Tesla Reduces Model Y Delivery Timeline By 4 Weeks, Other Cars By 2-3

Given what the company has accomplished, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an algorithm that optimizes deliveries, balancing profitability with volume. This may mean “unfair” to certain buyers, as the optimized matching of production and orders may not prioritize order date or customer history...

    Model Y Ordered

Hard to tell when the LR RWD Y will start production. However, if there is anything I’ve learned so far, it’s that with Tesla almost anything can change day-by-day. When I ordered, they had already stopped taking RWD orders. If I had the option, I probably would have gone with RWD.

Y not? My experiment. Ordered 3 configs....

I'm impressed (and appreciate) that the OP is willing to spend $100 per order on this experiment.

Model Y deliveries w/20” induction wheels

I ordered at the beginning of February 2020 -- I don't recall the actual day offhand, but in the first week of the month. It was right after they announced 1) production would begin much sooner than anticipated and 2) lowered the pre-orders from a $2,500 deposit to the $100 fee.

Model Y deliveries w/20” induction wheels

Got my VIN for my White / Black / 20" / AP on Friday (5/29). VIN 11XXX. No call or text yet, but I'm thinking delivery is a few weeks out since they have to get it on a boat.

    Model Y Ordered

Paying cash + trade. Might remove the trade and sell privately, but I’ll need to see what they do with the trade-in value they provided back in March. It’s a 4Runner and I’m sure I could get more in a private sale given that every third vehicle on the road seems to be one (the other two being...

    Trade-in value update - 4k drop

Hopefully used car prices (in general, not specific to Tesla) are starting to stabilize. Not sure how flexible Tesla is in regards to trade in values (doesn’t sound like they are very flexible), but for those who received an offer during the valley in wholesale values, it may be worthwhile...

    Hawaii Deliveries

Thanks. According to a sales rep at the Ala Moana store, there was one delivered to the island of Maui before the shelter-in-place orders in March, but otherwise none in Hawaii. I'm sure mine is one of many on the way here. No idea on the delivery date. Don't know if it's on the boat or still...

    Hawaii Deliveries

After spending the last few weeks waiting and reloading, got a surprise tonight. VIN 11XXX assigned! LR AWD / White / Black / 20" Induction / AP No text or email yet. Website updated prompting for final payment. Trade in didn't change, so wondering what happens if I make the "final" payment...

    Now MY Estimate delivery 4-8weeks

I don't get the reasoning behind submitting a new order? So that you can get tired in 4 weeks waiting for your 05/29/20 order? If anything, it seems like adjusting your config to align with whatever they are delivering now would be the way to go. The downside is getting a color / wheels /...

    Model Y Ordered

All I remember are the videos of dealers "killing" the clunkers so they wouldn't end up on the road again. I don't remember what they poured into the engine, but it was sad seeing some pretty nice older vehicles sputter to their death. I didn't have an eligible clunker to trade in, so couldn't...

    Model Y Ordered

If I remember correctly, it was a federal program -- you got a federal tax credit for whatever you paid in sales tax on a new car. I vaguely remember the Hawaii congressional folks had to amend it so that Hawaii would qualify since we technically don't have a sales tax. I ordered a new Toyota...

M3 vs My after the price reduction

Whether it’s $4k or $6k, it really doesn’t matter to me. The Model Y fits my needs better than the Model 3. I know it’s apples and oranges comparing other makes to Tesla, but just for some comparative context. A Camry (sedan) starts at $25k. A Highlander (CUV) starts at $35k. Granted, the base...

    Model Y Ordered

Moving over from this thread in the Model Y forum: Model Y's in Hawaii I’m also waiting for a VIN and delivery date. A delivery specialist reached out to me in early March and told me I should expect delivery by the end of the month, which didn’t happen. I’m also bracing for the revised...

    Model Y's in Hawaii

Bumping an old thread with more details for the Hawaii folks waiting on a Y. Checked with online chat to make sure there was nothing else I needed to do with my account for my Y order. I asked if there had been any deliveries in Hawaii yet and was told no, but there is a Model Y on display at...

