Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I’m seeing reports that FSD transfers are in play again for Q2, for all four models (sans Cybertruck). Intriguing, esp with the Model 3 Ludicrous seemingly about to hit. Have not found a definitive from-Tesla source on this yet, though.

Whelp, that was an unmitigated disaster. Reminds me of early 2019--fun times! We recovered. Silver linings / associated thoughts: (which I firmly believe, as someone who's been closely following the company and its financials since 2012 but will nonetheless likely earn me a boatload of...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Oh, absolutely it's a contradition. To paraphrase Tesla Sage Earl, It's analogous to 'Appreciating Asset (Depreciating)'. But since 'Full Self-Driving' (ie back-seat riding) was a non-starter when it started (har har), still is, and always will be on current hardware, specifically calling...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Already disproven, as I've seen others having a similar reaction as me to 'Supervised.' As to whether it makes a significant difference now, well, that's a different proposition. Tesla made the bed they're in, and now they lie in it. My comment related to naming it better from the start...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Hot take: Supervised FSD is the correct way to refer to the product, and had Tesla done this from the start, 80% of the crap they've taken for FSD wouldn't have occurred.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.

Another fun tidbit--Lars mentions that in addition to the Semis being run by Pepsi et al, Tesla has 'close to' 100 in their own fleet making Fremont/Nevada runs. I'm not sure how many I thought Tesla had in active internal use these days, but it wasn't ~100.

Charging Tesla in Extreme Cold (SD, ND, MN, Canada) with 110V - Battery Heating Time at -20°C (-4°F)?

Great post that covers the available options, @Tronguy! My only quibble is with the last paragraph—you very much will pay for differing amounts of energy when comparing 120V, low-power vs 240V high-power circuits. The latter is far more efficient, and that’s before considering the much lower...

A market adjustment is extra cost for zero additional function. Tesla is force-including a bunch of stuff, but they are including actual stuff. It’s not the same thing at all. Seems like a smart way to mitigate the terrible early-ramp margins to me. If they are still selling only Foundation...

Have to wonder if this is their response to non-USS vehicles having absolutely garbage obstacle detection at present since restoring the old view has turned out to not be feasible in a reasonable amount of time.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

lolol. :) You know better, Singuy. Will be interesting to see the range extender pricing, but that is one heck of a jump from the reveal pricing, even after taking inflation into account. The middle option, AWD, 300+ miles, was to be $49,900. Instead it's $79,990. Inflation's been high...

    Far West Texas Charging

Agreed, in a way. Fewer and fewer places like that remain. However, speaking as someone who tried to have a family trip there and had to limit ourselves due to not having gotten one of the few lodging options with charging last time, I welcome this one!

Is Tesla trying to get minimize sales of X Long Range?

I don't understand the 6-seat requirement on Plaid, either. We need 7 for our needs, and if they offered Plaid with 7 at current prices we'd be considering replacing our 2019 LR.

Yes, and in other cases we get equipment on site and power on days to a week or two later. This is why Supercharge.info's changes list, filtered to open, doesn't really show spikes as ends-of-quarter approach. I hear you that they do sometimes have a target they want to hit for inclusion into...

    2023 Model X

Others have answered the question, but as an owner of a 2019 X and a 3, I have to mention that I haaaaaaattteeee having to go grab my fob every time I take the X. The phone key functionality has gotten so reliable that I really wish our X had it. Just not quite enough to get a new one.

I otherwise agree with your post, but had to chime in to correct this part. There are lots of speed limits above 75 MPH in the US. Much of the western interstate system outside of major cities is 80 MPH. There's even a very small stretch near Austin, TX that's posted 85 MPH.

Sure, but you just described the status quo, which this announcement is designed to fix. I'm curious as to the specifics as to how, but haven't seen any. But I think I've taken the thread on enough of an aside--the important takeaway for purposes of this thread seems to be that Tesla's now...

Has anyone found details of how this works? It sounds great, but walk me through it: JuicifyUSA applies for and receives cashola to install a new charging site. Gov't says cool cool cool, make sure it actually works. 18 months later, it's had 91% uptime. Now what? Is the government...

Here I lie, waiting to pounce... Shame on you for even saying it. :) The X is an amazing machine, and I hope it lives forever. It's also quite distinct from the Cybertruck in target demo and capability. It would be great if Tesla instead worked to raise capacity of S/X, bring the...

Well, you certainly have the chutzpah, if not the writing skill, to give it a go! Seriously, your best move is to calm down on publicly-accessible internet sites and contact a lemon law attorney if that's the route you want to pursue. You are actively harming your chances of achieving the...

    The recent price drop

Lol. This... is not how the world works. Go ahead and run the mental math on Tesla deciding that Geech72's feelings are more important than their fiduciary duty to shareholders to follow through on publicly-stated plans. OK. What does 'control over how the market dictates their prices' even...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Writing as an X owner who's gingerly entering the market for a new X--S/X buyers are absolutely price sensitive. Before the cut, to buy a new X with my current 2019 X's spec would have cost a full $30k more. The price creep was as absurd as that of the 3/Y. Also, I know the R1S isn't a...

    The recent price drop

This is wholly incorrect. Tesla's oft-stated goal is to get to 20M vehicles year, and each year they raise production ~50%. As 2022 dwindled, so did Tesla's order backlog, to the point that inventory at the end of the year was higher than they need it to be . They'll continue to raise...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This was inevitably coming. To replace my 3.5-year old X yesterday with the same options would have cost $30k more than I paid in 2019. It was ludicrous, and not in the good way. Tesla wants to get to 20M cars/year, and excessive prices aren't going to get them there. I think they rode the wave...

I'm looking at buying a home that has a panel which looks rather full to me. I'm interested in adding at least a 14-50 outlet in the garage, and perhaps a 60A EVSE instead. Also want to put at least modest solar PV on the home. I know we have some amateur and pro electricians here, so please...

Is a 3 night stay in Big Bend (no charging) crazy?

Which is why I'm talking about Tesla. The return is they close another 'difficult-to-travel' hole in their customers' landscape. One hosting a national park, no less. I took my 3 to Teddy Roosevelt in North Dakota in 2018, and far west TX makes ND look like a charging panacea.

Is a 3 night stay in Big Bend (no charging) crazy?

Looks cool--will definitely try to fit it in, especially if we don't head down to BBNP. And the more I think about it, Tesla could even put a 4-post HPWC install somewhere public with a 100A circuit and even that would make a big difference. Would be a pittance of a cost.

Is a 3 night stay in Big Bend (no charging) crazy?

Yeah, I imagine you're right. I'd just love to see even a minimal/'cheap' setup, eg the smallest grouping of urban SCs Tesla can put in. Even that would make a world of difference. On the one hand, I'm considering just skipping BBNP, as it may not be worth the headache on this trip since we...

Is a 3 night stay in Big Bend (no charging) crazy?

Great info, @growler23. I'm considering a trip to Big Bend for spring break in our X, and the actual day in BBNP is the only part I'm struggling with at this point, largely because the lodging options with 50A or Tesla service are all booked up. We have an Airbnb near the Alpine Stable 14-50...
