    500 mile range? LOL

The purpose of the policy is to prevent flipping/price gouging during the first year as production is constrained. Sell it for less than the purchase price, and I doubt that would be declined. IMO, people make a big deal over this for little reason. The people who are upset, are the low morals...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

On that, I fully agree. You're paying upfront for a product which based on a hope & dream, "might" someday exist. It's just seems nuts to me, that someone would choose to do that.

That's good information to know. Thank you...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

"Scam" is a bit harsh, and I'm no fan of the production Cybertruck. Doesn't (remotely) meet expectations is a more accurate description. Scam would be you paying me for a diamond, and I deliver a lump of coal along with directions on how to use a high temperature press. Tesla is in the business...

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

There's no surprise over the Foundation pricing here. The affluent fanboy base will be milked until that demand runs dry. I can't blame Tesla for that as it makes perfect sense. Production is constrained, so it makes sense to maximize profits. I agree the RWD version will probably be cut to...

    Range extender connector contemplations

It will be an inductive current transfer. No need for a factory installation, or a hard wired connection. Just slide it out, plug it into an outlet to charge, and slide it back in place when it's needed! Just make sure led turns green. /JK (But seriously, I doubt this will actually come to market.)

    Cybertruck launch

Drag racing in a truck is completely irrelevant for anyone considering these vehicles. ANY electric vehicle is going to have plenty of torque and speed for any real world use. The tractor pull, comparing to a base Porsche 911, Hummer, etc makes a good parlor trick to wow some folks, but it has...

What will you do with your Cybertruck reservation?

It's in a drop down location underneath the rear, same as all F-150's and most trucks. I dislike the way Rivian has their spare located, which is inside a compartment inside the bed. You have to unload any gear, then lift the tire out. These are not light tires. The fact that the CT doesn't have...

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

FYI, both Ford and Chevy already do vehicle-to-home. That's not new. For any of these vehicles however, you'd still need to spend additional money on the hardware for the garage to integrate it into the circuit panel. I'd personally skip that step, save the money, and just run important...

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

TFL discussed this on "TFL Talk" today. Their initial impression is it's a large car/truck for electric car people. I'd narrow that further, and say it's limited to Tesla electric car people.
  13. F

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Ford already has the F-150 Lightning Pro, and yes you can buy it today. Unfortunately for me, the 211 max range at 70mph would be risky given the miles I drive in a normal day. The pricing on it however, is just ideal. Plus the interior is still better than the Cybertruck.
  14. F

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Agree completely. To me, spending that kind of money for just a bit more "portable" range is nuts. It would have made a lot more sense to partner with someone and stick a generator in back when needed. That would be under $2,000 and provide a lot more range, a lot less weight, plus some actual...

    Launch is Imminent

The market close for Tesla was down .55% today. I call that pretty flat. Tesla didn't get a bump today, nor did it meaningfully drop. That tells me that the market had already factored in the CT pricing and specs within their expectations. I said some time ago here, that the only way I see this...
  16. F

    Launch is Imminent

My guess is it will sell in the same volume, or a bit better, as the Model X once the initial sales bump is finished next year. The target market isn't that much different IMO. We'll see how this shakes out over the next 12 months.
  17. F

    Launch is Imminent

That's a clear sign he doesn't know what he's talking about, and should be ignored. I'll wait for an unbiased review from TFL, etc.
  18. F

    Launch is Imminent

Using the testing that has already been done on the F-150 Lightning as a guide, going from All-Season street tires to AT tires resulted in a ~30 mile range hit. Both TFL and State Of Charge has tested this. Also going from the normal wheels to a larger wheel, also resulted in a range hit. The...

The idea in addition to the durability, was to eliminate the painting costs. Not only is paint an expensive part of the production process, it also adds quite a bit to the production time.

    Launch is Imminent

I think that's a bit extreme. The company has gone from zero to being profitable and successful. The same has been accomplished with his other companies. One product that doesn't meet expectations doesn't equal a complete failure. I see 3 primary challenges they had with this: 1. The battery...

Which will soon be an irrelevant point, as both Ford's and Chevy's will have access to the Tesla network.

    Launch is Imminent

It's $100 refundable for a spot in line. I think some people are acting way too emotional on what should be a logical decision. When you push the edge you sometimes come up short. I do hope they sell enough to break even on this one. There are still people with the disposable income who will...

    Launch is Imminent

The Silverado will have their Ultium battery. The battery sections are replaceable on a per section basis, and can be mixed with newer chemistry versions as their devevolped. The battery has been designed for long-term parts availability, as lessons were learned from the Volt and Bolt. I...

    Launch is Imminent

My assumption was this is a gas generator for the bed, to feed power into the system when exceeding the battery range. If so, it would be unlimited miles. However $16k for a generator system would be spicy. If I'm wrong and it's just another battery, well I personally think that would be stupid.
  26. F

    Launch is Imminent

The current incentives on the Lightning are really good. I can see Ford picking up some sales from those who were sitting on the fence waiting for this release.
  27. F

    Launch is Imminent

So the synopsis is the range is on par with an F150 Lightning but at a 6-10k premium. The payload, towing, and clearance specs are good. The interior is still a pile of steaming !#$*, with the Lightning beating it by far. I'd take the interior of a Ford Ranger over this. All in all, I don't...

    Launch is Imminent

That's true, especially among those that have physical challenges or are overweight, as it's easier to get in & out. However those people typically get an SUV, think a Chevy Blazer or similar. They get a higher vehicle, but it doesn't have the disadvantages of a longer one.
  29. F

    Launch is Imminent

Again, a lot of speculation without good, solid, data to back it up. A truck handles worse then a sedan, has a worse ride quality, and is a pita to park. Yet people choose to sacrifice all those things to gain the utility they need. It's an individual decision based on a persons current and...

