    Model 3 12v battery dead

Yes. There is so much that needed information is hidden in the noise. I am in the process of dealing with the problem now and seeking how to start a car that now has good 12v but remains dead. A request for service through the app, resulted in a mobile service appointment. About 10 days...

Anyone using Tesla App on ChromeOS successfully?

The "rotate screen" helped a lot, thanks. Control and full display are still problems. A browser interface remains much needed. This on a HP Chromebook x360. Has anyone had complete success on some other Android capable Chromebook?

    SuperCharger - Denton, Tx

I just discovered that Tesla has added some urban (75kw) chargers to the old 150kw in Kingman. Seems like a good cost effective solution for a site that is over used but only at times.

Will SolarCity H6 work in a rogue off-grid setup?

I haven't been paying attention to this thread recently but just revisited and found much of interest. My goal is to just use the H6 grid tie. After much trial, I've discovered that the Santan used panels I am committed to using do not work reliably with H6s. Or ANY transformerless inverter...

The latest systems components y'all getting from Tesla these days?

These people looked VERY promising; String Optimizers - Ampt However, the response to a query was "Thank you for your email. We do not deploy with SolarEdge"

Optimizers... what are they good for?

I have a transformerless 7kw 3 tracker SMA that worked pretty well for a while. It quit working and I never devoted myself to dealing with it's software access; I just hooked it up and observed production. I'd like to know more about SMA grid guard. I'll try googliing up. I had high hopes...

Optimizers... what are they good for?

Do you have suggestions on less troublesome transformerless? Something with variable isolation threshold or defeatable? Using ground mount and cheap used panels, there is a lot of safety stuff that I just don't care about. I can live with a single tracker. My newest project is installing a...

Optimizers... what are they good for?

Thanks but I don't "a" inverter. I need 10+. I've tried quite a few and found the old transformer inverters are trouble free compared to the newer transformerless. There has been a good supply of 4kw SMAs on the market but I did not buy enough and they seem to be no longer available. If you...

Optimizers... what are they good for?

Incidentally, I've had good success using inverters (both string and micro) that do "double duty" with both east and west facing panels.

Optimizers... what are they good for?

This is a topic of high interest to me right now. Some 5kw surplus SE inverters have come on the market recently for <$400. I BADLY need to learn how to use them without the expensive optimizers. Any suggestions? I have a test inverter which I have not been able to get to work. The next...

    Perks for early adopters

Well, I have to say that I've had a very poor PowerWall experience also. My very early PW deposit is still sitting in Tesla's coffers; three years after the deposit it became clear that Tesla was not going to deliver, I bought a PW through an installer and had a poor experience there also...

    Perks for early adopters

I wonder if Tesla is considering offering perks for early adopters? I've bought four, the first ordered in December 2012. The first three purchases went very smoothly but they badly botched the last one, 2-3 years ago. That is essentially the only sour experience I've had with Tesla. I still...

Supercharger - Kalispell, MT (permit Feb 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

For what its worth: Last summer I drove my ~300 mile 3 from Missoula up the east side of Flathead Lake through Glacier NP and on to Ft MacLeod. It was semi-close. The slow driving in and around the park is pretty efficient.

Will SolarCity H6 work in a rogue off-grid setup?

I FINALLY got one of these hooked up! It seemed to almost work. It complained about, as I recall, line frequency and line voltage. From other sources, my frequency is dead on 60hz; the Delta was reporting 59.7. Line voltages were a bit high, around 245. I suspect that the unit may be...

Will SolarCity H6 work in a rogue off-grid setup?

Even though I have a PW2, I'm not "up to speed" on Power Wall lore. Thanks for mentioning that there are/were DC PowerWalls. So, this "H6 Hybrid" is dependent on a DC PW as a battery rather than tapping into the current PW2 somewhere. Though it seems, if one could learn enough about the...

Will SolarCity H6 work in a rogue off-grid setup?

I can't add much here but will watch with interest this thread. I have two of these inverters, neither yet in service. My interest is a grid tie only, no off grid or battery use contemplated. Though I AM interested in the capabilities. If the first one goes into service with no surprises, I...

