    Tesla App and SolarEdge Inverter

Please report back. :) It was hard enough to get Tesla to give access to the SolarEdge portal. And they make you acknowledge a waiver that you will not ask them for any support for the SolarEdge portal.

    Tesla App and SolarEdge Inverter

Do you mean the layout matches your installation layout? My layout is messed up. It is a straight line when my physical layout is in 3 rows. I don't know which virtual panel matches up to which real panel. It also makes it impossible for me to view all the panels at once since they won't fit on...

Asking: Best Advice / Practice For Nem 2.0 Socal Edison

SCE Grandfathered Rate Plans There is a FAQ for "Will I have to change my rate plan" that mentions 2020, but also "Some customers with grandfathered solar generating facilities may be allowed to stay on longer, depending on the date their solar system was activated." This article mentions the...

Asking: Best Advice / Practice For Nem 2.0 Socal Edison

How come you plan on switching from TOU-D-B to TOU-D-PRIME in 2020? Are they kicking you out? I think if you are PTO on TOU-D-B then they need to grandfather you until July 31st 2022. The 2pm-8pm peak is much better for solar production. You will lose 2 hours of peak pricing generation with the...

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

Don't you get credited for production based on the time of the production, so the value of the lost production is higher than $0.13? I hope I'm understanding CA net metering correctly. I'm still waiting for my first bill and was hoping that I would get $0.50 for my over production during peak...

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

That's the A series which has different faceplate and max ratings. RoBoRaT and I have the H series which has rated and max AC as the same, so it is surprising that it is going above max.

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

I was surprised by RoBoRaT's $0.13 rate which was mentioned in association with clipping loss, so I thought it was a daytime rate and not a nighttime rate. I'm also taking advantage of the EV rate arbitrage while it lasts.

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

Yeah, I think it is rarely worth it changing after install. And in this case even before install the cost differential might be higher than the value of the extra energy even over 20 years. You guys have such cheap energy. This is SoCal, right? in SF Bay Area our rates are twice as much for the...

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

What about one SE3800 and one SE5000? Would that have passed 120% rule and given you more capacity? Or maybe mix the inverters and downsize the main breaker by a little bit to be under 120% rule?

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

I guess going a little above is normal then. Weird that the specification specifies 3.8kw as the max. I took a look at the box and see a limit of 4.0kw on one of the screens. Maybe that is the true limit. Do you see that on your inverters?

SolarEdge HD wave inverter going above rated max output

I have a SolarEdge SE3800H inverter that is rated for 3.8kw max AC output. Most of the time it stays below this and clips at 3.8kw as expected. But today I saw it go to 4.0kw before clipping. Anyone else observe this behavior? Is my unit faulty, leading to premature failure?

Which PG&E rate plan should I choose after going solar?

I'm not sure if this is true. The 120% estimate is probably on a kWh basis and not cost basis. PGE will charge 49 cents at peak and 27 cents at partial peak. Imagine a case where all solar production is during partial-peak, you will only be paid 27 cents a kWh for what you are feeding back, but...

Which PG&E rate plan should I choose after going solar?

EVA is the best for solar since you get high price net metering from 2pm to 9pm and partial peak from 7am to 2pm. Summer solar production window sweet spot is from 10am to 4pm, so most of you production will be in partial peak or peak. And if you are charging your car off peak then it is likely...

Solar system install tomorrow. What do I need to know?

So did they install 28 panels then will come back to add more or did they leave without any work and will come back later for the full install when the new design is ready? If they left without doing any work, I wonder how that affects their comp or cost to the company.

    Tipping installers?

I think JFChenger meant that the mandatory tip or surcharge went to the server (not the owners) as a guarantee that they did not work a table for an hour without getting any tips. Restaurant tips have become an expected component of compensation. As such, I think in many places wait staff can be...

What's the tipping etiquette for solar installers, contractors, and other work of that type? I know movers expect to be tipped.

    Tesla Solar Journey

I never had a site assessment and they have already scheduled an install. How can they be confident that the roof is in good enough condition? Is this based on the satellite pictures?

    Taking Pics (Self help) process

No, there is no list. I recall the following. 1. Face of the electric meter with numbers visible 2. Several pictures standing further back showing the meter and surrounding (ground and wall) 3. Main breaker panel 4. Label for main breaker panel 5. Breaker sub-panel with labels 6. Another picture...

