Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

It wasn't a joke nor was it meant to be a pun. Lighten up.

    Cadillac ELR (Converj)

    I wouldn't have.

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

This was the only point I was trying to make. It looks like I assumed too much from the part number listed, but it's still worth checking. It's not a matter of whether or not the difference is great or small, but whether or not it was replaced with an inferior part, which already seems to be...

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

It looks like they gave you an A pack as well. Was your previous pack an A pack? If you don't know, when was your car manufactured? If you had a B pack or higher, the A pack will supercharge more slowly than your old pack, and is additional reason for complaint.

    Firmware 5.9

Is this really an issue? It's probably just gotten better about using line power instead of battery power, and is using the line power since the onboard equipment is still running.

    Firmware 5.9

You should be able to now with 5.9. The browser now allows for location services and is compatible with Plugshare's Tesla-specific site.

    Tesla Supercharger network

Have you written to the supercharger team? They're pretty receptive. If you help them find a place, it'd help your chances greatly. The supercharger map isn't set in stone, as we've seen from several that were never on the map suddenly popping up, and some disappearing.

    Firmware 5.9

Weird. How has it gotten in the way?
  9. G

    Firmware 5.9

No issues with hill hold and I stopped using creep within about the first 5 minutes after leaving the factory.

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

Maybe this is one of the good things about the unofficial apps. My windows phone app seems to get updated every week or two with optimizations and features the official apps don't have.

It appears to be an Android thing. I tried it with an S4 I have lying around and it read mi/hr no matter what I set the car to. Weird.

I doubt anybody with a Tesla is starving. ;)

I have an android phone at home sitting around. I'll try it out after work today if nobody else beats me to it.

Supercharger - San Juan Capistrano, CA (7 V2 stalls)

Changing topics, I was really hoping the Inland Empire one would be going in closer to the Cajon Pass, like in San Bernardino or Ontario. I live in the mountains and it takes me about 65 miles of range to cover the last 25 or so miles of driving to get home. When I run errands in LA, it'd be...

Your outlet at your house doesn't already do that?

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I don't think the app gets to choose. It's just reading the REST data. My unofficial Windows Phone app shows whatever I have selected in the car.

    Decreasing rated range.

It seems to me that the only way past driving affects rated range is the accuracy of the measurement. This might be where some of the confusion comes in. People that regularly use the full range of the battery seem to have higher readings. I was away from home for 3 months and my range at...

It's right in the lobby there. One of those 2 screens was probably it. They might not have it up on weekends.
  19. G

    Decreasing rated range.

Same here. I live in the mountains, too, so I don't even get full regen leaving my house (cold temps in the morning and 90% charge) and I still manage sub 300's pretty easily. If I lived somewhere where I'd be discharging leaving my house instead of charging, I'd do even better. Nobody should...

Yep, I had to do the same things. Tesla should take care of you.

    Cadillac ELR (Converj)

To add further insult, Tesla's listed performance numbers are very conservative. The S60 has been consistently run from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds by DragTimes. They, and other review publications, have also run the P85 to 60 in 3.9 seconds. That makes the gap even larger. Keep in mind, as well...

The sound is completely normal. It's just the car cooling the battery. 120kW creates a lot of heat. I haven't experienced the second one at all. I've never tried to roll the windows down while at the supercharger though. I just use the A/C since I'm plugged in anyway and the car is already...
  23. G

    Decreasing rated range.

The evidence so far doesn't seem to back that up. I think the real damage comes from the car sitting in either of the aforementioned states for long periods. I really don't think charging to 100% and starting your journey shortly after or arriving at home with 5 miles and then charging...

    Interesting night at the Supercharger

They were always designed to enable road trips. For short distances, you can charge at home.
  25. G

    Decreasing rated range.

And losing 21 miles would be 8% degradation, not 10%. :)
  26. G

    Decreasing rated range.

But the rated miles are just as consistent as they're based on a fixed Wh/mi and don't change based on past driving.

I'm with you. I appreciate RandyS' insight into the issue, and believe what he is saying. It just seems like the goal posts keep getting moved on us.

    Tesla Supercharger network

Weird. I've shown 105kW at about the same mileage as the photo gg_got_a_tesla posted. It had added maybe 10-15 miles to what I had (probably 25 miles or so remaining at the start of the charge) before it ramped up to the peak of 105kW. I don't have photo evidence, unfortunately. This was at...
  30. G

    Decreasing rated range.

Yep. I think it'd just invite more problems as people unfamiliar with how batteries work would be asking why it doesn't show 85kWh or 60kWh on a full charge, or on the other end why it still shows X amount of kWh but they're stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery. Miles is the...

  32. G

    Interesting night at the Supercharger

The difference between the two is that rated range has nothing to do with how you're driving. ICE cars that tell you how many miles you have left are giving that information based on the current rate of consumption or some average of it over the last several miles (BMW averages the last 18...

    Interesting night at the Supercharger

Personally, I think it has way more to do with marketing than California-centricity. I wouldn't want to show how much the range decreases when you go 85 either. We all know Tesla has a history of selecting stats that make their product look best, but then so do most other companies.

Some questions about purchasing and keeping MS

I agree. While it isn't uncommon to see a car from the 80's, I'd seriously doubt there's more than 15-20% of the cars built 25 years ago still on the road.

    Interesting night at the Supercharger

Good points all around, especially about legislating manners. I do think Tesla could do well to explain better how charging works so people don't waste as much time. As for your charging to 100% for safety, check out http://evtripper.com. It's a great tool and will save you a lot of time in...

Some questions about purchasing and keeping MS

-Technically, rust is iron oxide. The Model S body is aluminum and contains no iron, so it cannot rust. That said, aluminum still corrodes from salt. -I think the motor life is all theoretical for now, but electric motors really last forever. It's one of the benefits of having just one moving...

I don't think it's without your permission/agreement though. Some people have been refusing the 5.8 update specifically for that reason. Personally, I'm glad my car actually improves over time.

Charging at Campgrounds and RV Parks

This seems a bit out of nowhere. What does whether or not the guy can afford a Tesla have anything to do with it? Does that give a person license to be rude to a potential customer? Most of the people here were actually pointing out that most RV park operators are more than happy to let you...

Ever use evtripper.com? You can account for almost everything with it (speed, wind, temperature, etc.) and leave some room to spare to account for roadblocks and the like. As for the 100% charge, if you were starting from home and are worried about making it to the first SC, I'd assume you'd...
