2019 Tesla Model 3 Performance with FSD - Michigan

Hard to believe but car prices are up around the country (both new and pre-owned). The car has been driven a bit since I posted this in the fall. Now up to 12,069 miles. After posting in the fall I decided to keep the car, but as you can see it gets very little use so bumping this thread...

How to remove rear "shelf" speaker grille

No guarantee doing anything there will address your issue. The double sided tape was only a temporary fix that did not last. In the end they replaced my entire rear shelf. I think as they were working to address the noise they caused the 3rd brake light to rattle which required them to...

Detroit - Clarkston, Mi Service Center (new)

Tesla service is absolutely terrible if you must take your car to a service center. It was excellent. Tesla would pick up your car and leave you a loaner wherever you were. The location of the service center was irrelevant. Then out of nowhere Tesla cancelled that service without notice...

Crack on glass roof no exterior damage but not under warranty?

Had my rear glass replaced due to not enough adhesive used when it was installed. Local service techs said this is a very common problem. It creates soft spots in the roof glass that eventually turn into small stress fractures. Then the glass cracks. Now mine was replaced because we...

Cost to own Model 3 AWD vs Subaru Outback

Model 3 insurance is 60%+ higher in Michigan than other cars of similar age/MSRP. Most of that increase is in the comprehensive and collision premiums. There are also higher state vehicle registration costs to offset the lack of taxes paid at the pump - but these costs are significantly...

    Service in Michigan

I came from a Cadillac ATS-V and they also offered a similar concierge service. I never once took my ATS-V to the dealership. The dealership picked up my car, left a loaner, and then swapped back after service was compete. When you are crazy busy and time is money these value added...

    Service in Michigan

That is irrelevant. Tesla shut down the concierge service. Why? Many bought their cars with this in mind and then out of the blue it stopped. That is Tesla's doing. Nothing to do with legislators or laws. Tesla took away a value added service.

    Service in Michigan

This has nothing to do with legislators. Tesla offered a concierge service where they would bring you a car, pick up your car, take it to a staging location (Farmington Hills in my area), then truck your car to Cleveland where the repairs would take place. Then bring it back to you. It was...

    Creaking sound in Model 3

Those sounds are not creaks. That seems like a massive clunking noise. Something that should be tight is not. Could be failed or worn out rubber bushings. Which could explain why some people are having their control arms replaced to fix these noises.

Eibach Releases Performance Pack Lowering Springs

When you lower a car just by changing springs you lose a bit of range of strut/shock travel. Lower 1" and you lose 1" of strut travel before your strut bottoms out. This causes the strut to bottom out more frequently. This usually causes premature wear. When you move to a full coilover...

TSportline added their logo to all their wheels - voice your disappointment!

Was about to buy the 18" TSS or TST wheels for winter wheels. None of the pictures of the wheels on the cars have the logo. I just caught the logo on one of the pictures of the wheel by itself. I don't mind their logo somewhere on the wheel but not like they did it. Looks terrible.

Insurance premiums for the Model 3

I'm in Michigan so we have some of the highest rates in the country. My model 3 performance is about 35% higher than my '16 Cadillac ATS-V and our '18 WRX (which surprisingly were the same price even though the WRX was half the purchase price). So quite a bit more.

    HPWC Failure - melted wire.

Here's a follow up. The wall connector is no longer functional.. The wire was melted maybe 2 inches in the conduit. I cut off about 3 feet of wire (looked brand new) and ran the feed into a junction box and then new wire to the HPWC. Nothing. After sending Tesla the pictures and...

    HPWC Failure - melted wire.

Thanks for the tips. I don't see how the wire could be on the wrong side of the clamp. I'll have to look closer at it. They were both clamped in tight. I agree the jacket wasn't stripped back as far as it could have been. I'll make sure to strip it back further next time. Any thoughts to...

Last night I plugged in my Model 3 around 50% battery like I do each day (charge to 80% daily). Went to go to work this morning and I notice I'm at 28% battery. I see the HPWC has no power. Breaker is on but nothing from the HPWC. So I take my Jeep to work and deal with it later...

    Model S —> Model 3 : Any regrets?

Had a 2016 P90D as a loaner. Much bigger car. One big positive: MUCH quieter in the cabin. Road noise and wind noise both were nearly non-existant compared to our model 3s. The S interior felt very outdated compared to the 3. A refresh has to be coming.

Is it worth $3k for FSD for EAP owners

My feedback is based on software version 2019.24.4 on HW3. Regular AP is ok because you can control the lane changes. Although even at a follow distance of 1 the car leaves at least 3 car lengths between the car in front of me which really doesn't fly in traffic. I constantly get cut...
  33. dwalme

Is it worth $3k for FSD for EAP owners

No. Any time the car wants to change lanes you'll piss off everyone around you. It seems the car has very limited vision. It slows down to change lanes instead of accelerating into the lane to properly merge with traffic. Signals to get over and waits too long to make the move. It is...

How to remove rear "shelf" speaker grille

Mobile service came out yesterday to address the rear shelf noise (and other things). We went for a test drive to diagnose wind noise and one thing I noticed it was much quieter. I asked him if he did anything to the rear shelf yet and he said yes. It was rattling just by tapping so I put...

    2019.20.4.2

You're likely not wrong for waiting. It's definitely not a $6k value with the features today. But HW3 cars are not benefiting from the HW3 computer yet. It'll be interesting to see how much better FSD will be once software comes out that utilizes HW3 capability.

If you want AP/FSD covered by your insurance, purchase before delivery

In Michigan you only give the VIN number to the insurance company. The VIN number does not decode the $10k bump for the performance package or the $5-6k increase for FSD. Those items would have to be covered to some degree if the vehicle were to be totaled. But you raise an interesting...

I need to know about your rattles....

Just tap with your hand until you can reproduce the rattle noise to help identify it. It seems almost the entire rear deck rattles to some degree depending on where you tap and how much force you use. Most of the rattles come from the metal grill, but only when tapping a bit forward of it...

    P3D+ Acceleration

I picked it up from other posters here and other forums. It's possible it is a circular reference with an unknown origin at this point. Whatever Tesla (Porsche, GM, etc) requested Michelin do with OEM tires would be considered proprietary information and will not be disclosed unless Tesla...
  42. dwalme

    P3D+ Acceleration

Tesla's spec is supposed to have harder compound in the center of the tire to support the higher tire pressures without wearing them out prematurely. That would contribute to it being a less sticky tire. How much so vs it's wider tread width is anybody's guess.
