I figured it out. I had two iMessage threads going from my wife. One was using her phone number, the current one was using her email address. I deleted the thread that was using her email address and now it works as it should.

For me, when I press the button on the steering wheel and send the initial text to her, it goes through. But when she replies and I try to reply back, it says send failure now with the new update. Before it just didn't send and I never knew until I got home and she wondered why I didn't answer...

I'm having the same issue, it only doesn't work with my wife. Maybe it has something to do with being on the same cellular account? Did you ever find a fix?

Yeah she's using the standard messaging app. Her messages come through the UI, but when I reply and then send they don't actually send. We just got new phones today so I'll test it out later and see if it's fixed.

Mine was doing the same, I went into the Bluetooth settings in the car and clicked forget this device. Wasn’t easy to get because it kept disconnecting and connecting so quickly. After that I re-paired my phone and it’s worked perfectly ever since. It’s been over a week without issue.

I can remove my charge cable while charging by pushing the button on the cable even when the car is locked and phone not connected to Bluetooth. It is below 41 degrees but I haven’t been able to test this in warmer temps yet.