"12V Battery Need Service" error and aftermarket sound system

I come here from the V2H supplement thread: Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender I find the information linked to here HIGHLY useful. Thanks! It would also be useful to know if/when S/Xs adopted the scheme of restricting DC-DC power to the 12v battery. Anyone know? Recall how troublesome...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

Thanks! I had concluded that the Tesla was monitoring 12v demand somewhere down stream from my battery tap. I was intending to look for that CT or monitoring point today but not beyond the area of the battery. With your information, I will not waste that time and may seek the right point in...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

The second night test of the Tesla (Model 3) was not successful. I ran the car in "Dog Mode" hoping that would allow the car to give up more DC-DC power. But, with a demand of less than 500 watts, the car's 12v voltage continued to decline prompting the car to eventually complain about low...

Thanks, I just ordered a 1080w. gpez pointed me toward other, persumably higher quality boosts but I got sidelined when they tried to hit me with ~$60 shipping. As you observe much identical stuff is sold on Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress. On the 12v grid ties, I ordered one on Ali, the other...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

Exactly. An additional PW will cost at least $5k and will be used a very small fraction of the time. Once a year. Once a lifetime. Never. Preparation is my goal. Cost effective preparation. We all have EVs that have large batteries compared to a PW. Cost for this supplemental power...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

AFAIK, all grid tie inverters can be turned off by the PW through frequency shifting; M215s are an example. For the purposes being discussed here, the PW is highly unlikely to want to turn off inverters; that mostly happens after the PW battery is fully charged and there is no place to use...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

The first of the 12vdc -> 240vac grid tie inverters arrived yesterday. I tested overnight. Input: 14vdc and 250 watts; power was significantly lower at 12vdc (that is, with the EV DC-DC off). Output was 211 watts into 240vac. Disappointing efficiency especially compared to M215s. To make...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

The purpose of the exercise is to take up some of the load on the PW battery. As long as the PW battery is not completely charged or discharged, the PW wil manage power flows appropiately. I have been doing my testing at night but connected to the grid. The effect, when I am successful in...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

It is quite likely you will have the troubles mentioned if you boost 12vdc to ~24vdc. The "Eco Worthy" is not likely to be any more trouble free than the M215s. While waiting for my 12vdc grid tie inverters, I am experimenting putting a 36vdc battery on the output of the 12v boost. There is...

I really look forward to testing 700-800 watts out of the car's DC-DC. If all goes well, maybe three of those 250/500 watt inverters. The nice DC power meter with shunt you specified should do 1200 watts so I should be able to monitor for safety. I wonder what it will cost to replace a blown...

Many thanks to miimura for starting this thread and bringing to my attention the possibilities. I have unsuccessfully struggled to get it working with M215s. I have branched off and ordered two 500w 12vdc -> 240vac grid tie inverters. It'll be a few weeks before I can test. If I come...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

Can you explain the statement about "API"? I have a stiuation where my peak PV production may not be accepted by my utility supplied tranformer. At such times, my voltage does rise to the point where PV inverters are shut down. That, typically, is around 260vac. For instance, my 15kva...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

For off grid operation, I believe the PW will attempt to turn off PV generation by shifting frequency when it finds more power supply than demand. Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

Looking ahead to the time when this scheme, with M215s, might be proven to work: I don't hope to automate operation to the PowerWall level but I will be looking to switching generation and car charging on and off based on time of day. Probably charge car from 10am until 4pm and generate from...

    Powerwall 2.0 Backup Runtime Extender

For M125s, the inverters turn themselves off when voltage reaches around 260. For off grid, where the PW is supplying the grid signal, the PW will turn M215s off by frequency shifting when there is more power than load.

I am much taken with this idea. I have a good supply of M215s and intend to do some testing in coming weeks. I hope to get 4-5 M215s working on a single power source. Of course, I will test one inverter, then go from there. BTW, the M215s are being sold for less than $40. Sadly, it still...

Good points, all. Since Tesla has denied me app access, I don't have that to lose. Apart from a customer's internet connection, I believe the gateways have cell phone access. There are two knobs on the top of the gateway housing that are likely cell phone antenna. I wonder what happens if...
