6 inches apart on either side of the...

    Next generation of battery pack?

I think it's pretty obvious that in a few years, assuming Tesla is still in business (and I don't mean that to point out a problem -- just stating the obvious that the car business is tough and they are still very young), they will have no choice but to eventually release an updated battery pack...

This actually sounds like a very reasonable theory on what's going wrong. If you are correct, and the problem can be resolved, not only will range increase, but performance will increase as well. This would also translate to the motors heating up considerably more than they would otherwise, but...
