Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

See, that's been a frustration point for me. When Tesla first rolled out the TuneIn integration, all iHeartMedia and Entercom stations were ON TuneIn. When iHeartMedia came out with iHeartRadio several years ago, they discontinued support for TuneIn. From there, I think it was a year and a...

    AP2 MCU1 FSD Dashcam Videos

@EV-Fixme charges $500 to replace it... which is much less than the $1800 for a "new" (outdated/refurb) MCU1.

    AP2 MCU1 FSD Dashcam Videos

I would definitely imagine it would. I'm waiting on my eMMC replacement to come back, and hopefully that will also do the trick.

    2014 Model S 85 (Pre-Autopilot) $25,000 ~199,000 miles

Sidenote recommendation for you, exterior looks great, but a $100 interior detail would probably go a long way in selling the car.... ;) You'd recoup that easily.

    AP2 MCU1 FSD Dashcam Videos

Yeah, nothing really that you can do other than live with it. I'll report back once my eMMC is replaced and let you know if that performance boost helps to fix the stuttering of the dashcam.

    AP2 MCU1 FSD Dashcam Videos

Mine is a 3/2017 build. That is indeed the camera housing bottom, and I had my cameras adjusted a couple years ago, so I guess that is what it is? The video pixelation/choppiness is exactly how it came from the thumb drive. I am using the fastest thumb drive that is recommended by...

    AP2 MCU1 FSD Dashcam Videos

I've copied over some of the Dashcam videos for everybody to see. - This one is a good chuckle... if you're 12.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I'm definitely a data point for FSD computer upgrade hastening the MCU1 eMMC failing. Mine hadn't failed, but boy, it sure slowed down significantly and began crashing. I know it was on the fritz before the upgrade because it was literally taking 3-5 minutes just to reboot my MCU, and when...

    New Software Batch Feature Coming

I dunno... What happens when your car is in "Batch 27" and you want to be moved up into "Batch 3" and you end up calling and harassing them. I don't see that idea lasting very long. It would make more sense to do it like nearly every other software company on the planet and just roll it out...

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

    I definitely will.

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

The instrument cluster (binnacle) with an MCU1 is a full computer that talks to the MCU1. On the MCU2, it is just a secondary display. So it definitely needs to be replaced as part of the kit.

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Yep - that was what I was referring back to. Sorry @croman, I thought it was you that reported that, didn't realize it was @whitex . Anyway, I pulled my Tegra last night and am overnighting it today to @EV-Fixme . I'm looking forward to seeing the results! With 78,000 miles on the...

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Very interesting. Yeah I'm researching @EV-Fixme right now. I think I'm going to take it apart today and send it in... I'm out of warranty and pretty comfortable taking apart my car and electronics in general. I think it was your write-up who said that you were surprised at how fast the MCU1...

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Yeah, I may try that again also. I did one 6 months ago (pre-FSD computer) and it was like a different car. UI was actually similar to new. Now it's just straight crap. How long since you factory reset it has it been running well?

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Mine has gotten so laggy that yesterday while driving the entire thing crashed. Went black and took about 15 minutes for the "T" to come back on and it eventually came back up. I'm wondering if my eMMC is starting to go from all of the updating....
  16. ahkahn

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Yes, I had this exact same issue. It's a configuration setting that they forgot to switch. They can fix it remotely.

Yeah Carvana had a M3 LR marketed as a Performance... it clearly wasn't.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I did, but then turned it off and unplugged the USB, and it didn't seem to make a difference.

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Has anyone else noticed if the MCU1 has become really laggy since the upgrade? Mine seems to be.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Interesting. My MCU1, I have noticed, has been SUPER laggy (moreso than usual) with the FSD computer upgrade.

    WTB - Model S | 2016.5 or 2017

Funny, I'm in Chicago and am toying with the idea of selling mine: Thinking about selling 2017 90D, FSD... Price? 2017 90D w/FSD just upgraded to AP3.

It's official! Tesla website says HW2.0 cars "scheduling now" for MCU2 upgrade!

