    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

Just posted at teslarati.com. Tesla Model 3 Performance destroys Porsche 911 GT3 in Autocross gauntlet A 15 year old driving the GT3? WTF.

Mafpolo, my 'yes!!!' was to bringing back silver. I love the gray but it shows dirt quickly and badly. I really don't find anything wrong with the paint job on my M3P but I'm not sure I would notice anyway. I really never noticed the paint work on my Porsches. I just loved the silver color...

I just found this rather interesting Porsche/Tesla comparison thread in the Roadster 2020+ section: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/porsche-tacan-turbo-vs-model-3-vs-roadster.188852/ TimothyHW3 From Germany has posted, in a very well produced 49 minute video, a highly detailed and...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

If I ever went back to an ICE car, and I just don't see it at this point, it would be the 992 Turbo or Turbo S. I had four C4S in succession over 16 years without a day of regret. I always lusted after the Turbo, but just couldn't justify the cost. On the other hand......the new Roadster could...

Meanwhile, the early reviews of the new 911 Turbo S are ecstatic: https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2021-porsche-911-turbo-s-first-drive-review/ I’m sure deservedly so. At close to 4x the cost of an M3P.

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I had my first malfunction yesterday: the audio was down completely. When I got to my destination, I grabbed my iPhone and went online. Suggestions were: it may correct itself when you return to the car or manually reboot. I returned to the car sometime later. After a few seconds it rebooted...

I don’t disagree 997at, but I really don’t miss the truly wonderful 911 seats and I think there is one reason only: I don’t have an opportunity to compare on a daily basis. If I could I’m sure I would! It’s probably a blessing that I don’t get the chance to remind myself how wonderful 911 seats...

jbcarioka, one has the pleasure to meet some remarkable people on these message boards to be sure! All my flying has been entirely by others! 100K+ a year safely (for everyone) outside the cockpit.

Knightshade, I had actually removed the post but you beat me to the punch. A bit of a rabbit hole of my own construction! What I read in Gentex's annual report is that they manufacture the unit themselves and sell to most all auto manufacturers. They had bought the product line and any related...

You got me at the Lear jet, jbcarioca! I just watched the Smithsonian channel Air Disasters episode on Payne Stewart. I didn't realize just how absolutely bad ass the Lear jet was! Did you pilot it yourself?

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

SeaNile, driving style they are pretty much the same, I think. Same chassis. Just a little more weight and a little higher drag coefficient maybe. A few more subtle, evolutionary differences. But if the Y suits your lifestyle and you choose the MYP it will be little different to the M3P. Enjoy!

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

Knightshade, the HomeLink module is manufactured, not licensed, by Gentex, according their annual report. They sell to virtually every auto manufacturer. They do have extensive patent protection and their profit margin so seem very healthy for an automotive component supplier, but I'd be...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

Beautifully written and so well said, Needsdecaf! I only get to have one car at a time having only two garage spaces and one wife! But if I didn't and I hadn't leased my 991.2 C4S, I would certainly have kept it at least for a while and eased out of it or maybe not. My observations were and...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I think its fast disappearing pricing model. It has worked well for Porsche for sure, but markets change. The ritual of customizing your car: the fact that most of their cars are custom ordered and their custom manufacture is obviously highly refined, though no doubt extremely costly too. There...

You are very observant. Re accent, I'm told I still have quite a strong English accent but when I'm across the pond I think my accent is probably considered 'mid-Atlantic': the accent some English radio DJs used in the 60's when it was much cooler to sound American! (Mind you, the most famous of...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

My suggestion: try an M3P. I bought mine. Depreciation is so low that if I decided to trade it in after a short while I would still be way ahead compared with my prior lease payments. But there's no going back! Re the Roadster, I'm frankly in the same boat, but there's no reason to wait! PS: Im...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I think I bought (actually leased) 911s for the same reasons as many. I found and find it an intoxicatingly beautiful car without being ostentatious and I thoroughly enjoyed driving one for sixteen years. I only ever had one car at a time and I drove my 911 every day. It was practical enough for...

Hello, Brock! Tesla Motor Club was my first port of call! I just wanted to share my initial thoughts on the transition from P to T and figured this the best forum to do so.

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

Good to know, wgood33! I don’t have anywhere close where I would risk exceeding 110 unfortunately. Even with my trusty Valentine. Certainly really stable below. My last Porsche had the very same Michelin Pilot Sport summers and Pirelli SotoZero winters as the MP3, just wider. Fantastic tires, both.

So, today I received in the mail likely my last freebee copy of the amazing car porn magazine: Porsche's Christophus. Issue 394. Cover story: 'Icon - Traveling with the 911 Turbo through space and time'. The cover photo is of the sensuous butt of the new Turbo S (992). Its an exquisitely printed...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I would say reasonably close at highway speeds. Probably less so on a track. But a very different experience. Less drama in an M3P and less emotion too, though the eerily quiet, astonishingly linear acceleration is pretty addictive!
  28. P

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I’m jealous! I have to imagine that Tesla wouldn’t enable 162 mph max speed if there was any concern for stability even at that velocity.
  29. P

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I would concur with neezer. Certainly up to 100-105 mph. I haven’t gone faster myself. With 20”/Michelin 4Ss. Same summers/winters as my 991.2 911 C4S, just a bit narrower.

Just FYI, in NJ the M3P with midnight silver upcharge is just under $60,000 delivered. No tax or even registration on EV's, it seems.

    Wireless charging pad question

I have the Tesla charger with the same iPhone 11 Pro Max with the regular Apple leather case. No problem. Having tried both the leather and the silicon versions I prefer the leather. You might want to try it. Thin, light, adequate protection. Works fine with the Tesla wireless charger.

BTW, I mentioned sex appeal as an attribute of the 911. For anyone considering a 911 over a Tesla 3 Performance, just for the record, I never got noticed, let alone propositioned, let alone laid! Over 16 years. Beyond work, mostly in Manhattan, driving and parking my sexy, silver 911. And for...

Thanks for reading! It's my first post. My first week or so with a Tesla. I'm in heaven. I'm just not able to drive as much as I'd like since we are now in lockdown-lite!

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

Honestly, I'm not comfortable with a larger car. It's why I never got a Panamera. Before my run of 911s I had an M5 (E39). Pre-Bangle. And everything I've read suggests that the 3 is the best handling Tesla.

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I have noticed that Tesla drivers (we have a great many in my area) tend to drive rather slowly (as in strictly within the speed limit) but considerately, in the right lane. Corvettes too, I've noticed. While yahoos in jacked up trucks always seem to drive in the left lane. At least in NJ. I'm...

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I never even mentioned the almost total lack of maintenance. They say one should replace the brake fluid every 2-4 years. I don't even use the brake. And from my POV, I'm sure the panel gaps on a Porsche are more perfectly aligned, but that never turned me on and I have seen nothing...

Guilty as charged! But at least now I do it in a quiet and understated way. Much less provocative. Not showing them a hot Germanic booty! Just a modest sedan.

    Tesla 3 Performance v. Porsche 911 4S

I have driven a silver 911 C4S for 16 years, models: 997.1, 997.2, 991.1, 991.2 and two weeks ago I switched to a Tesla 3 Performance. I had wondered what to expect but couldn't find any posts anywhere on making the change; only YouTube 911/Tesla 3P drag race videos! So, for anyone considering...
