Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Hard to see that 'event' as anything but disappointing. I'm sure the product will prove itself to be great over time, but this will go down as a very lackluster launch compared to the hype leading up to it. It basically just pips the Rivian R1T in range and price - a little cheaper and a little...

I just came here to post that! The delivery event is cool and all, but that video will be the one for the real car nerds. Awesome to see Sandy in conversation with Drew and Franz. Also a great sign to see the exposed chassis. I'm sure we will be getting a good answer about how much of an...

What technology or capability does Rivian have that Tesla does not? Why would Tesla want the complexity of integrating a new company with significant challenges and no unique advantages?

Given how BMW's attempt to charge monthly fees for hardware features blew up in their faces and was eventually walked back, I highly doubt Tesla would do the same. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bmw-backtracks-automaker-will-no-longer-charge-monthly-fee-for-heated-seats-145706845.html

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think Tesla/Elon coming out against EV mandates and hopefully within a few years against subsidies would send the right message. I completely sympathize with those that are reflexively skeptical of anything the government attempts to mandate. I also sympathize with those angry that their...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

A dual-motor Max battery Rivian R1T is $100,000, so a $100,000 tri-motor big battery CT is not at all out of line with the market. That said, I think it's extremely unlikely that Tesla is calling up reservation holders and divulging highly sought-after info like price a month before the...

This certainly makes me feel better about my recent TSLA losses! FYI, Tesla still has $184 million worth of Bitcoin on its balance sheet. That's calculated from Early 2021 prices, which were around $30k.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I hope Tesla puts more effort into maximizing steering feel and dialing in traction control/torque vectoring that relay a sense of control and excitement to the driver. Raw numbers are important but Tesla's weak point is always in 'driver involvement' ie, feeling too much like a video game. I...

Sorry, I have never seen a Tesla ad anywhere and I’m in a prime demographic in a west coast city. I’ve also never met anyone who is not a total nerd like me who is aware of the value argument for Tesla. And I don’t buy the “they’re already selling every car they make” argument either. If that...

WOW! We’ve seen a dozen or so release candidate Cybertrucks in the wild so far, but this is clearly HUNDREDS of castings. Assuming these are indeed CT castings and not for MY, this confirms that CT is entering production. Huge news!

Exactly. The big 3 may be in for bankruptcy and humiliation but they are too big and politically important to simply be allowed to die. Politicians of both parties will bail them out with taxpayer money over and over again.

True, could just be the way the image looks. Regardless it confirms that the robotaxi likely only seats 2 or 3 people. It does look like there is a dash for human driver controls, but a 2-seat compact doesn't seem like it would have a lot of takers.

Somebody needs to hold Elon to his promise to try advertising. I guarantee if you polled Americans about how much a 3/Y cost they would be high by at least $10k, not even including IRA rebates (which they are also likely not aware of.) Probably the most frustrating thing about owning TSLA is...

It’s funny seeing the Tesla community’s reaction, talking about screens and cameras and RGB lights. I want to know if it has gigacastings and motor/battery updates. That is what will drive cost savings or lack thereof and my own upgrade desire.

My teen son wants a new Civic/Corolla Hybrid but I want him to get a new/used RWD 3 ~ same price.

Hard to convince someone that X is a better value than Y if you're paying for it either way. This sounds like a parenting question more than a car question. :) If he's so worried about being bullied, may I recommend a gym membership or a martial arts class instead of a car?

For those unaware, the YouTuber here MKBHD is one of the biggest stars on YouTube, his videos regularly get many millions of views. Great exposure here. Coincidentally I just got an email from Tesla encouraging me to get a solar roof. Maybe the rumors of the death of that business have been...

Would you have bought a Tesla if there was $0 tax incentive?

Hard to answer because in the absence of the tax rebate I'm sure Tesla's prices would be several thousand lower. IE, a Model 3 would start at $35k instead of $40k. But I admit it was the $10,000 in combined Oregon and Federal incentives that really grabbed my attention and ultimately led to my...

You all have about talked me out of a Tesla altogether...

As others have said, the golden rule of the internet is that 90% of the negativity comes from 10% of the grumpiest people. So always consider that the negativity you see is just the tip of an iceberg of overwhelmingly satisfied customers. A new BMW will be a very nice car but it will be in the...

I would love to see a Tesla van. Could easily be offered as a fleet/work van and as a consumer minivan. Even here in the US you’re seeing more and more Transits and Sprinters for work and play. I feel like Rivian will beat them to it though, since they already have the Amazon van.

I think I have the wrong Tesla and I kinda hate it, lol

My previous cars were a Miata, a Civic Si, and an E55 AMG, so I am very glad I got a Model 3. As others have said, I do have moments where I could use the extra utility of the Y, but those are rare, and 95% of the time I get to enjoy the driving dynamics of my 3. I just got back from a big road...

    Why 42 PSI ?

Lucid recommends 49psi for 19”s, so I would say it’s fair to assume that the higher pressures you’re running the better your efficiency, within reason. Of course the lucid has air suspension to make up for those rock hard tires. I will continue running 40 for comfort.

    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

Interesting idea about a RWD US model Y. I did a little checking and in Germany the RWD is 18.4% cheaper, Canada is 15.4% cheaper and Australia is 16.6% cheaper. These are in comparison to the Long-range dual-motor since the standard range dual motor seems to be unique to the US. So with a...

Ross Gerber shows Dan O'Dowd that FSD is much safer than a human

That screen capture that Gerber himself posted shows he’s clearly within ten feet of a stop sign and the speedometer says 35. That ain’t good no matter how you slice it. I’m generally optimistic about FSDb but this was undeniably a big embarrassing failure.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Six months ago, I was an EV skeptic who thought Teslas were city-bound toys for wealthy coastal liberals. Four months ago, I found out my 2022 Honda Civic was worth more than I paid for it new, so I started thinking about riding the wave and getting a new car for essentially free. Noticing how...

Does buying FSD include robotaxi (when it becomes capable)?

Nobody knows how or when or if Robotaxi will work. The only safe thing to assume about using your car as a Robotaxi is that you won't be able to.