    Launch is Imminent

There's been lots of statements pontificating like this by folks who don't own a truck. Yes, the time spent off-road, towing, and hauling may be a lesser percentage than the over-all use, especially when it's your one vehicle. That however doesn't negate the need for that capability, which is...

Same here, plus worse than rock chips. With the stuff I do the stainless steel exterior would be welcome and ideal. I'm sure the "look at me" crowd will buy it for the attention, but for me this is more about durability and function. Unfortunately I can't get over the interior, controls, &...

    "No Reseller" clause for Cybertruck

One can use all kinds of twisted logic to try and make that case. But at the end of the day the language of the pre-purchase agreement, with all the legal disclaimers for that coveted spot in line is clear. The actual order agreement, when that time comes, can and will have terms within it that...

    The agony of a 10yo Model S 85 with 300 000+ km

Agreed, that's pretty ridiculous. I have owned a lot of really old cars (>10 years old) over the years, and a family member currently drives a 19 year old truck. It has the original engine and transmission with no major repairs. With basic regular maintenance, a gas car can last a really...

    "No Reseller" clause for Cybertruck

No early buyout and no assumption of the lease in the lease agreement. Yes, that solves the early scalper issue a lot more cleanly, and you wouldn't even need to limit the term. A "normal" 36 month term would be fine.

    Ram 1500 Charger - 2025

Yes, the price will be the key factor, and we won't know that number for probably a year. It eliminates any towing range concerns. You're all electric on a normal daily basis, but you also have full capability when towing, driving long distance, using it to power a camper, or as emergency...

    Ram 1500 Charger - 2025

Dodge has announced the Ram 1500 Ramcharger which is slated to be released toward the end of 2024, or within 2025. It will operate like a Chevy Volt. It will provide 145 EV miles, then a V-6 Pentastar engine will kick in to act as a generator supplying electricity for the drive-train from there...

Cybertruck Very Popular Topic On Rivian Forum

Yes, people forget Tesla was on the edge of death more than once. I do hope Rivian survives, as they make a really good EV truck. However in some ways their challenges are greater than Tesla. (1) This high interest rate, high inflation driven by government spending is the just the tip of the...

    Reservation barter

I'm surprised Tesla allows someone to transfer a reservation. I'd think it would be simply a refund of the reservation deposit. I'm pretty much out on the CT due to the interior & feature cuts, unless something surprising is released. So I don't have skin in the game either way. But it seems to...

Cybertruck Very Popular Topic On Rivian Forum

I really like the interior of the Rivian, and I love the "tunnel" storage area. That is what the Cybertruck's interior should look like. Anyone buying one is certainly taking a risk though. Rivian is losing loads of money, and I don't see a certain point where they will break even. If they go...

    Launch is Imminent

Agreed, it's not the overall range that matters but the calculated long-term effective range. Discount 20% for long term battery degradation. That's my actual after 7 years. Up that 10% off the top to 20% as you're on the road charging will be to 80% to keep the charging time reasonable. Now...

    Launch is Imminent

I'll have to disagree with you here. What you're doing is actually perfectly logical. I learned first hand how short life can be long ago. With all the ducks in a row, it makes perfect sense to do what makes you happy. ;)

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Add the Chevy Silverado to the 2024 Supercharger list as well. In terms of range, it's become the new leader for the segment.

    Launch is Imminent

Because some people just like wasting large amounts of money, with little functional benefit. They'll also have to replace it about every 5 years or so, spending the money yet again. If you're going to purposely buy a vehicle capable of taking a beating, it makes little sense to treat it like a...

    Launch is Imminent

I'd personally add the Silverado EV as a compelling addition. It will be available (beyond the existing fleet sales) this fall. Range of the WT4 and WT3 are known, as is pricing of the WT4 @ $80k. Their Ultium battery promises replacment battery availability over the long-term, replacing...

    Launch is Imminent

Agreed. It's been shown pretty consistently that for on-the-road charging, the cost of gas and electric is pretty much the same. The savings come from charging overnight at home. That's why I advise people that if you don't have the ability to charge at home, on your own meter, then an EV is not...
  46. F

    Launch is Imminent

Silverado WT4 pricing is known, and has been discussed by TFL. The WT4 which is that long-range model is $80k. That's still damn high for a work truck. The WT3 will have less range (300 something?), and will be a lower cost. According to the project head, the fleet customers were requesting the...

Battery Change-out Stations— why wouldn’t this work?

    1. All EV batteries are liquid cooled. The system needs to be purged of all air bubbles, which would be introduced during the process. 2. Batteries are heavy, and are now part of the structure. 3. Who is going to be liable when a battery fails... 4. Differences in cell chemistry require...
  48. F

    Launch is Imminent

The Silverado EV WT4 and up has an EPA range of 400 miles, and the WT4 should be a hair under $80k. But I agree there are diminishing returns. Those that tow beyond short distances are simply better off sticking with gas or diesel.
  49. F

    HV replacement mileage ?

All batteries degrade due to time, temperature, and cycle life. The cycle life will vary widely with the level of discharge and charge. The level of discharge is the bigger of the two. You don't want to bring the battery down to zero, or a very low state, as this has a big impact on cycle life...

The Lightning has been out and available, and they are already working on the next soon to be released version 2. You can buy a Lariet or XLT extended battery version for under $80k, making it eligible for the tax credit. The Lightning has Sirius XM, built in Nav, drivers and center screens...
