My Model S lost an argument with a parking garage: advice?

Got a quote from a second body shop, Westcoast Auto Body and Painting in Santa Clara (very well reviewed on Yelp). Their quote came to $1,360: $490 for 7hrs @ $70/hr body labor $560 for 8hrs @ $70/hr paint/refinishing labor $285 for paint/materials They had another Tesla out front, which I...

My Model S lost an argument with a parking garage: advice?

I do have gap insurance (72-month loan term, about 50% paid), but I don't see any way they'll consider this car totaled, and if my understanding is correct the only way to find out would be to file a claim, in which case I'll likely see my insurance go up and, potentially, the car tagged as...

My Model S lost an argument with a parking garage: advice?

I got my first quote recently, from Sunnyvale Autobody. They're not Tesla-certified but they do aluminum. Bob said that they wouldn't need to replace the quarter-panel (nor could they, as a non-certified body shop), but it looks fully-repairable by taking off the bumper, reshaping the...

My Model S lost an argument with a parking garage: advice?

Thanks for all the advice and sympathy! A friend has highly recommended Sunnyvale Autobody, who get great Yelp reviews and are aluminum certified, so I'll certainly check them out, and Chilton's in Santa Clara is Tesla Authorized but also gets very good reviews, so I'll check there as well...

My Model S lost an argument with a parking garage: advice?

While attempting to navigate backwards into a 3-deep parking stall approximately 3mm wider than my Model S with a concrete wall on one side I relied too much on the rearview video (it turns out the lines represent where the wheels are, not where the widest point of the body is, who knew?!?) I...

Minor scratch from keying - how to best repair it?

My daughter threw the door open of our non-Tesla scraping some paint from the Tesla (aargh!). Anyone have a detailer they recommend in the Bay Area, ideally the peninsula or South Bay? - Bill

Bulge in 19" tire - immediate replacement needed? Warranty work?

I stopped by a local tire store for a quote ($138 for the tire, $170 with various fees and labor, though they didn't have the Goodyear tire in stock). I also took it to the Sunnyvale Tesla Service Center, they called the Goodyear store who said this type of problem almost never qualifies as a...

Bulge in 19" tire - immediate replacement needed? Warranty work?

Hi, Our Model S with 19" tires has a bulge in the rear passenger tire: I presume this needs to be addressed ASAP. Does anyone know if there will be full or partial warranty coverage for this (we have 9K miles on the car, delivered May 2013)? Would I get this addressed through Tesla...

Tesla App on Android slower than iOS?

I also fairly frequently find I need to kill the app on Android before it'll connect. Also the location tab updates much more fluidly on iOS when the car is traveling, on Android it updates every 5-10 seconds, less than 1 second on iOS.

Anyone know of a cover for the back seats?

On our previous cars we've always gotten a custom cover for the rear seats (with appropriate cutouts for headrests, seat belts, etc.) to protect against various spills and damage caused by our kids and dog. I haven't been able to find one for the Model S. Anyone know of anything? Bill

Really hot for the rear facing seats

On the contrary, these seats work exactly as intended for us. We need the ability to carry four kids for school carpool, and hated the thought of getting a minivan or larger SUV just to accommodate the two or three mornings a week during the school year when we need the extra seating. We park...

I Made a Video Demo of Folding and Unfolding of the Rear Facing Child Seats

The cover fits at the bottom of the footwell - you have to fold the angled section back towards the main part (so it will fit briefly into the gap on the lower left of the footwell), then slide it in to the left side of the footwell (where the open space is), then lay it flat on the bottom and...

ProClip mount: any Model S Owner in/near Madison, WI?

Mitch, I'd think the center mount clip would make more sense to the left side of the screen (assuming you're not trying to make it accessible to the passenger). Is there a reason this wouldn't be the case? I like it lower so if I have it charging the cable isn't draped all the way from the...

ProClip mount: any Model S Owner in/near Madison, WI?

Mitch, have you gotten yours yet? FYI, I chatted with a ProClip agent, he said the screen mount version can sit anywhere along the lower edge of the screen (not just the lower right as shown), and that part of the mounting uses double-sided tape, so it's not designed for frequent removal.

    Front License Plate Solutions

Sadly, after 11 years with my previous car and no front plate issues, I just got a no front plate ticket in San Francisco (from a "meter maid") after six weeks of Tesla ownership. $114! :scared: $10 if I get it fixed. I think $114 is a bit much, and Wifey has no appreciation for the naked...

Photos of XPEL Ultimate install on Multi-Coat Red

Hi, All, The installer (from a very well-reviewed firm) just left my house after doing the front (will come back to do rear bumper and fenders and some window tinting). There are some minor bubbles under the film, but he says they will disappear in a few weeks as the moisture is absorbed. Did...

    Firmware 4.5

Regardless of whether the Superchargers themselves are wired for telematics, the car it's charging certainly is, so the car's firmware could register a given SC as in-use. Don't know if the car can tell precisely which SC at a location it's connected to, but worst case you could register "7 of...

    Voice/speech recognition sensitivity and accuracy

I work for Nuance, who provides voice recognition technology for most voice-enabled automobiles (as well as mobile phones, TV's, Dragon Dictate, etc.). Tracking Multi-red production and sequencing

OK, my car just came alive in the Tesla app within the last hour. What's the shortest time anyone's had between a "heartbeat" in the app and pickup? Or, put another way, does anyone know how much is left in the delivery process after the car is alive? Is it worth berating my DS to see if the...

    Rear jump seats

Hi, Kipernicus, Can you tell me how old/tall your kids are, and how much clearance they have before their heads hit the roof? I'm about to finalize my paperwork, but my wife's gonna be pissed if it turns out our girls won't be able to use them until one can safely ride in the front seat!

    Rear jump seats

Our family's ability to take delivery of the Model S depends on the jump seats being suitable for our kids for a couple of years (currently age 8 and 5.5, average height). We've gotten wildly diverse claims from various Tesla folks regarding the suitable dimensions for the seats, with the...
