It would not be hard to force all new internet connection boxes to provide a 2nd low brandwidth network that is for government use and only connects to government approved IP address with a fixed password to access it. It could also be used to enable 999 calls from any smart phone that is...

If it saved the cost of building a new combine cycle gas power station or keeping a coal power station staffed/maintained then it would make sence. Not hard to so, as for example Tesla already have all the logic needed if the batteries could automatically download prices changes. Would also...

I wish Intelligent Go set the export rate to say 18p between 3pm-7pm for people who agree to have imports at these times 3p more expensive then normal day rate and exports rates a little lower at other time. This would make it worthwhile to use clearly excess battery capacity to export between...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

I think the profit per kwh exported have to be significantly more then the cost of importing power between the saving session and start of next cheap rate. Battery cycles don't concern me as it is using the day's charge to help the grid over a short time rarher then using the battery as normal...

But how can it be fully automated for everyone with batteries of all makes? Do we need an automatic additional export payment for responding to frequency drops? Or a single government run service that converts a meter ID into details of the person's dramatic inport/export rates so a battery...

Anyone monitoring what it is doing to voltage at their inverter? Could get interesting if a few homes on same small transformer all use their 3.6kw export rights with starting and stopping synced to the second!

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

It should get it right as it knows a short time later that power costs a lot less to buy. Assume battery starts with 9kwh, then it can safely discharge at 5kw for the 90 minutes with no need to predict what energy the home needs that day.

Then just pretend the buy price is £4.30 as that is what you get for not importing.

Why hot set the export payment per kwh for the times of the saving session based on the total income from exporting a kwh?

No, better to be left with no power in battery until start of next cheap rate period, and not use less battery capacity between end of last cheap rate and start of saving session.

Asda owner EG Group to acquire Tesla’s ultra-fast chargers

I now convinced we will soon see Tesla v4 chargers being enabled for 800v charging. Hopefully EVs drivers who choose a car that don't fit in the space without blocking two chargers will be excluded or made to pay for both spaces.

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Looks like the "payments for helping grid" could be lower for someone that exports everyday between 3pm-7pm them someone who only exports for saving sessions. Will that make Octopus Flex less good for some battery owners compared to IO?

    Powerwall versus Givenergy batteries

At present it is common to have more PV output then is useable within the home at times when the grid is not curtailing renewables
  37. R

    Powerwall versus Givenergy batteries

Not true unless the grid is nearly 100% renewables at the time you are storing as you are stopping other people using that green power along with the battery loses.

Octopus Go and Outgoing Fixed Lite

Its nearly always better for the grid when PV is exported and cars/batteries charged at night. Octopus is now making this behaviour more likely and making life simple by removing the need for PV diverters etc.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Octopus should have made export be the same as import for fixed overnight cheap rate time. They should also have had export a little higher between 3pm-7pm so people who are export limited at peak solar times try to empty batteries at peak grid demand times.
  43. R

Exporting at 15p - Help please

That why I think IO should have a little higher export rate between 3pm-7pm, as discharge at 11pm is not helpful to the grid.
  44. R

Exporting at 15p - Help please

I expecting the difference between daytime and of peak electricity to reduce as more people charge EVs at off peak times. Hence I can't calculate how many years to payback.
  45. R

Exporting at 15p - Help please

Is it as well thermally regulated as a PW to cope with very hot and cold conditions? That depends if the PV is export limited, if so letting the battery discharge before sun and then letting the battery charge when PV near export limit would help.
  46. R

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

My reading was you can have 70c output or a COP of 5 but not both at same time. But with a load compensating thermostats setting the flow temperature it could give a system that works well on most days while still being able to quickly heat the building on a very cold day.
  47. R

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Now with electricity/export prices it seems best to size a battery to cover nearly all winter peak time usage and to export any PV (upto export limit) rather than charge battery from PV. Many hybred inverters don't on their own have a high enough battery charge rate if a home will have heatpump...
  48. R

Exporting at 15p - Help please

Not really, as the Octopus rates now removes the need to predict the PV output, so just need to predict house useage for rest of day (until cheap rate) to decide between export and charge battery.
  49. R

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Other then the PW, batteries hate high heat or very cold. In the UK people have problems with none PW batteries outside with cold but garages seem to be OK. Personaly I would if possible put batteries in garage other then loft. (The PW uses energy to cool/heat the batteries.)

Exporting at 15p - Help please

The simple option is to split the main cable before the powerwall sensor, so the powerwall does not see any electricity the charger uses.