I'm not 100% sure whether or not they can fix it remotely, so it's definitely worth a shot. As far as compensation, it's a free upgrade anyway, so I'm not sure you've got much leg to stand on with compensation... maybe a cup of coffee while you wait?!?

Are 90 batteries limited on supercharging like the 85

    Yeah, that's pretty typical for a 75.

Wow that's impressive. When did you actually get it?

It's official! Tesla website says HW2.0 cars "scheduling now" for MCU2 upgrade!

Same exact thing happened to my car. I messaged @verygreen about it... and he confirmed what the service center ended up finding out from engineering. It was a config error. They'll probably need to take it back in - I don't think they can reload it remotely. Here is a screenshot of the...

Yep - that's pretty much how mine works, as well. 4200 miles on a 2017?!?! Wow... was it in a museum?!?!

Mine routinely gets 145k on a Supercharger. They're not all limited... I think only the early battery versions.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tramlined"?

Trying Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus II Tires

I've got the Cinturato P7's and I love them. About 45,000 miles on them, and easily have another 30,000 left.

Yeah, they calibrated pretty quickly. I'd guess 10 miles and about 15-20 minutes.
  35. ahkahn

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

OK, mine is finished. Picked it up, and had to calibrate. Drove until it calibrated, and then was able to turn on Autopilot. It does not show the traffic cones or garbage cans, but does seem to show more cars, and seems to be smoother on the instrument cluster. The Autopilot seemed a little...

Thinking about selling 2017 90D, FSD... Price?

Yeah, so I do not have the extended warranty. I'm not sure that we can compare the discount for the free Supercharging though, since that isn't something that is coming on the new vehicles or used ones, is it?
  39. ahkahn

    I appreciate your insight!

Thinking about selling 2017 90D, FSD... Price?

Yeah, that one isn't far off of mine. In fact, only a few older than my VIN. I'm 189xxx. So, would you think 50k?
  41. ahkahn

Thinking about selling 2017 90D, FSD... Price?

So I'm thinking about upgrading my S into either a new Raven S or Y Performance. I've done some research, but it's a little tough since I'm seeing pricing all over the board. I'm seeing 2016 90D's with 45,000 miles going in the 56-57k range, so I'm thinking low 50's on this one. Car is in...

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Pretty sure we go to the same service center. My wife's 3 was in for the FSD upgrade and I asked them about doing my AP2/MCU1 upgrade. They said, "sure, keep the loaner and bring it back when you pick up the 3". I did that... Once they completed the FSD upgrade on my MCU1 S, I picked it up...

Death rattle fix estimate cost for a 2020 LR?

My car is in service right now. I have a rattle, but totally different issue. They called me and said it would be $380 to diagnose the rattle - $175, and the rest for shop time. After putting up a huge stink and calling them crazy to want to charge me to look at a car under warranty, I worked...

Best auto insurance option for Illinois Tesla MS owner?

I'm in Illinois, and I have used several insurance brokers. Unfortunately, many carriers will rate the broker up - it's cheaper to go direct. I sent the direct quote to my main broker, and he wasn't surprised. It happens. Progressive is who I am currently with, however they have literally...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

The cell phone network and Internet are not that fragile. Earthquakes don't break the system, the people shut calling off to keep them from getting overloaded so that they can be used for first responders. If you're that worried about getting caught in your car during the apocalypse, buy a...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

So on this topic, I was bitching to the SC about how slow my MCU1 has become, and I thought something was very odd because the OLDER loaner that I had received had a MUCH faster MCU (yes, it was also an MCU1). I assumed mine was beginning to fail. The nice service writer lady told me to do a...

Alternative to FM with retrofitted MCU2

TuneIn was #1 10 years ago (I subscribed as a premium user), but when iHeart Media pulled their stations to push their own app, iHeartRadio, and Entercom pulled their stations off to move them to Radio.com, TuneIn sucks. I've been saying for years that Tesla needs to add iHeartRadio and...
