    TeslaMate [megathread]

I used it for a year, trouble free, and the above then happened twice within the space of about a month so whilst I'm open minded and recognise I don't have the insight of the Tesla techs their logs and diagnostic tools, I remain somewhat skeptical about the conclusion reached. I've turned off...

    TeslaMate [megathread]

I have happily used a 3rd party datalogger app (Teslamate) for a little over a year and have enjoyed the stats it provides. Having an API, albeit not officially supported, is a great part of Tesla ownership and, like many of you I'm sure, it certainly it tickles my inner geek! Last week I put...

Great review! I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Holiday rentals - Do you ask if it’s ok to charge?

This has already been pointed out but your business model is likely to get you in trouble! You need to read this from Ofgem. https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/2003/01/1970-mrp_5.pdf

    2020.28.1

Replying to myself... There's a tweet saying it's a priority so fingers crossed!

    2020.28.1

It bugs be that Tesla can't read the speed limit. Other lesser cars can do that. Is it patented and they can't get a licence? Have they signed something in their initial partnership with MobileEye preventing them from doing this?

    Lockdown State Of Charge

Even pressing the power of button won't eliminate so called phantom drain, where charge is lost from the battery. (Not entirely sure what that button does because the car wakes up very quickly if you press the brake pedal so definitely it's not all shutdown!) Perhaps the most useful thing to...

    Does anyone wave anymore?

Driving along a country road the other day. Wife gives Tesla a wave. Didn't get a wave back. Slightly puzzled look on Tesla drivers face. Wife bemoans nobody waves anymore. I point out we're not driving a Tesla today. :-)

The most efficient EV I own......

Keep pedalling! That's like a hybrid who's battery efficiency is measured on a petrol driven journey! :p

    Black Screen

Had this the other day too.(software is 2020.4.1) Pressing brake pedal a few times, opening the door all did nothing but eventually it woke up by itself without needing a reset. Quite disconcerting but hasn't happened again.

    New Tesla Home Charger UK?

Looks nice. It might now be "smart" enough to attract the OLEV grant and hopefully they've included DC leak protection too...I guess we'll have to wait and see. I couldn't find any new manuals for it. (Personally I'm quite happy to have the older design because it's a relatively dumb device so...

    Excellent service - Bristol SC

I'd like to second this. We had a great service experience this weekend and the staff at Bristol SC have really restored my faith in Tesla customer service. Also, I think we may have met there... were you the nice gentleman that told us about the key fob? :-) I wish we'd got one sooner (Tesla...

    Interesting UK range test

For some geeky laughs : 6.5 kVA generator. Site says it can run at 3/4 load, 4.875 kVA, for 7 hours. So 4.875 kVA / 230 V = 20 A. (Lazily assuming power factor of 100% ... probably it's worse.) According to this Everything You Need To Know About Charging A Tesla a 20 A charge would get you 19...

Tesla Model 3, another charger recommendations

Everyone in the chain just pockets the free cash, either through hugely overpriced EVSE or inflated installation costs. From the taxpayer point of view the scheme is very poor value.

What is Tesla service like post delivery?

You might have posted on the wrong thread. Or it could just be me! I too prefer the wider single deck and also discovered traffic aware cruise control works inside the train too for a lazy loading experience! Sucks about Flexiplus - I guess you get either the lounge or the high car but not both.

    Tesla charger install

I think his cut-out fuse (the one provided by the electric company for the whole house) was 50 A. The actual over-current device (OCD) required (probably a circuit breaker rather than a fuse) will depend on the current carrying capacity of the cable used to connect it (which can vary due to...

    Tesla charger install

If an electrician falsely claims they're part of a competent person cartel how do they notify building control about the new circuit? I'm guessing they skip that bit too?

    Frunk Hooks

One of our local shopping centres offers EV charging using the blue commando adapter so I'm thankful it was included in mine.

    Two rear-ends in two weeks

Picture this. There was a car behind us with two people in the front. The passenger decided it would be a great idea to open the door and yell "Move!" at the top of his voice - even though we were standing in stationary traffic. Seemingly riled by our failure to comply he then reached across to...

    Wet in compartment under boot

I discovered a similar thing a few weeks after delivery and I think the water had been there a while! (Serves me right for not doing a full inspection on delivery I guess.) Anyway, I pulled apart the trim and removed the carpet for the boot compartment. It's a single piece held in by a couple...

EU directive reducing max charge rate to 60kw?

We're also going to France so I had a good Google trying to validate that but, like you, came up with nothing. Maybe contact Tesla to see if you get the same story. I'll be ok with 60 kW (in fact I wish it were settable because I do wonder if pumping 150 kW into the car battery does it any...

Yes, updated from 2019.27 to 2019.40.2 this morning. Quite an improvement! Caraoke makes me happy. :)

Get paid to charge your Tesla....

They might have brought that forward because I thought I read in The Telegraph that Boris plans to introduce a ban on gas boilers in new homes from next year! (Assuming he wins of course.)

Is my car actually charging at 10A ?

We have a dedicated meter on our Tesla circuit. When I set Tesla to 10 A, over the course of one hour the car drew 2.35 kWh. The voltage at the car (according to the car) was 235 V, so 2350 W / 235 V = 10 A. So yes your car draws 10A from the house. Hopefully most of that goes in the battery...

    Non-chill acceleration mode

Agree with this although I think a "chill mode" in reverse would be nice - having 2 mm of play between stopped and reversing at what feels like 100 mph seems crazy! :)

Give me a counter argument to this article. Please!

Some points immediately come to mind. Zero emissions in our towns and cities is something we should all desire for health and a pleasant living environment. Not all electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. Every year we move closer to more renewable sources is a win for electric...

    10,000 miles in a Model 3 (nearly) - Review

It's also possible he's got a TT setup (i.e. local earth electrode) so the PEN issue doesn't apply. His sparky friend would know that. Anyway I had a similar thought about the UMC so I looked at a video teardown of it and it appears the PE is indeed a straight through connection. Not that us...

    10,000 miles in a Model 3 (nearly) - Review

"These batteries will melt your house wires if a fault connects them, and without a DC sensitive RCD nothing will turn it off until the wires themselves fuse" Actually, I don't think that's the danger. An RCD is not an overcurrent device. It is there to detect leakage current - current that's...

    Home charging options

That's obviously controversial! I agree it's not 'hard' to install - but it's also easy to convince yourself of your own competence and end up with a dangerous installation. For anyone considering it... what earthing arrangements does your property use and how did you take that into account...

    2019/20 Orders and Deliveries [closed]

I completed all the outstanding actions there was a wait of about a week and then we got a phone call from Tesla to confirm the order. After that point it updated. HTH!

    Inventory M3 now available

I placed an order at the start of the month. I received a call from Tesla to confirm my order (not delivery date, sadly) and they said a boat was due end of October with delivery some time in November. What did your call say? (If anything?) :-)

Shafted by Blackhorse [title edited to reflect contents of thread]

That is indefensible and it amounts to changing the price after the order. Was the finance with Black Horse? I would also be interested to hear if anyone else suffered this because if they do that to me I will walk.

Tesla Model 3 vs BMW 3-series - a personal view

Great read, thank you for writing it. I have recently placed an order so out of interest, after placing your order, how long did it take to get more information / a delivery date?