    Information on Modifications to reservations

One thing that’s wrong that raises doubt on anything else the Tesla rep stated — production definitely restarted on the Y, as multiple people have posted here (with photos) of their recent deliveries with May production dates. This is just my two cents: there is no way to predict exactly what...

    Trade-in value update - 4k drop

Exactly. Until wholesale rates stabilize and/or start to rebound, Tesla is taking the risk that the trade they just bought will fall even further before they can sell it at auction (and many auctions were or have been closed). I've traded in my last two vehicles and I know I got less (even with...

    Trade-in value update - 4k drop

To answer your other question, the trade in quote is valid for 30 days. I have a 4Runner to either trade or sell -- their initial trade in offer was reasonable, but it's been way over 30 days, so I'm sure the hit will be significant. Might be better for me to sell privately of even see what...

My Insurance Company Thinks My Y is a Performance

It sounds like you were successful getting USAA to treat it as a LR AWD vs. a Performance? That's good news.
  22. M

My Insurance Company Thinks My Y is a Performance

Interesting...so maybe the LR AWDs from 6xxx have the correct identifier? Would be interesting if there are any physical differences between LR AWDs with the Performance VIN designation and those without it.
  23. M

My Insurance Company Thinks My Y is a Performance

When I got quotes from USAA, there was a difference in price between the Performance and non-Performance designations when you selected the vehicle without a VIN. I haven't decided what I'll do when I get the VIN and I have to get a formal quote from USAA -- it sounds like all the LR AWDs...

Model Y deliveries w/20” induction wheels

They reportedly make them in batches. Given the pre-shutdown deliveries of the LR AWD seemed to all have Inductions, I guess it makes sense that they are doing a batch of 19-inchers. I have the same order as the others above - LR AWD / White / Black / 20" / AP.

Different color white on rear hatch vs rear panels?

The same thing happened with my old Venza when the rear bumper had to be replaced after a collision. The bumper definitely looked like a different shade of grey than the rear fender. When I complained, they re-painted it and they were able to match it a lot closer. There were several...

    Estimated Delivery: 8-12 Weeks

Just to clarify, you want everyone else to play hard to get with Tesla so that QC and customer service will improve, but you're going to snap up your Model Y as soon as they say it's ready? :) I think you answered your own question as to why Tesla isn't resorting to massive discounts to move...

    Anyone just receive this email?

Received it too. I also was told to prepare for delivery by March 31, but it didn’t happen. I figured they pushed out an email touch now that the factory appears to be running again.

    Tesla Fremont reopening

“...around 200 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles had rolled off the assembly line.” Rolled off. No brakes. I think someone was trying to be humorous.

    Tesla Fremont reopening

Within my state (Hawaii), we’re also having our share of conflicts between the state and the counties in terms of whose order takes precedence. Too many egos battling it out to show who’s the boss. I’ll let you all have the first ones off the line. I’m sure they are a bit rusty coming back...

Ugh....I want to return my Y...

My two cents — the lower the price of the vehicle, the better the manufacturer has to be at delivering it with minimal defects. There is very little margin to play with at the low end — having to pay to repaint body panels or expend hours of warranty labor to swap out parts will destroy any...

    Tesla Fremont reopening

Not sure if you were trying to be humorous, but that's pretty rude. I'm not a fan of "do you know who I am?" kind of statements, but I feel utmost respect (and a little bit of sympathy) for those in leadership positions trying to make decisions and guide their organizations through the pandemic...

    Tesla Fremont reopening

It would be nice if egos got put on the side and these "leaders" (county, state, and corporate) actually talked to each other and agreed on a way to move forward, whether it's the timing of reopening and establishing plans and protocols. I'd hate to be a Tesla employee with all the mixed...

Traditionally, when do you get assigned a VIN?

