why does dealing with Tesla service have to be such an obnoxious experience?

I had my car in today. I had to authorise an estimate for £458 as part of the process. I dropped off early the day before the appointment. They valeted my car above and beyond my expectations (I wasn’t expecting). Had good comms all day on progress and the end invoice advised they found no...

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Not sure if it’s a function of the car firmware or the app version - but anyone discovered a way to turn off the “You’re home at 35% - remember to plug in” notification? I’ve paraphrased it as I’ve deleted it. Thanks - can’t find it in the app settings as an option.

    Crack in a CrossClimate 2

Thanks all - the local Tyre Pros swapped it this morning (Kwik Fit group still - just had an earlier slot than the main KF garage locally). The guys there didn’t think it looked safe either, and came across as genuine. Much happier now replaced. With a long Easter family trek ahead of me...

    Crack in a CrossClimate 2

Thanks all - good to do safety checks for Easter trips. With a magnifying glass on it you can just see the glint of a metal chord - maybe some rusty looking stuff too (not totally sure of that). Holding pressure - but not too happy driving at speed on it for any duration. KwikFit say it’s an...

    Crack in a CrossClimate 2

I was doing a tyre safety check on my M3 before a 200 mile drive at Easter - and found this on one of my six month old CrossClimate 2s: What do you think? Needs replacing or cosmetic? No idea of the cause of the crack - nothing on other tyres. Will run it by KwikFit later - but I understand...

Intelligent Octopus - Is This Normal?

+1 for setting a scheduled charge time during the standard IO window. Sometimes it can be at a time when IO doesn’t want to charge…but the charge limit on you car governs the endpoint of the charge - so no issue - HTHs

Bit of chrome came off passenger door handle

Thanks for the help guys. I want to buy my car at the end of the lease - so am keen to look after it. Your mention of replacement being a faff and wraps Durzel led me to try and find a clear wrap that went under around the full depth of the handle but I could only find ones that covered an 1/8...

Bit of chrome came off passenger door handle

Guys, A bit of chrome has come off the underside of the front passenger door handle on my December 2019 M3 tonight. Reports are, with the sun zero temps, it was sticky to open this morning - even after 20m of preheating. The other handles feel fine. The affected one has a seam underneath...

    EV servicing costs

    > brakes pads/discs Anyone a feel/experience for when an M3 is likely to need these replaced given regen? Mine’s a 2019 on 42k - just past an MOT with no brake observations — and the thread sparked the question in my head (as I’d like to buy it off the lease company in the middle of next year...

    App commands keep failing

Thanks George - that would match our experience. Other-half had to go out and stand by car to get it online - and our area isn’t the greatest mobile signal wise. First time it’s happened (2023.38.6 here last week or two IIRC)

Similar defrost issue here this morning at 0730 - M3 - assumed servers glitchy - car should’ve been on WiFi although can’t be sure.

    MOT recommendations - Dundee area

Had mine done for the second time by a local Kwik Fit yesterday. I just gave it to them this year without a printout of jackpoints as I did last year when they said they have EV training to handle. Just created a service profile so my seat settings weren’t messed up, unset pin-to-drive, and...

    > Michelin has a £100 cashback promotion for their tyres until the end of the year. (https://offer.michelin.co.uk/pim4-uk Sorry to be a pain guys - anyone have the code off an old Michelin newsletter banner? I think it’ll be a generic code non-individual if the codes they have on a banner I...

    MYLR all season tyres

Thanks Kelvin - I was lost how to take advantage of it. IIRC the offer is graduated by rim size. I’m speccing 18” x4 and I think it tops out at £50 as a result - you need 19” tyres for £100 - hopefully save you some disappointment!

    MYLR all season tyres

Guys - Form and Ts & Ca say you need a “Promotional Code” to take advantage of this - any idea where you get it (and if it’s unique to individuals or just a generic?). I can’t find reference to the promo elsewhere - so I’m wondering if it’s being buried.

The AA, Insurance etc renewal - why do we have to play these games?

Thanks for the heads up on the weirdly applied 50% sale that makes the numbers go backwards as you add things. I’m due to make my annual nomadic pilgrimage between the RAC/AA on the 1st November and used it in conjunction with Topcashback (reduces the discount to 40%) - getting the discounted...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Many thanks @PITA - useful information there. I’ll mentally peg it ant £8-10k for planning purposes. Especially interested in the glass stress element as I want to replace the patio door arrangement sooner or later too with bifolds.

