Looking for people's experience at Superchargers in the Midwest

Hi Vip - During a road trip to DC this past winter from Chi-town, I visited all of them except Pleasant Prairie, WI. No problems with ICE-ing - ICEs that is. However, there was a snow storm on the way back and plenty of actual ice on the roads and superchargers! They performed (as well as...

Any chance of seeing a Model S in HK this weekend?

All - I did get up to the service center last weekend. There is a beautiful red MS in the showroom that I got to sit in. I took advantage and switched the units to miles! (for fun). Its funny how easily you remember how to get to all the screens. Anyway for the 500+ Model S reservation...

Any chance of seeing a Model S in HK this weekend?

I'm traveling to HK this weekend and would like to see a Model S. Any ideas? I don't have an HK postal code so presumably cannot set up a test drive. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

    Return to Singapore

The cost of owning a car in Singapore is way too prohibitively expensive - electric or otherwise. While you do get a modest break on the COE (road tax) for an EV, it's still something like 2-3X the retail purchase price. The flipside is that traffic is relatively light for such a small island...

Speculation: Elon to meet crew from rally in New York???

Yeah they are really holding this one close to the vest. We heard about Highland Park this am but really at about the time they were arriving and only through a close source. Roads weren't plowed enough for me to venture out yet!

    Time For Some Destination Chargers!

I would normally be happy to assist with this, but I sold my car (delivery to buyer in March) and will be moving to Singapore in 2 months. If there aren't any J-plugs when I get back (sometime in 2016) in the places I mentioned, I'll make some calls then and get the ball rolling. By the way...

    Tesla Cross-Country Trip

Yeah, I think John and his daughter's trip was a bit more bold - no support vehicles. We going from Chicago to 'All Roads lead to DC' without support vehicles. I like what TM is doing but without support vehicles seems to give more credibility. Anyway, there have been many cross country trips...

    @TeslaRoadTrip 2014 (Feb 15-17, 2014) - Dinner Event Signup & Details Available!

That weekend I won't hit 3,400 miles round trip, but I will do over 2,000. Chicago to DC will be about 800. Then DC to Manhattan Sunday will be another 200 or so. Then reverse it Monday and Tuesday. Aaron - I was wondering why you chose Sunday night for the dinner? Is that because Monday...

Coast to Coast Roadtrip with Superchargers?

Now that the SCs are pretty much up and running coast-to-coast, has anyone yet embarked on a road trip across the US using the SCs? I realize the weather is not ideal (at least east of the Rockies) but perhaps there are some adventurous souls out there? Mods - please mode this thread to...

    @TeslaRoadTrip 2014 (Feb 15-17, 2014) - Dinner Event Signup & Details Available!

It looks like the longest gap is between Macedonia OH and Somerset PA. While 175 mi should be ok in my S85, does anyone know what SC is being installed on this route between these locations?

Moving, shipping your Tesla to Germany

I''m moving to Singapore in a couple months - I won't be taking my beloved Pac Blue (will be meeting with a potential buyer tomorrow). I'll buy another one when we move back home in 2016. Taking a loss on a luxury vehicle is something we'll just have to live with.

Well, I have departed on last minute road trip!

islandbayy thanks for the warning. When I do a road-trip this winter I'll take a snow blower in the back just in case. Hopefully the gasoline won't slosh around too much under the hatchback.....

Supercharger - Cranberry, PA (NW of Pittsburgh)

That would be me - however, the SCs that are already active are within 175 mi. of each other. Assuming no driving during a winter storm, this should be no problem for my S85.

    Tesla Supercharger network

So that's it - per my estimation, the SC in Cheyenne and Kingman AZ is the last gap for an S85 to be able to drive from CA to Wash DC. I'm assuming that 175 miles between superchargers is doable with reasonable effort. There's an outside chance that I take a road trip from Chi to Tucson in...

Tesla Model S Signature Performance dancing in the snow

Dave - That video rocks! I think it beats all those dumb Mercedes Christmas commercials that have been shoved down our throats for the last 3 weeks (sorry - no DVR to tech them away). In fact, your video is one commercial I would LIKE to see! Anyway good stuff and darned entertaining!

    Black Friday (formerly 'Bkacil Friday')

thanks yobigd20. Prices are still a bit steep for me to justify but seem to be more competitive than the after market product. Of course, I haven't compared the actual products themselves so it could be an apples-to-oranges situation.

    Michigan Superchargers (location speculation, discussion)

Wattson & all - looks like this one surprised us all! Please add to your sleuthing analysis. I only noticed it when I pressed the supercharger button in my car today and St. Joe's popped up. What? Wow! How were the cords? Were they a bit still in the cold like Ron mentioned last weekend...

    JB talk

What I like is that Tesla started in a garage. Many great companies start this way. Even with Elon's backing, it took a number off years to convince VC to invest. I also like that TM was experimenting wtih 18650 cells so many years ago. Going with small laptop batteries that are...

    Stop making excuses for Tesla!

Thumper - interesting that you bring this case up. This accident lead to a lengthy investigation that ultimately resulted in the conviction and incarceration of one of our governors. Our state has the notoriety of sending many governors to jail over the years (corruption is the biggest culprit).

If you're in ranger service range just have them come out to do the service at your house. Would take a few hours.

    450 WH/mile?

Another possibility is that with the new software the batteries are being kept a bit warmer than they were last year - does anyone know if this is the case? That could explain more energy use (compared to prior software versions).

Can an exclusive Tesla dealer survive?

Interesting 2nd chart - I hadn't thought of selling used cars for a net profit but of course that would be an obvious source of dealer revenue. However, according to the 3 major revenue source charts, if you took away net profits from new cars and parts/service (which would be equivalent to the...

    450 WH/mile?

I think the message has to do with the newer software that we are running which is why we didn't see it last winter. 450Wh/mi is not unusual for relatively short trips where you're running the heater.

    Anyone else experiencing "Driver's Foot"

Interesting that you post this. After about 2 weeks with my MS I noticed a pain in my LEFT ankle. It was periodic and sharp. I got an MRI and saw the ortho but there was nothing that showed up. I finally adjusted the seat to be more comfortable from a foot-resting perspective and that did...

    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

Yes I just read this. Seems like the MS is designed to keep all occupants safe, and even instructed the owner to pull over. I'm not aware of any other car that does this.

    Yearly service

Arcing between high voltage points - that is pretty scary! Sounds like damage was not too bad, all things considered. These kind of accidents can short batteries, blow controllers, you name it.
  45. E

    12v battery replacement notice

Yes. I had a ranger come out to check my TPMS (they were giving false readings) and he swapped the 12V at that time, so I didn't get (or need) a separate email notification for this. Old 12V was grey and new one is red. I had my 12,500 check-up a couple months ago, and this happened after that.

The Tesla Factory is now building your Model S....what are the process stages ?

Based on the Nat Geo megafactories documentary on Tesla, each car takes about 3-5 days to go from rolled aluminum (assuming no inventory of body panels) to completed car. It would be great if they told you when your vehicle is beginning the assembly line process but there are most likely...

Can an exclusive Tesla dealer survive?

I was thinking about the TX dealer laws and what residents in TX need to go through in order to buy a Tesla, and that got me thinking about the financial model for an auto dealer. Specifically, if an exclusive dealer could survive. The dealer would need to be exclusive to TM or there would be...
