In Car Nav showed this one as temporary closure when I went by yesterday afternoon. Phone app now shows open. I have no idea what the plan for this location is, but I wouldn't rely on it.

I'm in big bear lake now. Planning to add a 240v plug to our place here, but always bring the diesel 4x4 as we're on an un-maintained road. The potholes are about the size of a smart car so not in a hurry to bring the Tesla. Gotta get the road fixed first.

Exactly this. If you charge nightly the range thing is a non-issue for all but the longest daily commutes. However, on a trip, it can be a real factor. Get the longest range you can afford. By the way; I have literally never used that second Mobile Connector I got. I have used Superchargers on...
