    Model 3 Highland Performance

Both the US and MIC cars are battery limited, the power limit of the MIC LG battery being less than the Panasonic battery, thus the lower stated power. The MIC LG battery also charges slower, and has less capacity, so the car also has less range. So, in the UK, we pay way more than in the US...

    Brake Lights.......at standstill

I’m with richrootes on this one. On all my previous manual cars I apply the handbrake when stopped, not the footbrake. As he said, when it’s wet or dark, and you are sitting in traffic, brake lights on the car in front of me hurt my eyes, especially as every other car seems to be a tank of an...

    Tyre Wear

That is caused by excessive toe, I suspect well out of limits. On the Performance model, due to the standard camber being quite low, driving it hard through corners will give you excessive wear of the outer edge, not inner. Camber on it’s own won’t cause this sort of wear If toe is low. I run -2...

Tesla Announces Recall Of Almost 2,800 Model 3s Built between 2019 - 2021 & Model Ys built between 2020-2021

That’s just bad engineering practice. When fitting a part which is secured by more than one bolt, all bolts should be engaged loosely into their relevant threads, before torquing them all evenly. Fitting and torquing one bolt first is a schoolboy error!

Track noob, need advice on my local track layout for car setting on camber

Do you want different grip levels on left and right handers and a car that turns under braking? If not, set camber the same on both sides.

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Ultimately, it’ll be down to the height of the caliper. The Porsche 6 pots are slim! No, not yet, it’s on the to-do list, but that‘s a bummer if they foul. I’ll have to look at machining down the calipers on my mill.

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

I use the NT03+M (amongst others!) in the same size on my Evo, and the discs are 365mm.

    UP vs MPP Coilover

I fitted the front lower arm bushes with my 10T press no problem at all. Helps to have experience of such things, like heating the arm to 100 deg C before pressing out old bushes and pressing in new ones.

    Rear Toe alignment preferences

I probably shouldn’t compare my Evo to a Tesla, as the suspension geometry is different, but slight toe-in at the rear and toe out at the front worked well on track at all speeds. Car also has plated diffs front and rear, and spring rates and anti-roll bars set-up for zero understeer! I tried...

    Rear Toe alignment preferences

Jeez, that must be scary at high speed corner entry! On my race car, I run the opposite, toe-out at the front for decent turn-in with slight toe-in at the rear for some stability.

Will stock M3P rotors be able to withstand the bites from Carbotech Xp24/Xp20 ?

I’ve used XP24’s very hard on track in a Renault Megane RS Cup, with the standard Brembo discs, and the discs were fine in regards to wear. They did suffer a bit in regards to heat, as did the calipers that were permanently discoloured after one full trackday. As with all discs and high...

    Rear Toe alignment preferences

More toe-in at the rear improves stability and reduces rotation speed into a corner in my experience because the outer rear wheel in a turn is always trying to straighten the car due to it’s increase in slip angle. Same with the front end, toe-in will increase understeer, but improve stability...

Steering Rack Errors and Replacement [car out of warranty]

The electronic side of the ABS module on my BMW E90 failed a year out of warranty, a new part was £1750 + fitment. I bought a second hand unit and fitted it myself. A month later the steering column produced a fault and BMW said it needed replacing at £1000. Again, I removed it, worked out the...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Hey, I respect your honesty, and if you’re after looks over dynamics, then go with what you like. If you’re not pushing the car to the limits, you won’t notice understeer anyway. It’s a shame you can’t stretch to the Signature SV602, as they tick all the boxes!

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

If it were me, I’d fit some lightweight 20x8.5 or 20x9 wheels, square, with Tesla spec 235/35/20 PS4S tyres. These tyres have the tread width of a 255 tyre, but with the benefits of being developed for the Model 3. Those TSW wheels you mentioned are around 30lbs each, so pretty heavy, which...

    LSD (limited slip differential) anyone?

Yep, and the OEM bearing preload or clearance specs are critical to ensuring the bearings don’t die prematurely and driveline backlash is kept within OE limits.

What are you going to use the car for, with these wheels/tyres?

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

To reduce understeer, I’d personally try to increase grip at the front rather than reducing grip at the rear by fitting a bigger rear bar.

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

I just want to add, in an ICE car, one of the reasons front and wheel diameters need to be within a certain range is because they are mechanically linked via the transmission components, and a permanent mismatch of speeds can ultimately damage those components (depending on the car and system...

