My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

And such a principled stance is something that mercenary solicitors and barristers cannot understand or tolerate. I took a similar stance in litigation against Porsche several years ago over alleged emissions cheating devices (before the VW cscandal was exposed) and I refused to sign any NDA...

    Model 3 Performance spoiler

As soon as I took delivery of my car in 2019 I asked the SC to remove the spoiler and leave it off. They serve no purpose and look a bit naff I think. Much better without. Kept the spoiler in the garage for when selling the car on.

    Regenerative braking temporarily reduced message

There's a third condition that prevents regen, and that's regen overload. It happens when going down a long hill, where regen is constant for a mile or two, and basically the BMS will back of the charge level. There is likely a temperature/charge level condition that impacts when this happens...

    Unable to disable alarm..

I'm on the ferry a lot. You must trurn off sentry to disable tilt/intrusion. With sentry on the tilt/intrusion is greyed out and always on.

    Performance spoiler coming off

Shortly after taking delivery of my first model 3 in 2019 I had a service appointment to remedy a few minor niggles found at delivery. One of the niggles was the spoiler lifting. I asked them to remove it and they did so, no problem. I think the spoiler is a bit rubbish (strangely wife liked...

    Stated Range vs Real World

It's not so much the 20 inch wheels that are a drag on range, it's the big performance disks behind the wheels. That's a lot of extra rotating mass.

    Company Registered keeper query

Yes call Tesla. They will tell you to email them as they need it in writing to put you as regd keeper instead of company but they will do it. Check your order page a few days after sending the email to check they have put a note on you account.

Anyone regretted getting a Performance M3?

No. But I like the LR more.
  12. curmudgeon

    Company Registered keeper query

No, on the order page on my order it actually said REGISTER PERSONALLY. I think Tesla actually do the registration on the day of delivery or the day before, but will put the company name on by default unless it is marked as personal.

Alternative to UK VED (car tax)

Im in favour of either. Any variation in pricing should be congestion based, not road based, and there's no way that will be successfully implemented from day 1.

    New Highway Code Rules

Yes, I saw the Times piece a few days ago and the Grauniad comment, which deserves a read, earlier today. The Times has completely lost the plot.

    New Highway Code Rules

Yes indeed. Its' frightening to see emotions distort perception of reality like this.

    New Highway Code Rules

Do you pay to walk down the street? Because that has the same impact on the environment and others as cycling.
  19. curmudgeon

    New Highway Code Rules

Cyclists cause congestion! So if all those cyclists that annoy you so much were in cars, there would be less congestion? Are you on the glue? Let me think.... Run over by car or bicycle? Which one is best? I'll have the bike, you can have the car
  20. curmudgeon

    New Highway Code Rules

Because most UK cycle paths are poorly designed and/or dangerous. The good ones are used all the time. Look at Amsterdam.
  21. curmudgeon

    New Highway Code Rules

Cyclists. humph! They do not pollute the air, they make no noise, they cause no congestion, nor do thay wear out our roads, but how dare they not pay VED. They cause little harm in any collision but how dare they not be insured. I spend more than they do on transport so how dare they go...

Just guessing here, but seeing that your charging started an hour earlier than expected, have you checked the time zones are set correctly. Maybe your app or charger is set to a one hour offset from GMT.

Tesla Heathrow Service Center Detailers Experience

Take it to a detailer for a polish. My car had really bad swirls upon collection after Tesla washed it with a bucket of iron filings. It went back to Tesla for a promised machine polish. What actually happened was the car went round the corner for a wax to hide the swirls. Just accept Tesla...

    Company Registered keeper query

Apologies, what I wrote Thursday was complete rubbish. We were on a ferry after a long day, I think my brain went on strike. So, the reality is that tesla will by default register a company car on the v5 in the name of the company. That is what happened on my first M3 in 2019. Shortly after...

    Company Registered keeper query

Yes the v5 was in the company's name on my second car. The key is to send an email in and then check the order page, at least that worked for me.

OT posts from Q3 collection and delivery experiences [closing soon]

My blue LR came with loads of swirls. Don't pay silly money to get it fixed. My local detailer quoted £250 for polish and sealant.

    Road tax doom and gloom

Where's the news in this story? We all know that more EVs mean more congestion because cost per mile is far less than petrol/diesel. Electricity can't be taxed (but it and gas should be at 20p VAT) so road charging is a very sensible way to ease congestion. Its not the end of the world, rather...

Tesla Loan — avoid. Possible breach of contract by Tesla.

Oops, sorry, meant FO, the financial ombudsman service. And they actually require 8 weeks of unresolved complaint before getting involved. But are very good. OP, glad you got this sorted, as I thought, just Tesla not having systems in place yet. Looks like you are the first person to make...

Tesla Loan — avoid. Possible breach of contract by Tesla.

If this was me I'd email Tesla (dont bother phoning) asking for an explanation for the missed payment and the impact of the overpayment on the loan. Give them 7 days to reply or you'll be referringit to the financial ombudsman. You'll need to demonstrate to the FA that you have sought to...

Tesla Loan — avoid. Possible breach of contract by Tesla.

Could be this. Are Tesla loans on a flat-rate basis? If so then the interest is calculated at the start on the principal loan amount and added as a constant to each month. It is not calculated on the reducing balance hence the quoted rate appears more attractive than it really is. I have...

Stick with Sentry Mode/Tesla Cam or invest in Blackvue?

Power bank connected to the lighter seems the way to go for parking mode. There are reports around that connecting directly to the 12v battery results in error codes and a service visit to fix.
  35. curmudgeon

Stick with Sentry Mode/Tesla Cam or invest in Blackvue?

What is the parking mode event-detection sensitivity like on the blackvue? I have a VIOFO and the event detection in parking mode is way too sensitive so that it records 80% of the time, which is pretty useless really.

Cigarette lighter 12v constant power with Sentry on?

Not sure how your dashcam works, but I have a hardwire kit from the small battery to the dashcam. The battery mimicks a traditional hardwire setup, with 3 output wires to the dashcam, LIVE, ACCESSORY and GROUND. When the input to the battery (the ciggy lighter) is powered off, then the battery...

Cigarette lighter 12v constant power with Sentry on?

No. Sentry works very well I think. Not great resolution but the side cameras are great for capturing door slams. The only problem with sentry however is that it keeps the car awake, draining far more battery than a dashcam should. Sentry really does consume a lot of watt hours. So, to...

    BMW I4 prices and specs

Don't buy a Porsche. In 2012 I issued legal proceedings against Porsche GB for lying about a number of things including cheating various emissions tests. That was three years before the EPA exposed the VW scandal. Porsche eventually paid me 36k to stop the case being heard at the High Court...

Cigarette lighter 12v constant power with Sentry on?

How long have you had this running? There are lots of reports of 12v system errors caused by dashcams drawing 12v when the car is asleep.
  42. curmudgeon

Cigarette lighter 12v constant power with Sentry on?

I installed a cellink neo battery, powered from the cigarette lighter, the dashcam then powered from the battery. The dashcam automatically switches to parking mode when the 12v switches off (ie when parked) and uses a fraction of the watts that sentry mode consumes.

    Ceramic Coating

Don't bother with ceramic, just a decent sealant will do. If you are worried about stone chips on the bonnet then leave a gap to the car in front. The sills are a stone chip magnet, some ppf down there is relatively cheap and will protect your paint.

Tesla registered the car to someone else

I think I'd return it too. Ask for another with you as first keeper. It's Tesla's mistake. Can you see another one, same spec in the inventory? If so then Tesla will have no excuse finding you an identical car this month. If not then maybe change spec to match inventory.
