DC chargers suitable for EV towing trailers

We've done a few trips with a trailer and I detach every time. A few questions: * Where do people put their trailer? I am not very experienced and it can take a lot of time to park it in a legal spot. I've usually opted for further away where there is more room to attach/detach even if it take...

Bike Rack - Roof vs Trunk vs Hitch

I do not recommend the Yakima window rail mount version. I had a surfboard attached and the front rails detached last week almost smashing the roof glass. The clips are metal and tend to scratch, but I painted them in acrylic the same colour as the car to reduce the effect of scratches.

Replacing Tyres on Model 3 - Tesla versus Tyre store

We got Toyo 98W Proxes C100 Plus for our model 3 SR+ and we've found improved acceleration at take off, increased road noise and a significant range drop on wet roads. The range reduction in the wet was to the point where we dropped below 10% when attempting to travel between superchargers (150km).

    Model 3 Charging in Australia

I'm running V3.3.1 so it must be ESP32. I work around the problem by using a different wifi AP. I put the raspberry pi into AP mode and it seems to work just fine. I've put together a video of the setup, although I have glossed over many technical details...

Does anyone here have experience with programming OpenEVSE to divert excess solar? I connected my OpenEVSE and my Fronius inverter to a rasberry pi VM running emoncms. All connectivity works except the MQTT signalling which is required for the solar diversion functionality. I have an existing...

    Zappi Smart Chargers

Just normal AC mobile connector plugged into a GPO. The relay controls the supply of power to the GPO. It simply turns on when a threshold of solar power is available and then turns off when it isn’t. A very crude solution, but it works.

    Zappi Smart Chargers

I charge during the day from an outdoor power outlet (a GPO), The GPO is behind a relay which is connected to our fronius inverter. It isn’t perfect, but I have reasonable results with power coming on once 1000W threshold is reached. I only use the wall charger at night in cases when Ive done...

Would you, could you drive a ICE again?

Wife and I recently did a defensive drivers course in the model 3. A bit scary driving on the road after learning about road risks. However, I'm now even more scared every time I get into an ICE car. So, no, I don't drive an ICE unless necessary. I've pasted together all of our dashcam video...

A timestamp would have been helpful, but it is at least the start time is encoded into the filename. The model 3 definitely did not swerve. I acquainted myself with the brake pedal only when I saw it coming into my lane. Collision avoidance is normally fairly sensitive and will alarm at...

Apparently Sentry draws between 100-200W, so it should only eat up maybe 10% on a SR+. I tend to turn it on remotely at certain times and I notice a 1% drop only after a few hours.

Did anyone just get an email form Tesla about an owners symposium. The email says it’s on the 10th of October 2019 (a Thursday) but the blurb says they are running next Friday. I presume it’s actually Friday and just a time zone issue with the calendar.

I took a leaf out of Tesla’s book an decided to be really cagey to my daughters (4 and 9) about the exact delivery’s date. This paid off as they had to move the date earlier to get the car off the floor (they refer to it as Tetris). Had to come up with a new plan for the kids real quick. I’d...

Unfortunately, humans, including myself are periodically negligent. I cannot remove all sources of danger to my kids or other peoples kids. The work which I've done in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has me pretty convinced there is lots of scope in this area to eliminate this kind of human error.

I don't consider it a stretch as I was never going to buy an ICE anyway. I've been thoroughly disappointed with the slow progress of hybrid vehicles. In 2009 I decided that I will only buy a new car if it was an EV and I would have paid the $30k for a good EV in 2009. This translates to about...

My experience of watching a friend back his Prius into a pole has made me convinced these sounds are very worthwhile. Hi, There seems to be a myriad of choices for a "Type B" RCD suitable for a home charger on single phase. Is there anything I should consider other than these points: * It has Type B, DC and AC protection in accordance with AS3000:2018 * It has 1 pole plus a neutral pole * It has trip...
