HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

True I got a warning too but ignored it because it happened after a rare cold night in San Jose and that is the hardest for a battery. So I am sure the voltage dipped below some threshold and triggered the warning. After the weather warmed back up it did not come back. While the car was in the...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

Mine did the same but the 12V battery was probably 4yr old. When Tesla hooked their jumper pack to the car it started smoking and smelled like rotten eggs. The guy said it has the same battery inside the jumper that is used in the car and they need to be replaced every few years.

Please Help... Tesla Model S: Maximum battery charge level reduced (cannot get past 20 miles)

My car was in the shop for a battery replacement and I pushed back and just last week they said they made a software fix in the shop. Could it have been released over the air and just taken time to adjust? I remember there being a software update just before all my error codes started popping up...

Car died and SC say must replace battery out of warranty

I think you should talk to WK057. WK057 provided information in my thread but I think it would help his case if he fully disclosed what exactly his shop is doing. From what I know with some educated guessing here is what I think WK057 does for a battery replacement. His shop is authorized to...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

So far my vehicle is at least functional but I still have doubts about it's long term reliability and I really had to push back on the service center based on what brief information and background I was able to dig up from this forum. Also the only communication they would process was messages...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

There have been a lot of messages back and forth with the service representative where I felt like I had to guide them through the repair process. I kept asking them to diagnose the root of the faults and stop "swapping" parts. They replaced the rear drive unit because of the DU Isolation...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

Thanks for all the information and honesty you bring to the forum. When I was making a decision on the repair I saw the transportation to and from a 3rd party as a lost cost. Going it fairly blind these failures and repairs really suck.

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

They just messaged me and said it is a DU Isolation. So some insulation breaks down over time, or perhaps AC leakage, and they are measuring this? I am an electrical engineer that works on battery and brushless motor drives and would love to see some explanation of this. Still two somewhat...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

Attaching pictures of error code several days before and day of shutdown. After the vehicle went dark we had to use a booster battery to wake it up and get it into tow mode. Several days later I came back to the vehicle and woke it up again and wanted to grab some diagnostics from the CAN bus...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

The car shutdown when I was in park waiting at the service entrance queue. Also under warranty the rear drive was replaced but it was quite a while ago and who knows what I got in exchange. I don’t remember if the replacement was because of noise, thunks or electrical. In their most recent...

HV Battery replaced and now the Drive Unit! (out of warranty)

(Another HV battery replacement thread) My 2013 Model S was working just fine, then suddenly started throwing error codes. I let it sit for about 5 days looking for options. Ultimately I decided to take it in before my appointment to ask for them to help with diagnosing the messages or...

Sell 2014 Model S before 8 Year warranty expires?

His website states that they only work on the 85 battery not 60s, their module count and cell counts in the modules are different. Some local salvage yards I called said the 60kwhr packs are rare to see so either there aren't many that where sold or not many that have been salvaged. As for a...

Sell 2014 Model S before 8 Year warranty expires?

There where some comments about the refurbished battery having a long warranty, that is not the case at least if you are paying for it after your warranty has expired. I was told yesterday, because I am asking for very specific details, that the warranty is 1yr on a part they install...

I have a May 2013 P40 and my HV battery just failed and I have to say that because my 40 had a 60 battery in it but was software limited I felt great about charging it to 100% of what the system allowed because that had a nice built in 30% margin. So it seems that short of perhaps preventing...

MCU fails for the second time

Is this a systemic problem? The MCU on my Model S from May 2013 also just failed. The screen would light up then go out and the touch screen failed constantly. Gen 2 charger ground faults

Sorry to call the wall adapter thing a charger, I dumbed my question down to much. I meant the “mobile connector”. So it seems a few others are seeing the frequent faults. I should probably contact Tesla and see what they say considering the gen 1 has never faulted on the same outlet over 5 years.

Poll on 40KW battery actual rated range vs age(miles) of car

    Energy accounting

I fell behind on this thread, but I see the photo. I am always watching the "total energy" column because I am not trying to calculate driving efficiency but total energy consumed by the car. I think it was stated by others that if you take a small number of watt hours and divide by a number...

I have never seen this "spike" in power when I first start to drive. I looked on the trip summary and the power graph. I even checked again today because my firmware updated last night. Dual 120V to NEMA 14-50 adapter

Wow, I am surprised that the Quick220 is actually UL listed, has some safety interlocks (relay) and a double pole breaker. This is very different then the suggestion earlier about making your own. Of course 120V outlets are typically shared circuits so it is hard to know how many amps you might...

Dual 120V to NEMA 14-50 adapter

A 240V outlet is protected by a double pole breaker where both poles trip together. If you try to cheat and use individual single pole breakers by bridging between two 120V outlets you can create various safety problems. For example, you trip one breaker but the other is still closed. Now your...

    Energy lost when charging?

I am attempting to measure this very thing but it isn't easy. If you really want to know the cost you need a power meter on the outlet that the car charges from, don't trust the power reported by the trip stats in the car.

I am not missing anything. My post clearly talks about this under vehicle losses, cooling pumps, fans all add up. You might consider charging slower

The roadster and the Model S do not behave the same. Also, you can not lump 120V charging in with 240V charging because that is going take a huge hit since the incoming voltage is too low and most likely gets doubled during rectification to DC which is not efficient. I am speculating but this...

I am glad to see that some are on board already with these ideas.