LHS wing mirror sticks folded every so often

Forget to update - apologies. Ranger attended and did a couple of recall procedures. On the wing mirror he said that a Tesla Ranger would need to see it malfunction to replace it. There was some vague comments about keeping an eye on it. Was a bit of a waste of time (the car was fine ref...

LHS wing mirror sticks folded every so often

Thanks both - I’ve booked a Ranger visit for Monday (they’ll do the seat belt and trunk harness recalls too). Good to get sorted prior to the warranty going as you say pdk42. Will ask them what the issue/fix is + report back

LHS wing mirror sticks folded every so often

Guys, My 2019 M3’s LHS wing mirror sticks in every so often in the morning. A fold/unfold fixes it. 1-2 times a month right now. Any idea if it’s a Ranger job or just something that happens? Frequency/fix means I’m not too bothered - but wonder if it’s the start of a component failure curve -...

    MOT in Bath/Bristol area

After some fretting/over thinking it, I used a Kwik Fit last December - they were fine. 3yr old vehicle. Already trained on MOTing Teslas. Had pucks. Knew there stuff on asking for PIN to drive to be turned off etc. Saw a spirited brake test happen in the car park - that was it in terms of...

    Frozen windscreen washers

Had you got some pure water in the supply pipes? i.e. although you’d topped up with antifreeze screenwash it hadn’t propagated through the pipe work - or it was frozen to begin with even before you’d added he blue stuff?

Wiki Your first UK Tesla MOT? Checklist before the visit.

+1 for Kwik-Fit MOTs. M3’s are ten a penny in Surrey though.. Had a tyre done by their mobile fitters the day before - third M3 he’d done that day. He said they all go in EV courses now. MOT/tyre fitter had own pucks - and I left a note for the tester asking him to play nice with the jacking...

Peugeot people: My policy is up on the 10th of December and I called Peugeot today (15th Nov) to see where the renewal is as I'd like to sort. Offside rear click on acceleration/deceleration transition

As luck would have it - mine was in with the SC on Tuesday and they fixed this and the front suspension creaking like Clooney’s rusty old boat in a Perfect Storm. It had done it since pickup 2.5yrs ago, so now finally I know what a Tesla should sound like (or rather not sound like). Upper front...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Thanks Avendit - I’ve been through your old posts in the thread - sorry took a while to find them - see you’ve mentioned the effect of efficiency curves there. I’d have 8 NE, 6 SE and 4 shadier ones to the SW - 18x400w (anyone heard of DMEGC BTW?). Running a pvGIS based simulation (if that’s...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Interesting- how big was the day one percentage difference? Could it just have been the older inverter being on its last legs? I was interested as I’m prevaricating between inverter sizes + roof shading in autumn/spring here. If supply wasn’t an issue I’d go GivEnergy - but from what I...

    Powerwall versus Givenergy batteries

Guys - I had a GivEnergy installer around the other day for a quote. An interesting “why hadn’t I considered that already?” moment was regards the backup power supply arrangement needing a local earth in the event of cut-off from the grid supply. We live on a chalk hill. The soil is all of 2...

    Door dent

@MYLdn - thanks - apologies for the follow-up - but I had a look to see if rolling the windows down helped, and as they only partly descend, leaving most of the slot occupied I couldn’t see much of a gap. Was it just fore of glass? If so wow. That’s a small way in for tools. Also - I might be...

+1 on the how’d they get in question @MYLdn . I have a dent on the rear drivers side door on the swage line just the other side of where the door bracket is. Can’t see a way in. Need a mini fridge for the centre console!

My low tech solution is a plastic insulated cycling bottle ~1/5th full of water in the freezer the night before, laid on a slant. Top it up with water before departure. Insulation stops too much condensation as well as maximising cold lifespan. Slant means the ice isn’t stuck at the bottom away...

Long delay replacing Model 3 Windscreen

Guys, I know it's cold comfort to those without a car due to a crack - but just to say thanks for posting about all the problems/stock shortage. I picked up a chip in the B area of my windscreen at noon - around 10mm edge to edge, way smaller than the £2 coin test and outside of the 30cm...

Light vegetation scratches on near side

Thanks all once more. Admission: I’ve never polished a car. However - I noticed in my Chipex kit there was some polish - so gave it a go and the scratches are 60-70% gone. It even got rid of some bird poo residue mark left after cleaning on the bonnet. I’ll await the G3 to do the entire wing...

Offside rear click on acceleration/deceleration transition

Thanks for the replies. It’s an M3. @melduk - sounds like it’s the same thing as you have (mine’s drivers side - but perhaps only as that is the window open/where my ears are). I too feel it’s intermittent - perhaps weather/window open vs closed. Happier someone else has it/will just assume a...
