    Buyback Guarantee Revisited

I guarantee you the car will be worth more on the used market than in any trade-in deal or buyback promise pricing. The only reason it wouldn't be is if the car becomes an orphan (i.e. Tesla goes under) but then the buyback guarantee goes away anyhow.

    Paint safe snow removal?

Having lived in Colorado for 25 years I've done my share of snow removal from cars - but I've scratched cars before too. I've even scratched windshields. Any devices you guys keep in your Teslas or other nice cars to remove snow without damaging the car?

    10 year cost of ownership

Fair enough, call it $80k net after selling the car. My Lexus RX400h is 8 year old and deducting resale value the total cost including gas has been $39k. Big difference, of course they're different animals but the Lexus was a pretty high tech expensive car when new!

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

The very specific maintenance, as I detailed in the original post, is rotate tires, bring to Tesla, replace brake fluid, and replace battery coolant. What exactly are you planning on doing yourself? You simply can't.

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

You trust an email from a former Tesla employee over specific unambiguous verbiage in your ESA contract?

    10 year cost of ownership

Just running some numbers on what I expect to spend on this car over 10 years that I'm planning on keeping it. $90,720 Purchase price $03,628 4% sales tax -$7,500 Federal Tax Credit -$6,000 Colorado Tax Credit $03,800 8 years of Tesla Service $04,000 4 year ESA Extended warranty $...

Please don't go off on a tangent on future repairs. I'm talking about hardware upgrades done to cars thus far. Thanks!

Curious - what hardware upgrades have they performed on the Model S thus far?

Possibly, but please don't go off on a tangent on future repairs. I'm talking about hardware upgrades done to cars thus far. Thanks! :)

Curious - what hardware upgrades have they performed on the Model S thus far?

Thanks for the input - anything else? Seems like other than the door handles, not much 'important' stuff has been upgraded in the last few years.

Curious - what hardware upgrades have they performed on the Model S thus far?

We know about the new features they can't and won't retrofit (auto pilot, AWD, power charging port door, etc) but I'm curious what hardware upgrades have they provided for free for cars on the service plan / under warranty in the last two years? I know about the titanium plate that got all the...

To "D" or not to "D"

Fair enough, but know that electric motors have been around for about 1834 so it's not a new technology. Stresses and lifespan of motors is well known and I'm certain accounted for with a monstrously vast margin on these cars.
  13. E

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

No, I don't. How many hardware upgrades have there been and how often? This is a genuine question. I'm only familiar with the titanium plate. I didn't know that either - how many firmware updates have required bringing the car in? I appreciate your input and unique insight. I was saying...

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

I guess I'm not explaining myself. I don't want to bring the car in every year for $600. I want to follow the schedule (every 2 yrs) they outline for fluid replacements. I want to take care of the car, do what's needed, but not be bound to bring the car in every 12 mos/12,500 miles. If...
  15. E

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

Amped - except that it's explicit in the servicing recommendations to bring it in to Tesla every year or 12,500 miles whichever comes first. So whichever way you read it, it's saying that you need to bring it in for the ESA to be valid. - - - Updated - - - I'll gladly do everything it calls...

Getting the 60D versus the 85D

    I don't think they're phasing out 60 packs - I think they're stockpiling them for the Model X.
  17. E

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

AR - I think that's great but it is seemingly a very different issue than what I'm raising here. I'm talking about the ESA Extended Warranty - it contains this verbiage: "To maintain the validity of this Vehicle ESA, You must follow correct operations procedures and have Your Vehicle serviced...

To "D" or not to "D"

I think in ICE cars AWD is costly for the EPA rating of fuel economy because it adds so much weight - transfer case(s), driveshaft(s), etc. In the Tesla as you mentioned there's a small motor up front and some electrical connections made to it.
  19. E

To "D" or not to "D"

And if one bought a Tata Nano and invested the remainder in TSLA... Mind blown.
  20. E

To "D" or not to "D"

I live in Colorado and have never put snow tires on a car - that includes FWD and 4WD and AWD. RWD absolutely needs them if there's snow on the ground or you don't move. But with anything else, All-Season work fine even with snow. That's a savings of a couple grand on tires.
  21. E

To "D" or not to "D"

You're ill-informed. Quoting http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=18 "Some vehicle manufacturers recommend that all tires maintain the same rolling radius and circumference, while others suggest that all tire circumferences remain within 1/4- to 1/2-inch of each other...
  22. E

To "D" or not to "D"

If I weren't in snow country, I'd buy a RWD lightly used right now at a great price. Go for that. Maybe you'll end up with a P85 or P85+ for what you were expecting to pay for the S85D.

Defective windshield, TSBs & updates are NOT covered out of warranty.

I doubt even Tesla knows, and it would vary per update likely.
  24. E

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

That's the factory warranty, I'm only talking about the ESA extended warranty. It's seemingly void unless you also pay for Tesla service at another $2k.

Nope, no evidence of it. And I don't see it coming anytime soon either, I wish people would stop posting that in every other thread as if it were even a rumor much less gospel :) The mfr tax credits are changing to be rated against range and not kWh so why they'd put more cells into a pack I...

Defective windshield, TSBs & updates are NOT covered out of warranty.

Two things: 1) Vehicle purchase contracts are very clear. Nothing is promised other than what's specifically in writing in your purchase contract and written guarantees and warranties. Nothing else is implied. You're basically agreeing that Tesla could have said A B C D E F G but unless it's...

Defective windshield, TSBs & updates are NOT covered out of warranty.

The service plan provides free software updates and necessary or service related hardware upgrades. It's nebulous what would qualify for that, perhaps only the titanium plate thus far would have fit that criteria if you were out of warranty? I admit my ignorance though and I didn't know about...

    Nuclear power

    Nuclear power

Fair enough - but we're looking at thousands of reactor-years and 1 accident. Doesn't that prove the risks are negligible?
  37. E

Defective windshield, TSBs & updates are NOT covered out of warranty.

TSB's are never free out of warranty. They're basically "if someone complains about X, we know we can fix it by doing Y". It's not a recall. The updates, well that's a grey area. I can see them doing some if you're out of warranty but bringing it in for service. But why would you expect...

Existing orders of discontinued options will NOT proceed - you MUST change your order

I had originally ordered a Brown 60D so I'd be doubly screwed and pissed right now had I not upgraded to the Brown 85D. I spoke with a manager at Tesla corporate tonight and when I said that if they came out with new colors anywhere near me getting my car I'd be seriously pissed off, his answer...

    Paint color history?

Lamenting the loss of brown, the Tesla agent told me that the dark grey I was switching too was a pretty new color. So I'm curious, what colors have been available and when over the life of the Model S? I'm wondering if more colors could be just around the corner. Thanks.

Existing orders of discontinued options will NOT proceed - you MUST change your order

Well I got the bad news phone call - you cannot keep your existing order for colors or batteries or drives that are no longer available as of two days ago. So, if you have a 60D on order, no go. A 60D or 85D in brown or green, no go. What they are offering is a downgrade to a RWD model, or...

    Missing renders on "design" page

It's obvious isn't it? They're making a major change and everyone with a car delivered before Jan 2015 will be furious when they find out that the screen has been adjusted 0.12mm to the left.
