    Solar roof wiring?

Yeah I've been wondering that myself. I've got a junction box near the roof, then nothing else till the inverter. I've seen the inverter wiring, it's not being combined there... none of the wiring is in the attic for us.

    Solar roof wiring?

That's what I was afraid of. I have a delta M8, 3 strings, I think they probably should have wired up my 2x23 tile strings in parallel to 1x MPPT, they are both on the garage roof very close to each other with no shading issues. Then the lower roof 35 tiles could be on its own MPPT, and the...

    Solar roof wiring?

There is a lot of shade on my lower roof. I've been seeing things like this where production jumps up at 8 and 2, with dips at 9 and 1, due to shade on the lower roof from my chimney in the AM, and the upper roof in the PM.

I'm still trying to get real time monitoring.

    Solar roof wiring?

6.8kW total. I didn't realize shade on one parallel string messed up the other. How much of an impact is it? Just an efficiency decrease or a total reduction? They didn't send me the design before installation (or even during installation) so I didn't know until after I got PTO. I guess...

Using a Credit Card or Paypal to pay for Tesla Solar

I just made 2 payments on my tesla solar roof using 2 separate credit cards. Billing rep was the nicest person I've worked with at Tesla! I was a little anxious about doing payments over the phone, if any one else is nervous about it, don't be, they are very friendly and it's really easy...

Newbie install option / system design

Any interest in solar roof? You can get an instant quote for exactly the size of system you want from the website based on tweaking the "cost of electricity" input. I feathered my system to a target cost, above our "need" based on current usage. Before installing we were using ~7,000kWh/yr...

    Solar roof wiring?

Mine was very similar, I have a super string with two 35 tile strings in parallel as PV1, then two smaller 24 tile strings for PV2/ PV3 on a 3 string system.

Did you call or email? Calling always worked best for me.

After a new solar roof is installed, how hard to replace an existing rooftop condenser unit?

My wife absolutely refused to have solar panels on the front of our house (facing SW) so a solar roof was the only possible way to get solar that would provide a payback in a reasonable amount of time and produce what we needed.
  13. SoCalSolarRoof

After a new solar roof is installed, how hard to replace an existing rooftop condenser unit?

They will keep the bathroom vents. Whirly vents got replaced on my roof with a ridge vent which is better!

After a new solar roof is installed, how hard to replace an existing rooftop condenser unit?

Remove it now, put the new one on the ground, then get solar roof.

Thanks, my request went all the way up to the Tesla resolutions department, we will see what they say.

    Tesla Inverter + Neurio

Wow, that is a cool dashboard! So with the generation data and net metering you can figure out total usage? How do you get the Tesla generation data? I have a delta inverter so won't get data from solar edge...

    Tesla Inverter + Neurio

Yup, that's my struggle right now, I'm in between. They designed my system a month or two before they announced the Tesla inverter, and they ran out of power Blasters that run on zigbee (supposedly), so because of the timing I don't have access to features that be installs using the Tesla...

    Tesla Inverter + Neurio

Do you think this would work with a delta inverter? I've been told that I can't get a neurio because they discontinued the zigbee ones, and am wondering if the wifi one needs a tesla inverter or if it could connect directly to my home wifi.

Question about the Tesla Solar Energy app

Tesla switched inverter to Delta (no optimizers) from promised solaredge (with optimizers)

I ended up cutting my trees down due to this issue with a delta M8 inverter. Once installed it will be hard to get them to change it. How much shade do you have? What is it caused by?

Did anyone else get PTO before their roof was done?

Wow, that's a really long time! I think they are finally done with my roof! Ropes are gone as of 10am this morning!
  23. SoCalSolarRoof

Did anyone else get PTO before their roof was done?

Haha, the anchors stay under the panels. I've been trying to figure out how to access them after Tesla removes the rope. The rope right now is covering up some of my solar panels, so it may be lowering my output.

Inverter size when maximum system is 11.56 kW (34 panels)

I have a 7.68kW solar roof with a delta M8 8kW inverter. Could someone explain DC to AC ratio to me? Why would a system clip? I'm not sure what my ratio is, and if it matters in my case.
  25. SoCalSolarRoof

Did anyone else get PTO before their roof was done?

So we got PTO from SDG&E weeks ago, but still have ropes on the roof and the Tesla quality engineer keeps finding things that need fixing. Has this happened to anyone else?

Solar roof v3 install done, waiting on PTO now

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

True, you'd need to run a sprinkler per panel, not ideal.
  28. SoCalSolarRoof

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

Yup, 2 stories. I used the Tesla security rope, they're still not done yet so that made it easier. Agreed, I wouldn't go up without a harness, I wish there was a way to rig a harness rope up to self coil when I'm not using it haha...
  29. SoCalSolarRoof

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

Good to know! We had saw dust from trees that were cut down recently which is why I went up to clean. I agree, once I get a good baseline, and there aren't special events that get the roof really dirty, I probably won't be up there much.
  30. SoCalSolarRoof

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

We had a similar roof, and tiles cracked every time someone went up there, including roofers! That's one reason why we decided on the solar roof. Could you plumb a sprinkler type system to spray water up there? It would only require you to climb up to install it once, then you could just turn...

Mine doesn't have anything populated for solar production issues, I wonder how long you have to have the system before those options appear.

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

I have the solar roof so that's not an option for me. Good thing it rained today!
  37. SoCalSolarRoof

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

I don't know, for me in San Diego, I went from 25kWh to 28kWh per day by wiping down half of my panels... that's a big difference!
  38. SoCalSolarRoof

    Catwalk to rinse off panels?

How high up are they? Can you just spray them from a ladder?
  39. SoCalSolarRoof

    New SolarRoof Panels coming?

That's interesting. I actually really like the current dark tiles. I agree, that brown is not appealing, at least from the sky. Wonder what that would look like from the ground. They are the large size as well, so not so easy to make look like traditional roof shingles.

Burn or leaky cell on solar roof tile?

Haha I almost crashed it when taking some shots, I thought I was above my trees, but I had taken off from a different spot than usual so my altitude reading was off by over 5 feet and I backed the drone into the tree. I somehow got it out of the branches before it hit the ground and it was able...

Burn or leaky cell on solar roof tile?

Could be hard to see with a drone, my drone gets angry if I get it to close to the roof!
  42. SoCalSolarRoof

Some output data, and advise needed after couple good sunny days

What is the wattage of your panels? What is the total wattage of your system? Based on that you can determine if you're getting a ratio that makes sense or not. ~3:1 ratio at this time of year is good, so if your system is 400w panels, 42 panels is 16.8kW, x3 is 50.4kWh daily, which is around...

For solar roof, cash payment, 100% payment is due 5 days after "final inspection" (other than the $100 deposit). They sent me an invoice after the city inspected the solar portion, but my roof was still not done. We had ropes on the roof, and multiple items that weren't complete (vents, ridge...

Burn or leaky cell on solar roof tile?

Yup, I already asked for a new tile. I am still picking up pieces of glass, there was at least 1 that shattered on my roof, and the pieces ran under the others, so when it rains or the wind blows hard enough more get knocked out of the roof onto the ground...
