    rim damage

I often make my twice a week, 92 mile commute in the dead of night. There seems to be constant roadwork taking place over my stretch of road. So I changed my 19's to run flats and I also carry the 12v Tesla air pump and tire slime. That way if I pick up a nail in the middle of the night, I...

Etiquette a Businesses With Free Charging Stations

I think our obligation is directly proportional to the price of goods or services being sold at the establishment with the charger. If they are selling a $2 cup of coffee, it would be tacky to take a bucks worth of juice. On the other hand, if they are selling $1,200 (insert goods / services)...

    Where to hang a coat?

Elegant coat hanger solution As my search continues for an elegant coat hanger solution, here is my latest attempt: The hook is large enough to go over the steel header, not just over the plastic header cover, making them strong enough for a whole load of dry cleaning, rather than just a...

    Favorite Tesla Employee

My vote goes to.... Johnny Chen, Service Advisor, Melno Park gets my vote. I came in without an appointment. The place was slammed that day, but Johnny got me in and out and took all the friction out of the visit. Did I mention I didn't have an appointment? He took my keys, found the car on...

    Trouble keeping the car clean

Cleaner Car I went with the gray which is probably easier to keep clean than the darker colors. I'll share two tips that might prolong the life of a wash or detail and keep your car cleaner just a little longer. I've had good luck with the waterless car wash fluid that gives the car a very...

If I knew then, what I know now...

Option Suggestions The active air suspension works really well. It soaks up speed bumps like a dream and it's nice to be able to raise the car all the way up to avoid scuffs on steep driveways. I also find it easier to get in and out of the car in the highest position. I think it's one of...

    Idea for a trashbin

One of my pet peeves is that cars don't come with trash receptacle of any kind. Don't automotive designers live in their cars like the rest of us? So when I took delivery of my S with it's opportunity space between the front seats, I took the opportunity to installed a nice small stainless steel...

    Model S Modifications Thread

The shinny black plastic nosecone was the only styling cue I didn't like. The rest is spot-on to my taste. I used some matt grey car wrap film and then I overlaid it with clear matt paint protection film. I figured I could always peal it off if I didn't like it. So far... I like it. - - -...

    Model S Modifications Thread

Today's runflats ride very nicely. They've come along way. Not sure about the interface btw air suspension and the sidewalls, but I must say, the air suspension gives a remarkably good ride in the S. The TM suspension system is one of the car's highlights. Soaks up speed bumps like a dream.

An excellent aid for showing your Tesla... batteries!

When I give someone a ride in my S for the first time, I explain how TM tried to eliminate the 30 or 40 switches, knobs and buttons found on today modern cars, and place them all on the 17" touch screen. Then I explain how the Feds didn't let them eliminate the emergency flasher button, and...

    Front License Plate Solutions

California is one state that requires a front license plate. In this state it's a fix-it ticket, so I keep a pair of these Skene Design brackets around if I have to install a front plate without holes to get the infraction signed off.

Full body paint protection film does get pricey, but it's nice not to see any seams, and the finish is indistinguishable from the factory clear coat, only much tougher.

Going to the factory for a pick up?

I'd love to take a factory tour, but I guess for now, the only way to do that is while you're picking up your new car. How about a fair trade? I'll give you a ride to the factory from Southern California in my Model S, if I can tag along on your factory tour as your guest. I work in L.A. and I...

Battery Swapping/Rental for the Model S

In an interview I once heard Elon say that the S battery can be swapped out in one minute. Tesla's version of Better Place may be coming some day. I won't be surprised.

    What exactly is Paint Armor?

Today's water-based clear coats are not as tough as they used to be. The first time I closed the frunk, I left finger prints right in the clear coat. So I buffed them out and applied paint protection film. Paint prortection film can be applied in small sections or in full sheets. The problem...

    Model S - Window Tinting

I went w/ 3M Crystalline all the way around. CR 70 on the windshield, CR 50 on the side windows and CR 40 on the rear. On top of TM's low e glass, I should be staying nice and cool! It looks good too.

    Run Flat Tires

I commute at night, when there's less traffic in Southern California. The stretch of hwy 101 I cover always seems to be under construction with lots of road hazards. To avoid getting stranded, I mounted run flats on my S's 19" wheels. The new generation of run flats are much better; not loud or...
