Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Push notifications stopped working on my new Android phone and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. (Android 14) They were working but stopped after I had a charging glitch. I've tried everything....the notifications are working locallly at the OVMS car module and I...

Reengineering the Roadster: Custom Battery Upgrade for the Tesla Roadster

Great work @marco2228 ....the Taycan battery form factor looks like a good choice. Would make more sense to use something similar from Tesla as they would probably be more abundant and perhaps cheaper but I'm no expert and not sure if anything even exists. How difficult and pricey is it to...

Tesla open sources all design and engineering of original Roadster

One would have to assume Gruber and Medlock have had this diagnostic software for sometime....perhaps not as up to date as this latest release. Correct me if I'm wrong but one thing missing and vital are details on the PEM. Since it was sourced from a Taiwanese supplier, I can imagine it's...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

The OVMS module has it's own built-in webserver so the first thing I would do is go to the car...go into your wifi settings and see if the OVMS network is available...if so connect to this wifi network...open your browser and go to 192.168.4.1 to see if the login web page is available and if so...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

If you see the days increasing it sounds like the app is not the problem. The easiest way to reboot the ovms is to unplug the power and plug it back in

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Looks like ovms hasn't been communicating with the server for 25 days...can you log into it locally at the car? If ovms is not responding try rebooting to start. If the app on your phone is hung, have you tried closing it out and restaring it?

    Hagerty video

I agree….his take on this is simplistic. This is a fascinating subject to me…..I see this as an application or gear in problem…..why they started out with a two speed gearbox to complicate things is beyond me because the VFD technology to use a single speed motor and drive was quite mature at...

    “The world’s worst investment“

Well done video and kudos to @Onepointfive for the post.....it's one fun car to own...a real piece of art and history it's a wonderful car....I don't believe the noise the car generates is the gearbox....my many years of working with drive systems tells me the sound comes from the IGBT's...

Help! Battery cooling pump will not turn off.

Are you charging at 120 or 220 volts?? The AC only cools the battery if you are charging at 220 Volts. Charging at 120 volts you are dependant on the coolant pump and ambient temperature to get the battery temperature low enough for the coolant pump to shut off.

Mark…Thanks much for all you do to clarify and support! I now have OVMS coverage on WiFi at home and by cellular away. The Heathman Lodge destination charger is 16kW. If you had Henry's Can Sr. adapter you'd be charging at 70 amps. I'm a huge fan of the Can Sr. it's a robust piece of craftsmanship in a nice small package good for 70 amps. Considering the numerous 16kw Destination chargers around your neck of the...

Questions on my, new to me 2011 Tesla Roadster || Signature 250 Support (153) || Utah

I have a destination wall charger for my Model 3 and repurposed the Portable charge cable that came with my Model 3 to supply my Roadster. All you need is an extra 220 volt 12 or 20 amp circuit feeding a 15-50Amp Oven receptacle to plug the Mobile connector in to. Assuming you have Henry's...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Thanks! Makes sense didn't realize the first message was a predictor. My other question relates to trying to get an idea of battery health remotely via a shell ovms query. The documentation mentions the BMS and v+t display is not supported but the command line interpreter provides a BMS query...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Yes...the message sent on start of charging gives a peculiar charged value which I don't understand and then the message on charge completion gives another value which seems to me should be about 0.5 kWh for a ten minute charge but displays a value many times that amount. It looks like the...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

The kWh calculation done and reported by OVMS does not appear to be too accurate. Is there a configuration setting available to improve the accuracy of this reported value? For example a ten minute charge at 240V 12A reports anywhere between 1 and 20kWh Also, when I query the BMS status it...

Great sleuth work! The Gjeebs video is very significant, and well done. It chronicles the state of an amazing facility. Battery Average Voltage when low SOC

Not sure if this is of help or relevant but according to the Roadster Service Technical Training manual 0% SOC is 3.0 volts which seems excessive and dangerous. As I recall from an EV conversion project I was involved in during the early days of applying Li-Ion, the safe design limit is...

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

As a new owner gathering experience with the OVMS charge control, I'm assuming the daily top up algorithm is buried in the logic somewhere. Can anyone tell me if it is easily modified. Roadster 3.0

Yes... that's the company Chroma ATE...it’s fascinating to me Tesla turned to them since AC Propulsion's analog drive technology didn’t suit them. I would imagine they could quickly provide the HP in a compact space as well since AC's biggest drive at the time was far less. Chroma probably had...

    Roadster 3.0

I learned from Pete Gruber the PEM was designed and built by a company in Taiwan (I forgot the name) . As I recall, he didn't think they were building them anymore. Interesting the date code on the box is 2017. Almost indicates Tesla has a stock of NOS PEMS's???

    Storage mode: what percentage?

I have to reiterate what gregd says...you really need to get yourself a 220Volt circuit. Read through may posts on this forum that tell how unreliable 120 Volt charging is. You need a secure 220 volt circuit to protect your investment!!

    Storage mode: what percentage?

Glad to hear you have an OVMS. Based on what I have read I have come to the conclusion it's best to treat my new roadster like I charge my M3. I just leave my M3 plugged in at a setpoint of 80% so I always leave home with a "full tank" I have a destination charger and of course it's easy to...
