Saw my first Polestar on the road

I haven't spent enough time in a Model 3 to really compare but I've been really happy with the seats in our Model X. The seats in the Polestar are great. My guess is they borrowed a lot of the design from Volvo, which arguably have some of the best seats in the business. But I always think...

Help saving a friend from buying a Porsche Taycan in Raleigh, NC

Having owned both a Tesla and a Taycan, the Tesla is the better EV, the Taycan is the better car. The Taycan will be much more enjoyable as a daily driver. It's just a nicer car all around. But if he is seriously driving long distances all the time, then the charging network (not the range)...

Saw my first Polestar on the road

To be honest I have yet to personally experience Polestar service. I've only dealt with ordering and delivery. Not sure how things are handled overseas, but in the US like I said many have had Polestar come to their house or work if it was something minor. Only a couple I've seen who actually...

Saw my first Polestar on the road

In my opinion Tesla and Polestar have the best UI in the industry. They are obviously different approaches, but the Polestar is the first that I've seen from a more traditional automaker (Polestar being a spin off of Volvo) that competes with Tesla. They use Google for their operating system...

Saw my first Polestar on the road

I don't think this is really an issue with Polestar. They share a lot of parts with Volvo. They offer at home repairs for basic issues, otherwise they bring the vehicle to a Volvo dealership. There is a member on the Polestar forum from the Denver area that was rear ended in his Polestar. No...

Saw my first Polestar on the road

On the highway it's nearly as good as basic autopilot. I haven't tried it in a construction zone or around sharper curves, but it handles typical sweeping highway curves, stop and go traffic, and lane centering really well. It's also easy to use.

Saw my first Polestar on the road

Polestar 2. They have a showroom in Denver where you can test drive cars. I'm paying about $600 a month, for a 36 month lease, $1500 down, 10k miles per year for a fully loaded model.

Saw my first Polestar on the road

We looked at an ID.4, Mach-E, Model Y, and the Polestar. We wanted a hatch back and so the Model 3 wasn't considered. After considering prices, options, specs, and availability it came down to the Model Y and Polestar. I liked the handling of the Polestar a little more, it was 6 months+ for the...

Saw my first Polestar on the road

I started leasing a Polestar in October and so did my father. They are really nice cars with great handling. Acceleration is between a Model 3 LR and the performance (based on Car and Driver testing) but in my opinion it feels higher quality. The range isn’t as good, but it’s a legitimate low...

Extremely Disappointed With Model S Range When Driving on the Highway at 35F

On a long road trip, I prefer to stop every 3-4 hours. So stopping every 200-250 miles to charge isn't a big deal. But there are several routes I take that have 300+ miles would be nice. For example we regularly go skiing during the winter and it's 250 miles round trip. 125 miles each...

Porsche Whistleblower: “60% of all delivered Taycan have battery issues“

I have a Taycan Turbo S and I'm a regular on the Taycan forum. Only two major issues have occurred with the Taycan that owners are aware of. One had to do with the 12V battery dying which was fixed with a software update. The second was a software issues that caused the vehicle to believe there...

    A yoke or a joke?

For the life of me I don't understand why they don't simply make it an option. It's completely reasonable for people to want a more traditional steering wheel. Especially for the Model S LR.

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

I took my Taycan on a 1200 mile road rally through Colorado last year with a bunch of Ferraris. I could crush them in a straight line, but they would destroy me on a road course. None of this really mattered in the mountains. It's not like you push the car at 9/10s with a 1000 foot drop off...

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

Hopefully as Model 3/Y production moves out of Fremont, they will add more customization to the S and X. If not, Tesla needs to work with a third party to produce bespoke cars. I know Unplugged Performance is trying to do this, but their costs are way too high. Their Model S Apex with lots of...

    Nurburgring and Plaid

There are a couple of reports from individuals taking the Plaid to the track. It only takes a couple of laps for the brake temp warning light to come on. The Nurburgring takes a serious toll on brakes. It would be almost dangerous to push the car hard enough for a record lap time knowing the...

Not with the current brakes. They will need a "track pack" or some upgrade to run the ring. Most likely carbon ceramic brakes.

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

Agreed. Porsche goes way over the top on options. BMW for example does have some odd options as well, but the color, interior, and wheel choices are very nice. I also like the option of upgraded sport seats and other changes like an M package or S-line (Audi) which adds alcantara, different...

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

Eventually the competition will catch up to Tesla. Tesla will continue to have its unique set of features and design styles, which is a positive thing. But go look at cars in the $90k price range. They have a dozen exterior and interior color options, multiple interior trim and stitching...

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

How an EV performs in an arbitrary race in Japan, or the 1/4 mile trap speed, is irrelevant to most people looking to buy a $90k+ car. People paying this kind of money expect quality fit and finish, materials, and luxury options. The Model S can continue to be the American muscle car of the...

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

Another Tesla to Taycan convert. Our 2018 Model X 100D was a great EV, but a poorly built car. For $115k it had really poor build quality and rattles. The doors and weather striping were a disaster. After a couple of long road trips, and coming no where near the rated mileage, or the charging...

    Prospective Buyer of Model S

If service is a concern, why not start with a Model 3 or Model Y. They are cheaper, have been in production longer and will most likely have less issues. Buying a first year product from Tesla is a roll of the dice. If this is also your first EV, the Model 3/Y will be a great introduction. It's...

