Discussion: All Season Vs Summer Tires

There is no doubt the summers are much higher performance and feel better in spirited driving. I only drive spiritedly maybe 5% of the time. Most of the time, I'm going through traffic or driving at a steady rate on the highway. Seems silly for me to pay for nice summers when they get used up...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Did the venting actually work well? Also, Kyle from Out of Spec sat in them and he was wider than the bolsters :D How is the padding compared to an non-performance model?

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I went through my summers in about 12k miles so i switched to A/S. I'm getting about 20k miles from these so thats a benefit. Noise? Incrementally more noise in my super noisy 2019 model 3 doesn't make a difference. Its all deafening to me anyway 😁

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I don't need ultimate speed either. It sounds like the new M3P is just a more fun car all around and seems highly RWD biased with the new motors and very tossable. Will definitely test drive both and see which one I like more.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

To be fair, no one from Tesla ever said that the badge indicated Ludicrous. It could just be their new "Performance" badge.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I am waiting a year to purchase this or a Ludicrous. I am always contemplating a Plaid but its too big for my tastes...maybe i'll change my mind.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Standard range is the only one that uses LFP. The long-range uses China sourced NCM LG-chem packs. Nevada can't make enough Panasonic packs to supply all Model 3s. Most of them go to the Model Y and only a limited supply are there for the Model 3 Performance.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Honestly, you won’t notice. It’ll still feel like a rocket. Congrats on your purchase. I still love my M3P after 5 years.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Performance models use NCM from LG Chem in China. LFP isn't energy dense enough for the Performance models. US just gets better batteries overall.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The new M3P has different power characteristics than the old. I think the rear motors now generate 80% of the power vs. 65% in the old Model. Jason talked about why they tuned it for a staggered setup in the Youtube video.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

A full second slower to 60 is not slightly slower...pretty noticeable and significant. I wonder if downgrading to smaller wheels gives comparable ride given the 2 different settings on the M3P

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'd be surprised if it in the upper 10s range for the quarter. This is looking like a low 11s car. I'm still hoping they have a "1 more thing" by releasing a Ludicrous version later 😁
  13. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Nowhere near Plaid in performance...but also price. This thing is a great upgrade for the price. $53k is really good value

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

isn't the European spec 0-100km? That would add 0.2s
  15. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I guess it’s still the best deal out there. Cheap! I hope the 60-120 performance is better though

You had me at 2.7s. Show me the car Elon!

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Why don't you just get a lightly used Plaid for around the same price? The new M3P still won't feel like a Plaid.

I really like BMW malibu M3 color. Rivian (who has really great colors) blue is also very nice.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The Performance model needs a dedicated color. Makes me sad to see a Ultra Red standard range Model 3 😁

If that is without rollout, it's noticeably faster than the current M3P. Would rather see quarter mile and trap though. :)

I really hope they offer the 19s cause I’m not feeling those 20s

Did you PPF your new Tesla?

Honestly, an nice advantage of a full PPF installation is that if you are in an area with a ton of dust and you park your car for even 10 min, you get this slight dust layer. Drives me nuts after I just finished washing the car. With PPF, I just use a california duster when it has light dust...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It’s a track beast that can do 2 full Ring laps before thermal limiting. Highly impressive thermals and capability. Kind of a different market as most M3P owners aren’t hard core track folks but those that want more straight line speed and more range. Still not going to discount how impressively...

    IONIQ 5 N vs Model 3 Ludacris | Nürburgring

M3L will hit the thermal limit if the basic battery architecture isn't changed much. I5N can do 2 full laps of the Ring without thermal limiting. I bet it won't be that close. I hope i'm wrong.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

About half the range too. Yes, its probably a more fun drive but rather have a Model S LR for a bit more money (or used Plaid).
  27. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

$67k is quite a bit of money for that. I'd expect a lot from a $67k M3L. Of course if speed is your primary criteria, you can get a low mileage Plaid for that and only a handful of cars on the planet can even keep up with you.

    2021 M3P Battery Degrading Question

If you don’t need the range everyday, try charging to a lower state of charge. 90% seems excessive especially if you only need 30%. I charge mine up to 55% daily and use about 30%. I charge everyday. Helps keep the degradation much lower.

    Ventilated seats Highland

Some cars are better than others at this. My Lexus ventilated seats actually shot hot air into my back on a hot day which was worthless. My Kia EV6 is pretty cold...feels like i wet my pants even on a hot day 😁
  30. A

    2021 M3P Battery Degrading Question

Not surprising if you charge to 90% regularly and stays at high SoC.
  31. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The best part of the sports seats in the Plaid is that its heated and ventilated! Will probably be the same for the new Ludicrous.
  32. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Agree and I still love the extra oomph my current M3P provides. Give me the extra highway oomph with the adaptive dampers and 19s for a decent price and Tesla will have my money again. But please please don’t get rid of the ventilated seats. 😁

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The 55% strategy is much better for overall longevity. Go read the other thread and you’ll see that people that have employed that strategy for a few years have really good capacity left on battery. 80% isn’t actually that great for long term battery health.
  34. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Yes but as FastLaneJB said, you don't want to compromise useability. I don't need the entire battery most days so I charge enough to maintain battery to about ~50% majority of the time. I leave home with about 55% and use about 20-30% on most days. If I need more, I charge higher but my days...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I'm not saying cycles won't degrade it more but calendar aging has a bigger effect on overall degradation than merely using cycles. Most of the scientific evidence says below 55% SoC will half the degradation rate and the degradation rate between cycles is much less than vs. time. If you...
  36. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Most of it is lab tests on SoC over time vs. cycles in scientific papers. The thread is a great read and gives really good guidance on maximizing longevity for batteries. I could understand those that heavily track their car to have bigger degradation than average users but people mostly don't...
  37. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Completely disagree. Read the battery thread where there is a mountain of evidence that calendar aging is a much bigger contributor to overall degradation than cyclic degradation...
  38. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Doubt it. If calendar aging is the primary contributor to degradation, how is flooring the car once in awhile (or 0.0001% of its life) meaningfully contributing to degradation.
  39. A

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It would but not as much as an ICE if you can use regen to come to a complete stop. If you get to speed quickly on a long trip, you probably won't notice any less efficiency vs. slowly getting to speed as most of the energy used is keeping the car at speed.

Do you hand wash or car wash your Tesla?

You can always use a bigger orifice to reduce pressure. I think most detailers stick with something in the 2000 psi range.

Do you hand wash or car wash your Tesla?

https://a.co/d/8VwIcKQ You need a pressure washer for this. Most detailers / hobbyists have a pressure washer for serious car care :D

Do you hand wash or car wash your Tesla?

A little bit more info is that after the 1st rinse and 1st foam cannon, you let it sit for 5 min. During that time, I clean the wheels with the soapy foam (or if its really dirty, use a smaller bucket just for wheels). My whole process takes about 1-1.5 hours but I look at it as a hobby vs. a...

It’s a pressure washer attachment that puts a layer of soapy foam to loosen up the dirt and add lubricity to prevent scratching during the wash process.

The one thing I wish they had was an exclusive color to the Performance versions. I'm always a bit disappointed to see a shiny red Model 3 turn out to be a slow standard range version 😁

Western Road Trip in a Model 3

Just get the new Model 3 LR. Seems like it has closed the gap quite a bit in terms of refinement, noise, ride quality, and will probably be much much cheaper.