Take this with a grain of salt, as this will be my first Tesla and it’s unclear whether their processes vary by state, by region, or at the whim of the delivery team(s). I’m still pending a VIN. I was told I would be assigned a VIN when my local delivery team matches me to a vehicle after it...

Driver side window closed by itself before entry - trim damage

Just out of curiosity, as I don’t own a Tesla (yet). Is there a place where these bugs like this one can be reported to Tesla, other than making a service appointment? I’m assuming scheduling a service appointment effectively does that, where they can track reported problems to spot trends.

Model Y Seatbelt Guides in Rear Seats

I went outside to my 4Runner because I assumed it had a guide or a clip to prevent the seatbelt from rattling. No guide, no clip. Looks just like the photos of the Model Y. The only difference is that the position of the belt is a little higher, so the belt buckle rests on the seat, which is...

Between a Model Y and a Subaru Outback

I’m neither a finance nor a leasing expert, but my thoughts, as I’m a little skeptical that this “saves” you money: - If you don’t change anything, over the next 20 months you will pay $7,720 including your dispo fee for use of the Subaru over those 20 months. After that, you will owe nothing...

    Politics - Quarantine Thread

Actually, I could see Tesla considering opening a factory there — using the factory investment as leverage for opening up the state for direct sales.

    Politics - Quarantine Thread

Texas, where Tesla has been unable to convince the state to allow them to sell cars directly to consumers? Where you have to pay in full for the car before they’ll ship it you?

Ugh....I want to return my Y...

If you picked up at the end of March, you're well past the 7 day return period. I'm guessing your options are: 1) Figure out a way to be happy with your Y. 2a) Trade it in. Would be interesting to see how much they give you for it. 2b) Find someone who really wants a Y (warts and all) and...

    First Accident in new Y!

Also unlikely a warranty would cover impact damage — I know some dealers (non-Tesla) sell an insurance package for tire and wheel damage.
  42. M

    First Accident in new Y!

I don’t think the 19 or 20 inch wheels/tires would survive a hit at 30 MPH into a curb. To the OP, very sorry to see it too. If you had to find a bright side, no injuries, no body damage, and maybe the rim was spared?

Between a Model Y and a Subaru Outback

Then isn’t this debate rather moot for another year or so? The Model Y can be deemed superior, or vice versa, but it really doesn’t matter for you in the near term unless you are willing to break your lease (or replace your other car).

    Front license plate holder.

The Ottosteer for the Model 3 doesn’t work on the Y. I contacted them a couple weeks ago and they said they are still working on a Model Y specific version, but no ETA. Same here (SnapPlate vs. Ottosteer), but more because I like the way the OEM mount looks. The SnapPlate creator mentioned in...

Between a Model Y and a Subaru Outback

I guess the big question is whether you can get out of the lease with a relatively small (or no) penalty. It sounds like the answer is yes for the Outback, based on the offer you received from Subaru. I've never had a lease, so I have no idea what the fine print looks like, but I'd suspect...

Between a Model Y and a Subaru Outback

You seem to have it pretty well thought out. There’s a certain portion of the purchasing decision that’s objective and a portion that’s subjective. Each person is a little different. The only question I had was that your lease currently runs until January 2022. Lots can change between now and...

Tesla changed the SR+ door plate soft material to hard plastic recently?

I read that the Model Y door panels are the same -- soft touch on the top, hard plastic on the bottom. Might be a lemonade-out-of-lemons situation, but that's an area that I sometimes scuff (not sure how or with what), so having a more durable hard-touch plastic is probably preferable to me...

    Youtube losers

Agreed. I didn't see anything in that video that hasn't been mentioned somewhere in this forum. While I'm not a fan of click-bait videos (and there's a lot of Tesla-related click-bait on YouTube), the two brothers that run that channel personally own a Model 3, so I find them a little more...

It puzzles me why Tesla cannot get quality control right?

I think the priority has been, and will continue to be in the near-term, shipping and delivering as many cars as possible. That’s the metric investors are looking for, that’s the number the media picks up. No one is asking (or cares) what their average warranty costs per vehicle are or how...