    Solar Edge Inverter Extended Warranty

So the 30 percent tax can be applied to improvements/add-ons added after the initial install? I was told that Powerwall added after installation don't qualify for the 30 percent credit, so thought the same would be the case with a warranty not on the original contract.

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Did you also get solar from Tesla? I'm only getting solar, no PW or HPWC. Asked the design team get back to me about whether a hidden conduit for the solar panels can be done, but they did not call and scheduled me anyway. Wondering if hidden conduit from the roof is included in pricing or they...

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

What are the extra charges for options on top of the base price? Is hidden conduit or locating the inverter inside extra?

    PG&E discontinuing EV-A rate

I'm on E1, but scheduled to move to ETOU-A after the solar is installed since PGE forces all NEM accounts onto time-of-use plans.

    PG&E discontinuing EV-A rate

PGE will not accept new signups for EV-A rate starting July 1st. Anybody know what the replacement rate plan will be? Anyone on the EV-A plan with solar. Is it worth it to switch to EV-A before it is discontinued to be grandfathered? How long is the grandfathering?

Anyone using Tesla Delta Solivia inverter(s) without Powerwall?

In my case it would since I only have one inverter. That's one of the marketing points for the Enphase micro-inverters since there in an inverter for each panel.

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

1 to 2k, plus installation. So not a trivial amount. They seem to be flaky too. I see many messages about the inverters failing anywhere from out of the box, within a few days, 3 years, 7 years, etc. Only pattern is basically they are bound to fail before the end-of-life of the panels.
  26. T

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Cool, great that you are getting the better panels with 20 years. I asked them about Panasonic and they said they were only doing Hanwha. They did not offer warranty extension either. They said I can call SolarEdge to order an extended warranty. That's the part I'm most worried about and would...

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

What's the size of the system/number of panels? And this is LA? I'm in the SF area and got a quote for Hanwha 315. Is the warranty any better with the Panasonic panels? For Hanwha it is 12 years.

Tesla Solar/ IL/ Rebates and quote new thread request

I'm surprised they originally speced that system without optimizers. Looks like you have many orientations and surfaces and would benefit from optimizers.

Tesla Solar/ IL/ Rebates and quote new thread request

Schroeder0202, I was quoted the same panels and solaredge for a 4.41kw system. Was your original quote with the Delta inverters without optimizers? So since you could go from 12kw to 10kw, I guess they have wiggle room around the standardized blocks of 4kw. I wonder why the quote system won't...

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Did you pay extra for the IQ7? If so, how much? They are quoting me SolarEdge optimizers. Haven't spoken to them whether there are panel, inverter, and warranty upgrade options.
  31. T

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

I requested a 4k quote. Need only 3.5, but after new pricing the web order form only has multiple of 4kw. Speced design is for 14 panels at 315 each, so 4.41kw. Pricing is almost 9K after incentives instead of 8K shown on the quote request. I'm waiting to talk to them to see if they can drop...
  32. T

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Yes, that is what is in the design proposal. Hanwha Q.PEAK DUO BLK-G5 / SC 310-320. Based on the sizing I think it is the 315. Looks like they come in groups of 14, so 4.41kw, so pricing is higher than the 4k pricing shown on the website. Maybe production is not going well at the Buffalo factory.
  33. T

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Tesla is quoting me Hanwha Q-Cells panels. How come they are not selling the Panasonic panels from the Buffalo factory? Are these Q-Cells comparable to the Panasonics? Warranty is only 12 years.

    Sunrun and Sales Cost

Schroeder0202, what type of panels and interverters did they quote you? Wow, that is such a good state incentive. Even more than the federal. Everyone in IL should be getting solar. What's your estimated payback time? Like 2-3 years?
  35. T

    Sunrun and Sales Cost

Yeah, totally unresponsive. They never sent a copy of the quotes generated in the sales meeting. No information in the account on their website. Then they ping me every few months on email and I reply asking for an update quote and no response.

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Gnumeric, which panels and inverters did they give you? Did you get it before the recent price reduction? I heard the new warranty is less than the old one.
  37. T

    PSA: Tesla solar panels $1.70-$1.99/watt

Yes, I'm also interested in a good installer in the SF Bay Area.