Why do Tesla need 2 motors for AWD?

Because having one engine that drives all 4 wheels is a terrible design that adds complexity and weight, but is the only realistic architecture with ICE vehicles. The best design would be an electric motor inboard of each wheel.

Vendor We're the makers of 3D MAXpider KAGU Floor Mats.

I fitted your mats to my Model 3 before this winter, to give a bit more protection as I walk my dog in a muddy field every day. They’re superb mats, they fit great, and due to the lip, keep all the dirt on the mat. The best part though is how quick and easy to clean they are. I remove them, hose...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Great info Danny, you've made my day! I don't need to drill out the stud holes, as they are as you said 15mm. Props to Enkei, I now have my track wheels, with only hubs rings to make! Good news for anyone else who has Enkei JDM wheels that can now have dual use.

Martian Wheels MW03 - New discussion thread

You seem to be missing my point. I don’t care that some wheels are over the advertised weight. You’re the one getting your panties in a twist over it. That’s the whole point of my reply. Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

I’d personally check to see if the manufacturer supplied the same wheel with fitment onto a car with M14 studs. If they don’t, I’d look at the wheel design and material spec, then make a judgement from what I find.

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Ok, great, so the Enkei NT03+M I have for my Evo 6, will fit straight onto my Model 3, in regards to the M14 studs? I haven’t checked as yet, but will tomorrow. The WRX has M12 studs, as does the Evo.

Actually, checking the figures I wrote down, it was 1kg, so 2.2lbs. So what is the acceptable limit? Perhaps you should e-mail TSW and tell them your displeasured about their wheels that you’re never going to buy. So, I take it you’re reporting all these companies via the correct legal channels...

Yep, and it‘s an indication of lack of experience and ignorance. I’ve lost count of the amount of wheels I’ve purchased over the last 30 years, and it’s completely normal for wheels to come in over their advertised weight. The last set I bought were TSW‘s, which were 1lb over their stated...

    2020 7k brake Grooves

I’ve bedded in my pads, and for me it definitely helped. The brakes feel great on my M3P, road use only so far, but they get used hard when I go for a proper blast. (Threshold braking multiple times from above 100mph)

    2020 7k brake Grooves

Why are you so predisposed about what your discs look like? The car is an EV with regen braking, but you seem to be comparing the ‘look’ of the discs with previous ICE cars you’ve owned. Childish comment? It was a joke. Jeez, lighten up man. 90% of people I see on track have very low driving...

    2020 7k brake Grooves

Nope, that is not hard usage. My discs looked exactly like yours before I used them properly. Anyway, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your brakes. The problem is the strength of your legs by the looks of it.
  38. Clivew

    2020 7k brake Grooves

And? My discs looked exactly like yours, due to very little and light brake usage when daily driving. I then used the car hard for an hour, and the discs look like this. Notice the discolouration? If your discs don't have this, you haven't used them hard.

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

What I’ve noticed about XP10’s is that they stay quiet if used hard, but if pampered, after a while they seem to glaze and will then squeak when used at low speeds. After a good hard stop, they are quiet again.

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

I do agree with this, but occasionally a company will design a wheel that is both strong and light, that isn’t forged. One in particular that I have previously used is the APEX ARC-8. These are used by many BMW owners doing hard track work, myself included on the very bumpy Nurburgring amongst...

    M3P with 19" sport wheels?

I’m swapping to forged 18” wheels on my M3P for daily use. I’ve extensive suspension mods on the car as well. The lighter wheels and higher profile tyres will improve comfort and suspension performance due to a lower unsprung weight.

    Sway Bars or Coilover (or?)

My problem, what, because I ask relevant questions of why you need to fit Ohlins 4 way suspension to a road car, and ask how are you going to set it up correctly? If you want the suspension to work properly, you will need proper data logging along with the relevant experience to enable you to...

    Sway Bars or Coilover (or?)

So you will have data logging and high frequency sampling of the suspension, yes? No, something isn’t as difficult if you are an expert in it, with plenty of experience, but unless you are, how do you know how difficult it is? How many suspension histograms have you analysed to enable you to...

Concerns over Model 3 Performance brakes efficiency. How good is it? After market brakes?

I personally always try to threshold brake, even with ABS, unless it's a motorsport system, such as the formentioned Bosch M5. I do initially smash the pedal into ABS, then modulate brake pressure to suit. One of the reasons is that the standard ABS is calibrated for road tyres, so once you use...
