Skipping initial v11 in favor of 2022.4?

I didn't install the initial release of v11 because several important to me features were missing. With the addition of a button to start a dashcam recording, I'm willing to download 2022.4. Will my car download 2022.4 if I never installed the initial v11? Or do I have to tolerate that version...

Trip screen prediction always wrong Model 3 Performance 2021

My energy graphs have always looked like this, and I've speculated the same (2019 Performance with the massive non-aero wheels). Have you also noticed that the battery indicator in miles remaining (or km remaining, as the case may be) is always laughably optimistic? This is why I do all my trip...

    Supercharger - Firebaugh, CA (I-5 / West Panoche Rd, LIVE 13 Nov 2020, 56 V3 stalls)

The driver's seat has a weight sensor too. That's how the car puts itself in park when I unbuckle in my driveway and lift my butt off the seat to grab something from the back. Also, I bet @bmah is about to tell us to get back on topic. 😁

Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA - Bernard Dr. (LIVE, 56 V3 stalls)

As @ElectricCyclist mentioned, about 20 stations were roped off. And of the stations that weren't roped off there were probably around 5 available (although I didn't stop to actually count). So that's correct, not completely full.

Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA - Bernard Dr. (LIVE, 56 V3 stalls)

I charged here around 11 this morning. I saw 212 kW when I started charging at 17%. Most of the available chargers (the ones not wrapped in caution tape) were in use at the time. Pro tip: for now at least, there's still fencing around most of the lot. You have to enter by going straight from...

Holiday travel availability / congestion at CA Superchargers; possible solutions, complaints, comments, discussion

I stopped at KC2 at 11:20 this morning. They had about 1/3 of the chargers closed off with caution tape wrapped around them. The first charger I tried to use (not a roped off one) wouldn't latch and I had to move to a different one. By the time we got back to the car after eating, the place was...

Holiday travel availability / congestion at CA Superchargers; possible solutions, complaints, comments, discussion

I'll be going to Kettleman 2 by default from here on out (assuming availability of course) because that's where the In-n-Out and Starbucks are. Amenities are important!

Holiday travel availability / congestion at CA Superchargers; possible solutions, complaints, comments, discussion

So... How's Thanksgiving weekend travel going out there? Anyone reading this while waiting in a super long line? Anyone choose the 99 instead of the 5 since there's more Superchargers now than there used to be? We're making the trek from south to north on Monday, then back next Saturday. I'm...

Speed limit signs my M3 did NOT see

Mine finally started working today, yay! I noticed similar behavior but I chalked it up to it resetting after passing through the intersection. Who knows what the algorithm is doing under there.

Speed limit signs my M3 did NOT see

Are you saying the speed limit sign shows up in the visualization with the car, in addition to the existing speed limit display? I haven't seen that. Maybe I just need to be more patient?

Speed limit signs my M3 did NOT see

Is anyone's car not setting the speed limit based on normal, white speed limit signs on local roads? There's two places in my commute where the actual speed limit is very different from what the car thinks it is (Actual: 55, Tesla: 35 in one location, Actual: 65, Tesla: 45 in another). I was...

    Thanksgiving Travel Predictions

We usually try to get an early start to beat the crowds, regardless. Seems even more important with the Tesla. My husband would love to go at night, just not sure if I want to deal with cranky kids who won't sleep well in the car. (Seems like no matter what, someone in the family is going to end...

    Thanksgiving Travel Predictions

We've done two road trips this summer in the Tesla, one being this exact drive from LA to Sacramento, the other going out to Colorado to visit my parents. It is an AMAZING road trip car. I swore up and down I wouldn't drive out to Colorado with the kids in tow (2 boys, 8 and 4), but we didn't...

    Thanksgiving Travel Predictions

Okay gang, I know it's still more than two months out, but I'm a total planner at heart, and I'm already thinking about Thanksgiving travel. We'll be driving from northern LA county to Sacramento to visit family for Thanksgiving. Do we brave the Superchargers over the holiday week/weekend? Or...

    Road Trip Planning

With all the customization ABRP allows you to do, I'd prefer ABRP be accurate instead of pessimistic. I'm not willing to give my Tesla account password out to third parties, so I think I'll try to back-calculate my actual reference consumption.

