I just went through this process. You need to get your car inspected before you go to dmv. (it cost around $8) Other than that, all papers from tesla are good for registration.

Did you get any communication that papers are in transit? Or they just showed up one day?

Thanks dmkorten, Unfortunately Tesla had discontinued this process and they even did not collect sales tax in our original payment. So we will be getting just the registration papers and no plates. We have to go to DMV after that.

Did anyone get delivery of car after 1st jan 2020 in texas? How many days did it take to get registration papers from Tesla and did you get plates from DMV immediately?

I am waiting for my LR+3 delivery on 3/11/2020 in Plano, TX. My DA clearly told that Tesla used to handle sales tax and registration till 12/31/2019 and starting 1st Jan it is stopped. They will send papers within 30-45 days after delivery, which we need to take to Tax office and get plates...