Tesla Wins Exhibition Section of 2021 Pikes Peak Race

None of the cars running up pikes peak are stock. They all have modified suspension, aero, brakes, etc. All weigh a lot less than their factory equivalent just based on the fact they are required to have completely stripped interiors. I would argue the closest car running this weekend to the...

Tesla Wins Exhibition Section of 2021 Pikes Peak Race

The Exhibition class is for vehicles that don't meet the requirements of the other classes. Arguably the closest to production vehicles is the Time Attack 1 class. Time attack 1 is for production vehicles with restrictions on what can be modified. Exhibition Class: "specifically to "demonstrate...

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

On the flip side many of the negative ratings are related to the CHAdeMO chargers. They seem to be a lot less reliable. Possibly because they typically have only one per site, and maybe haven't tested them as much considering it's a dying standard. If you look through the PlugShare checkins most...

Remember when all the pilots here were like FINALLY A YOKE!

This ^^^^^ Why is the yoke better than a round steering wheel? What is the advantage to having two turn signal buttons on the same side on the face of a steering wheel versus a stalk? I don't want every car manufacturer to change the way turn signals work so I have to relearn it every time I...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

Compared to the previous Model S Performance, is the Plaid just more power (through a tri-imotor setup) with the updated interior? I had assumed this was the case and the Plaid+ got all of the goodies like upgraded brakes, wider body, aero, suspension, etc. It will be kinda disappointing if the...

Summary from Edmunds: According to EPA range estimates, the Tesla Model Y trounces the Porsche Taycan — but the EPA tests in a lab. Do the estimates hold up in the real world? FSD Beta Videos (and questions for FSD Beta drivers)

A left turn across traffic that doesn't stop is going to be one of the most dangerous and difficult situations for FSD. It's a common situation that people will run into pulling out of neighborhood side streets onto busy main streets. Combined with higher speeds (>45mph) and multiple lanes of...

    Electrify America Strands Motorists

I was comparing Tesla V3 versus EA 350kW stations. That is all. I'm pretty sure everyone on here is aware of Tesla's supercharger network coverage. Here is their latest if that makes you feel better.

    Electrify America Strands Motorists

I agree on the EA comment. I am concerned about the future of EA. Hopefully with enough demand (and possibly support from other automakers) they will be able to survive. I will add that Chargepoint seems to do quite well and I've had success using their chargers recently. Most of the time they...

    Electrify America Strands Motorists

There is no doubt Tesla has way more locations and number of charging stalls. I'm just trying to point out the EA is growing quick and starting off with 350kW chargers. They have accomplished a lot in 18 months. I'm also a bit surprised how slow Tesla has been to upgrade to V3 superchargers. A...

    Porsche Taycan

No one needs a Taycan. It is beyond excess. You have to truly love the driving experience. By all means for the money, any Tesla is a great option. I'm a big cyclist and I always use the road bike analogy. The improvements in road bikes are steep until you get to the $2,000 price point. Beyond...

FSD $2k price increase Monday 10/26

Those are some good examples. I can see a lot of value in that for many people, not so much for me personally. I guess my biggest problem is more around paying $10k on a car today that may never see that level of automation during your ownership. I agree FSD will get to that point in the future...

FSD $2k price increase Monday 10/26

Serious question. The FSD beta videos look really impressive. I understand the benefit for Uber like taxis, but for the average person is FSD really worth $10K? I love my advanced autopilot on road trips and in traffic jams, but even then the $5k price I paid for it seems steep. Not sure I...

    GMC Hummer Debut 2020-10-20

My guess is they are using a 400V architecture (I read that somewhere in the description) but the battery layout might be setup as two 400V systems. If they are roughly 100kWh per battery pack (200kWh combined) then maybe it splits the 350kW (800V at 437amps) incoming DC power and essentially...

    Porsche Taycan

Overall I'm really happy. I gave up my 911's because I now have three kids and I was hardly driving them. Combine that with my love of EV's and wanting to do my part in regards to CO2 emissions, this perfectly fits the bill. We are now 100% electric with a PV array on our roof. I plan on...

    Porsche Taycan

We bought a Taycan Turbo S a couple of weeks ago. It's an absolutely amazing car. I've had 6 previous Porsches, mostly 911's and one Panamera, and it's remarkable how much it feels like a 911 in terms of driver position and handling. It's obviously way heavier when pushed to the limits, but it...

    GMC Hummer Debut 2020-10-20

I paid $116k for my Model X 100D two years ago. A fully loaded 5-seater performance Model X today costs around $110k-$116k. The Hummer has similar range, and acceleration and arguably an equal or nicer interior (way nicer than the Cybertruck). It also has way more off-road tech (crab walk, 6in...

Anyone thinking about an VW ID.4 Instead?

Bjorn's 120km/hr test are equal to 74.4mph which is a little higher than you were assuming. Also the range for the Model Y at 70mph is not equivalent. But regardless, yes the Model Y will probably go further. Yes Tesla has better charging infrastructure for the moment. But the same arguments you...

Anyone thinking about an VW ID.4 Instead?

Bjorn performed charging and efficiency tests on the ID.3 with really good results. Odds are the ID.4 will be similar. Our Etron gets the same efficiency as our Model X. As a result I get about 210 miles of range in the Etron on highway road trips and about 235 miles in the X. Etron crushes the...

Why is Audi E-Tron selling so well in Norway?

I think very few people buy them. I leased one for 24 months when they first came out. $180/month with almost nothing down. It was honestly a lot of fun to drive. They really are like a go kart. If you live in the city and have a second car, they would be pretty nice. So small and easy to park...