    Road Trip Planning

And the results are in. The car expected me to use 12% on the way to work, and I used 14%. It again expected me to use 12% on the way home, and I used 16%. So extra A/C and a headwind did impact the accuracy, but it was still overly optimistic in better conditions in the morning. I feel like...

    Road Trip Planning

@AxlxA I'm going to actually pay attention to the SoC calculations for my drive to/from work tomorrow. That should provide an interesting comparison: 35 miles at highway speeds, 70s with a slight tailwind in the AM, in the 100s with a stiff headwind in the afternoon. We'll see if the accuracy is...

    Road Trip Planning

@AxlxA what do you mean when you say rated limit? The speed limit was variable, from 55 mph in the curvy mountain parts, to 80 mph across most of Utah. When you say it sounds like 1% every 10 minutes is a lot, it makes me wonder if the car is using rated range with aero wheels, not my actual...

    Road Trip Planning

We just got back yesterday, and I figured I'd post how it went down for posterity. We stuck to the ABRP plan on the way to Colorado, and we used the in-car nav on the way back home. I think the in-car nav is better for our family because it tends to prefer fewer, longer stops. I think that...

    Road Trip Planning

Does the in-car estimate use rated range, or actual range based on your car's efficiency? With the Performance rated the same as the LR, I find rated range/efficiency laughably wrong.

    Road Trip Planning

I'm planning a road trip for next week, from SoCal to Colorado, and I'm curious what assumptions other folks use while planning. I'm using A Better Route Planner, and I have a Performance with the 20" wheels. I started with that version selected, but the default reference consumption seemed...

    Car Sick

I'd just like to point out that some kids (like my 7 year old) are just prone to car sickness. My 'spirited driving' style surely doesn't help, but I've made him sick with gas powered cars just as easily as the Tesla. When your kiddo turns 2, you can use Dramamine. That's my best solution. Or...

Any down side to buying a “Tesla Fleet Vehicle” with a couple thousand miles?

I picked up a demo back in December, it had been built in September and had 600 miles on it. It had exactly the specs I had ordered. They gave me $3k off, and I *didn't* have to buy FSD. It was listed as having FSD, but I didn't order that, so they didn't enable it. Super happy with my purchase.

    NHTSA Vehicle Speed Control Complaints

Out of curiosity, I looked at NHTSA complaints against the 2018 Toyota Camry, and found several complaints of unintended acceleration. Same for the 2019 Honda Accord. If you go looking, I bet these complaints exist against most cars, it's just been blown out of proportion with Teslas.

    Supercharger - Woodland, CA (LIVE 19 Nov 2020, 12 V3 stalls)

Yeah, I know there's chargers at the elementary school within walking distance from my husband's parent's house. My husband is just fairly sensitive to inconvenience, so I don't want the Tesla to be the cause of inconvenience and then have him say we're never road tripping in it again.

I'm hoping this is built by June. That'll greatly help my campaign to convince my husband to bring the Tesla instead of the ICE SUV when we go visit his family in Woodland. Off Topic: I stumbled my way to @EVnut 's webpage from the above links, and it was fascinating to read about the GM EV1. I...

    Funniest Tesla Question Thread

Not a dumb question, but a dumb comment: I told my coworker I was getting a Tesla, and he told me not to run him over in the parking lot.... you know, because it's silent, and I guess I'm going to stop looking where I'm going? I had no clue what to say to that. On the positive side of things...

Postscript - 2,000 Mile (and Back) Road Trip with Two Kids

This is awesome. The most useful tip I'll take is the idea of the suction cup iPad mount on the roof. I'm working on convincing my husband to take the Model 3 up to Nor Cal instead of the ICE SUV next time we go, but we're spoiled by the built in DVD player in the SUV to entertain the kids...

Model 3 20” Wheel Swap? I have silver, if you have grey and want to swap, contact me, Santa Cruz CA

Most of the people in the performance waiting room were really stoked about the gray wheels, so I'm not sure how much luck you're going to have. Have you thought about power coating your silver wheels to gray? I'm considering that myself.
