    Not so obvious benefits

No need to have an awareness of gas prices or use Gas Buddy to find good prices...unless you have other ICE cars. And a big one for me (I keep cars a long time): No smog tests!

    Tesla Tire Kit worth it?

The current Goodyears have a foam liner to reduce road noise. This makes spraying in the goo even more problematic for tire repair.

    Potential update suggestions

At some point (but not yet), you reach diminishing returns on range and other factors become more important. Think faster charging, more charger availability, lower vehicle cost, size, weight, et al. Future battery (and other) technologies and manufacturing efficiencies will move us there. IMO...

How does an Electric Car work ?

Continuing on in this highly relevant Tesla topic... "Accelerator" is a nice generic term for what the pedal does. Except, in an EV with regenerative braking, it's also a decelerator. Oops. And maybe a brake pedal should be called a decelerator? I agree with your tape argument. However, when my...

Sometimes auto lane change doesn't work

After the last two software updates (or shortly after), the "lane change" check box got unchecked. Once I re-enabled it in the configuration, all was well.

    Oh the irony

In a way, it's kind of a shame that the 12V batteries on the MS and MX aren't more accessible and easy to change. From what I've been reading, they don't seem to last any longer than batteries in ICE cars. But at least they're smaller and cost more.o_O

How does an Electric Car work ?

Like "taping" a conversation, "taping" a TV show or "taping" an event. Or, as the newscaster says: "Lets play the tape". Maybe Trump uses a 20th century tape recorder in the Oval Office (as he's alluded to). Who knows? Has anyone, especially professionals, actually used physical magnetic tape...

    Elon Musk: Departing presidential councils

I actually rushed my MS order to get it before the end of 2016. Why? Because I figured that there was a good chance that Trump would pull the tax credit in 2017. I've been wrong so for, but...

    New Model S Order Website

Maybe this is just a "dry run" test using the MS and MX as practice for the M3 launch. Much less risk sicking this on MS & MX buyers than a large flood of M3 buyers when the ordering gates open for them.

    New Model S Order Website

At first it looked like these "bundles" provided a discount on the two configurations that I compared. But when checking my math again, they did not..or maybe pricing changed as I was navigating. So, other than easier ordering and "maybe" a quicker delivery, I couldn't see any benefit in using...

    Elon Musk: Departing presidential councils

Pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord is just another check-mark in Trump's efforts to eliminate everything (good, bad, or don't care) from Obama's Legacy. Just look at what he's done so far, tried to do, is trying to do, or promised to do.

Trump pulls out of Paris climate deal

How to get Trump to stay in the Paris Climate Accord Quick, get one or more environmental protection groups to give him a medal. It doesn’t matter what it’s actually for (maybe the “Global Citizen Award”, or “I am a Parisian Award”), as long as it’s shiny gold and has his name on it. As he's...

GM training video EV1/Saturn - how far they have fallen

Yup. I made it thru all of the boring stuff too. I wonder if any of the EV1 service techs from 20 years ago are working on Bolts or Teslas now. BTW, I actually drove an EV1 for a short test drive when they were new. Great torque; terrible handling.

    Model 3 Interior: Ugh!

Keep in mind that although the Model 3 body strongly resembles the Model S, the competition is not a 1/2 priced S, but the Leaf, BMW i3, Bolt, et al. Regarding the dash, IMO, there's a striking contrast between the stuck-on cluttered and recycled newspaper look of the i3 and the "mostly" clean...

    Poor rearward visibility?

Yup! I've tried folding down the rear seat backs to remove the headrest from view. But doing this really doesn't help much. And, for my seating position, the wide "B" pillar on the drivers side creates a huge blind spot when merging into traffic.:(

Recent Model S changes reflection of Model 3 options?

However, like with other models from auto manufactures, a fully loaded M3 could actually price out higher than a base MS (currently at ~$70K). A fully loaded MS more than doubles the base price.

    DIY Rear Tire Puncture Guards

Since most nail and screw punctures seem to occur in the rear tires, I made a pair of “Puncture Guards” to protect the rear tires of my Model S. Model S cannot be ordered with a metal roof AT ALL now?

I've been trying to figure out why the metal roof is not offered. I'd be surprised if it's cheaper for Tesla to put on a glass roof. Maybe they plan to make up the cost difference by selling replacements for broken ones...Have you ever had a cracked metal roof?. Or maybe they want to help...

    Devaluation of HW1?

HW2 was supposed to reach parity with HW1 more than 4 months ago. It's still not there. I'm beginning to wonder if it ever will. Forget about FSD; it's even further out. At this point, I view my AP2 MS functionality as an expensive and dangerous toy. With HW1, you'll also be getting lifetime...

Tesla goes bankrupt, or desides to go HP or Samsung... what happens to my car?

There are enough Teslas out there already that supporting them would probably be a good business for some independents...at least for a while. And salvaged cars could provide parts...for a while. My guess is that at least a minimal level of software support would be taken on by whoever bought...

No CAN Bus, No 12V for Model Y

Years ago there was a push to replace 12V batteries with 48V batteries in all cars. These made sense for larger motors that drive A/C compressors, electric power steering, brake boost, heated elements within the cabin, and even smaller motors, etc. Thinner wires, less weight, less copper...

    regenerative braking poll

…like when AP brings the car to a full stop. :)
  49. Haxster

    regenerative braking poll

No. Not reverse power; just a smooth friction brake & hold after regen gives up slowing the car down. AP already does this.
  50. Haxster

    regenerative braking poll

Creep is off. (Why would any experienced driver want this ICE car defect?) Regen stops at ~5 mph and then it "coasts". I'd like it to brake "with finess" after regen ends and then hold. AP already does this.
